Pan-Celtic songcontest coniesback to Carlow By Clare Minnock

CARLOVIANS looking to represent Ireland in the Pan Celtic national song contest need to get their entries in before the end of the month. The deadline for entries, which must be as Gaeilge and newly composed, is 5pm on Friday 31 January. All genres of music, from tradition, to pop, to country and more are eligible. The competition, which proved a great success in Carlow town during the Pan Celtic festivals in 2012 and 2013, will return to the Seven Oaks Hotel, despite the fact that Carlow's reign as hosts is over. This year's Pan Celtic festival will take place in Derry from 22-27 April, but not before the Irish entry for the song contest is chosen at a gala national song contest, sponsored by IMRO and Gael Linn, on Saturday 8 March. The top prize is €1,000 and the winning song will go on to represent Ireland in the international song cost at the Derry festival. A special, separate section for entrants under the age of 17 is being held on 8 March also, with a prize of €200 and a trophy for the winning song. Interested artists can apply by sending their songs on CD to the Pan Celtic Song Contest 2014, Glor Cheatharlach, College Street, Carlow by 5pm on Friday 31 January. -7- Galway Independent Circulation: 57506 Friday, 27 December 2013 Area of Clip: 10100mm² Page: 52 Page 1 of 1
