ALL HIKERS PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE USING A NEW HIKE RATINGS SYSTEM. PLEASE SEE THE NOTES ABOVE THIS SCHEDULE. EVERY MONDAY NIGHT CULHAM TRAIL MISSISSAUGA 1.5 - 2 hrs Moderate to fast pace. Meet at Riverwood Visual Arts Centre in Mississauga. The centre is located just north of Burnhamthorpe Rd. between Mississauga Rd and Creditview Rd on Riverwood Park Lane. EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT – Walk for Health and Fun (1.5hrs at a Brisk Pace) Climb the steps and walk the streets and trails of West Hamilton. Meet at 7:10 pm. at the corner of Mohawk and Upper Paradise in the Westcliffe Mall parking lot (near Food Basics). Come along for a brisk, aerobic walk. Hike is cancelled if there is heavy rain. Sat. Mar. 22 - Rail trail Glen Morris Towards Paris and Back - 8 to 14 km. If conditions permit, this will be a CROSS COUNTRY SKI excursion. If there is not enough snow, we will hike it. Hwy 24 south through Simcoe to Woodhouse Ave. to Memorial Park, map and instruction on Greg Vincent’s Hiking Site. This trail in Carolinian Canada is one of Ontario’s best following the Lynn River to Lake Erie. We will be on the lookout for signs of Spring as we hike to Port Dover and return to Simcoe. Sun. Apr. 6 - Dundas Valley Loop - 10 km. Meet for 9:30 am. start at the Metro on Governor's Road (by Ogilivie.) We will enter the Dundas Valley via Warren Park and hike the Spring Creek Trail to the Conservation area trail head. On our return we will hike the rail trail to Sanctuary Park, linking up with the Spring Creek Trail again. Hiking boots, icers? Bring water and snack. Medium pace and moderate terrain. Sat. April 12 - Rattlesnake - Crawford Lake Loop (~14km) Meet at Rattlesnake Point Conservation area, upper parking lot at 9:30 am (parking fee applies). We will hike a loop to Crawford Lake Conservation area and back utilizing main trail and numerous side trails. Bring water and lunch as we will stop for a quick break to eat. Sun. Apr. 13 - STEPS, STEPS, STEPS, STEPS! - 3 to 4 hrs. Meet at 9:00 am. at the top of the Chedoke Stairs on Scenic Drive at Upper Paradise on the West Mountain. We will carpool to the parking lot near and hike back. We will do all 7 sets of escarpment stairs, including the Kenilworth stairs and Uli’s stairs. In between the sets of stairs we will hike parts of the Bruce Trail and the Rail Trails. Hike Cancelled, if there is heavy rain. Brisk Pace and Strenuous Terrain. Directions: From Garth Street take Scenic Drive west to Upper Paradise. The parking lot is on your right (across from the start of Upper Paradise) If there is no room in the parking lot, you can park on the street. From Highway 6 or Guelph Line, follow Campbellville Road to Milburough Line and then go north for 1 km. to park entrance. Halton Conservation Area pass or entrance fee applies. A family hike, children welcome, leave the dog at home. We walk the trails of Schneider’s Farm, Waterloo’s best kept secret, on the Waterloo moraine, a gift to Waterloo from the last ice age. May 3 - Hilton Falls & Speyside Section Toronto Section - 23 km. Using trail maps 11 & 12, and meeting at 9:00 am. we will hike at a medium pace over variable terrain on a “Favourite Loop” hike, a distance of 23 km. This hike will take in the Hilton Falls Side Trail and part of the Main Trail, accessing via the Al Shaw Side Trail. Meet 9:00 am. at the Pear Tree parking lot, km 11.2 in Speyside. To get there, exit the 401 at Milton and take H’way 25 north to Speyside, turn left on 15th Side road, and the parking lot is 300 metres along on the left hand side. Mon. May 5 - Tew’s Falls / Webster’s Falls Evening Walk in the Spring - 1.5 to 2 hrs. Meet at 7:00 pm. at the Greensville School parking lot, located on Harvest Road in Greensville. We will hike various trails in the area, including a portion of the Bruce Trail past Tew’s Falls, Dundas Peak, and Webster’s Falls. Come and see the waterfalls when the water flow is still high! Sun. May 11 - Hamilton’s Super Bowls - 10 km. Meet at 10:00 am. at the 4-Ice Centre, located on Mountain Brow, between Limeridge and Mohawk Roads in Hamilton. We will car shuffle to the Devil’s Punchbowl and hike back, visiting four of Hamilton’s bowl waterfalls on the way. Bring lunch and water, bug spray, sun block. Hiking boots recommended. Sun. May 11 - Glen Morris to Paris Rail Trail - 20 km. Meet for a 9:30 am departure from the Rail Trail parking in Glen Morris (a very small town), map and directions on Greg Vincent’s Hiking Site. This is it, my favourite Rail Trail! We meet in Glen Morris and walk beside the Grand River in Carolinian Canada to the outskirts of Paris and retrace our steps to Glen Morris. Tues. May 13 - Tiffany’s Falls / Sherman’s Falls Evening Walk in the Spring - 1.5 to 2 hrs. Meet at 7:00 pm. at the parking lot at Tiffany Falls on Wilson (old Highway 2). We will hike various trails in the area, including a portion of the Bruce Trail past Tiffany’s Falls and Sherman’s Falls and . Come and see the waterfalls when the water flow is still high! A “Favourite Loop” this hike takes in the Main Trail and the Hockley Heights Side Trail, which contain many steep and relentless hills. Mon. May 19 - Bluebell Walk/Sixteen Mile Creek Valley, Oakville/Walk for Wildlife - +/- 11 km. This hike is being done in conjunction with the Canadian Wildlife Federation as part the federation’s program of walks encouraging the importance of nature in our lives. Meet for a 10:00 am. start in the parking lot at the end of Old Upper Middle Road in Oakville. We will do a circular walk of the valley to see the Bluebells as well as other wildflowers. Continue south for another 2 km. from the traffic light in the village until you reach Kirk Rd. Turn right on Kirk Rd. and go about 2 km. to Harrison Rd. Turn left on Harrison and go about 1 km. to the entrance of Binbrook Conservation Area on your right. Where will we be hiking? I have a vague clue, but, for sure, our pub stop will be at the Bin in Binbrook. Rebels Without a Clue # 11 Tues. May 13 - Meet in the parking lot of the Lion’s Club Outdoor Pool in Grimsby. Take the QEW eastbound from Hamilton to the Christie St. exit in Grimsby. Turn right on Christie and go to Elm St. at the second traffic light. Turn right on Elm and drive across the bridge over Forty Mile Creek. Immediately after the bridge turn right into the parking lot. This is a new loop walk, which means I do have a clue about the route we’ll be taking. After the hike, we’ll go to the Judge and Jester in downtown Grimsby. Rebels Without a Clue # 12, Tues. May 20 - Meet in the Metro parking lot on Governor’s Rd. one block west of the corner of Osler Dr. and Governor’s Rd. in Dundas. As usual, I don’t have a clue about where we’ll be walking. May 27 - Meet in the parking lot under the hydro towers at the west end of Scenic Drive on Hamilton’s west mountain. This parking lot is located at the edge of the escarpment where the Chedoke Radial Trail reaches the top of the escarpment. It is also next to the east entrance to Iroquoia Heights Conservation Area. (See Km 40.6 of Map 8 in Edition 27 of The Bruce Trail Reference.) Where will be walk? Haven’t got a clue, but we’ll doin’ a pub stop at Montana’s in the Meadowlands.

Wed. May 7 - Shell Park - 10km. Meet at Shell Park on Lakeshore Rd.. We will hike through the Trillium filled woods and then along the creek into Bronte beach and return. Leisurely - Easy.

Wed. May 14 - Lowville - 10km. Meet at the parking lot in Lowville. We will hike beautiful "River and Ruin Trail". The striking Ostrich ferns should be in appearance and the creek flowing fast. Leisurely - Moderate.

Wednesday May 15th. Kilbride 9k. Meet at the rear of the Library/School, in Kilbride. Take Brant St. north to Kilbride, turn right at the first stop sign, left at the next one. We will hike out to the Calcium Pits and back. This is a very diverse area, tree plantations, stone walls and of course the Calcium Pits. Leisurely - Moderate.

Wed. May 28 - Lynn Valley Trail - 10 km. Meet at the Tim Horton`s Parking lot in Port Dover . We will carpool to Simcoe and hike back along the Lynn Valley Trail, a beautiful trail that follows the river. Perhaps a Perch dinner after. Leisurely - Easy.

After the winter months it’s great to get on the trails and enjoy all those little critters and plants that have been previously hiding under the snow. However, the trails can have lots of other surprises in spring (ice, mud, washouts, etc.) so please bring proper footwear. Icers and hiking sticks may still be required. Due to extremely limited parking at hike start (5 cars max) we will car pool to the start on 4th Line east of Guelph Line. A loop hike will be done in the north area of the Agreement Forest. Wed. Mar. 26 Humber Trails Forest & Wildlife Reserve. +/- 7 km. Meet for a 10:00 am. start. Description: A gentle stroll along the beaver active trails bordering the winding E. Humber River for about 7 kms. Hopefully the debris from the ice storm will have been removed by volunteers. A few slopes up banks but no challenging hills. Bring lunch, water; Poles/icers may be helpful. Directions: From King Road (County Road 11) drive S. on Mill Creek Gravel Road (4.7 kms west of Hwy 400 and 2.6 kms east of Hwy 27, Nobleton), for about 3/4km to the parking area on the west side, just before the bridge over the E. Thurs. Apr. 10 - Monarch-Spring Creek Trail Loop - +/- 11 km. Meet for a 10:00 am. start at the Sanctuary Drive parking lot for Sanctuary Park in Dundas. You can access Sanctuary Drive from Pleasant Avenue. We will do a loop hike following the Spring Creek Trail to the Dundas Valley CA Trail Centre where we will break for a snack. We will carpool to Borer’s Falls on Rock Chapel Road parking at the Royal Botanical Gardens parking lot (fee payment or passes required). Great views to begin, then walks through the woods. Take the 403 to Brantford. turn left on Wayne Gretzky Parkway Follow to Colborne St and turn left. Turn right at Locks Rd. Locks Road turns into Mohawk St. The first street on the right is Greenwich.
