Mold is just inside the Welsh border in the county of Flintshire. We are an English-medium school, meaning that all courses and school business is conducted in English, but all students study the Welsh language as part of their curriculum and take the equivalent of a short-course GCSE qualification. The school is the largest in Flintshire and shares the campus with Mold Sports Centre which gives our students access to very good sporting facilities. There is also a specialist Hearing Support Centre attached to the school. Pastoral Structure of the School There are twelve ‘feeder’ primary schools and the vast majority of students in these are automatically allocated places on the basis of their home postcode being nearer to the Alun School than any other high school. These students account for up to three-quarters of the places each year. After this students are admitted under specific criteria until the standard number is reached. On entering the school, each student is assigned to one of four Houses – Clwyd, Dyfed, Gwent and Powys. A variety of information, including family connections, is taken into consideration when making allocations to Houses.

I am a Deputy Lieutenant to the Clwyd Lieutenancy and a past Chairman of the North Wales CBI which I represented on the North Wales Economic Forum. I am also a member of the Bank of England Advisory Panel for North Wales, and also represent Welsh ports and industrial interests on the Dee estuary relating to the Water Framework Directive. I have more than 50 years experience in the shipping and ports industries. Regulatory Regime Ports is a reserved matter and current U.K. policy is contained in the document “Modern Ports” – a U.K. Policy – Nov. 2000. The Welsh Assembly Government ‘s parallel policies on ports are contained mainly in two policy documents: “The Wales Freight Strategy” - May 2008 and “Wales Transport Strategy” - April 2008. Neither of the Welsh documents contain what could be regarded as firm policies for Welsh port development, indeed the Transport Strategy document makes no more than a passing reference to ports and sea transport. The Wales Freight Strategy document provides an overview of the Welsh ports sector and contains 10 policy statements. However, scrutiny of the policy statements shows they are little more than intentions to “continue to review” and to “continue to monitor” various strategies for potential port development. I am therefore not convinced that the Welsh Assembly Government fully appreciates the importance of ports to the Welsh economy, hence its lack of firm policies which the industry can rely upon when considering development plans.

REPORT FROM ALED DAVIES, CEMETERY SUB-CONTRACTOR Mr Aled Davies of Aled Davies Agricultural Contracting was present at the meeting. He reported that all was going well with the Cemetery except for some issues with litter. A lot of empty alcohol bottles have been found. These are being cleared away and put in recycling. It was commented on that people are going to the Cemetery after dark. Mr Davies went on to report that there are a couple of loose headstones in plot 1. Also, it is noticeable that the stonemasons are not fitting the headstones in a straight line. Councillors expressed concern at the loose headstones and the Clerk stated that she would investigate. It was pointed out that an enquiry had been made to Blackwell’s Stonemasons to come to the Cemetery in an attempt to resolve the issue of headstones not being lined up. That this remains an issue with stonemasons is disappointing.

    PEN-Y-FFORDD COMMUNITY COUNCIL Minutes of the Meeting held in the War Memorial Institute on Wednesday 8th May 2019 Present: Councillors Mr A Wight (Chairman), Mr R Bestwick (Vice Chairman) Mr J Priddin, Mr D Williams, Ms C Hinds, Mrs E Davies, Mr D Walker, Mr R Wakelam, Mrs P Ransome, Mr P Blackman, Mr M Rothero and Mr A Bakewell (Youth Representative) Absent: Cllr M Jones In attendance: Mrs S Hughes, Clerk & RFO to the Council Ms Jessica Satchwell 10. Apologies Apologies were received from Councillor Dr J Smith-Bellis. 11. Visitors i. PCSO Andrea Ellis was unable to attend the meeting but provided the Council with an updated report: Anti-Social Behaviour Issues/Trends: - There has been 1 report of ASB whereby youths have been on the grounds of Penyffordd junior school. No damage has been caused. For awareness and patrols will be conducted. Crime Issues/Trends - There have been 2 reports of thefts from 2 addresses in Berwyn Avenue area whereby offenders have taken items from the rear garden and shed. ii. Jessica Satchwell informed the council that she has intended to attend the meeting to discuss with the council fundraising to purchase a defibrillator for Dobshill after setting up a Just Giving Page, however, she was pleased to advise that after contacting Wates of the new Dobshill development they have agreed to fund the defibrillator. She asked the council to consider the installation and most suitable for it to be installed with options of the garage or pet shop. Cllr Williams suggested a good location would be by the bus stop and new council noticeboard on Chester Road.
