"The Stage" arriva dopo l'album "Hail To The King" del 2013, disco che è entrato al #1 posto della Billboard200. "The Stage" è stato coprodotto dalla band insieme a Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool) ed è un disco molto ambizioso fatto da 11 tracce [email protected] "Panoramiche" tenute insieme da una intelligenza artificiale che funge SPETTACOLINEWS.IT da tema portante. Ispirati dalla scrittura di Carl Segan e Elon Musk, l'album è il primo disco "Tematico" del gruppo. Mentre il termine "AI" (Intelligenza artificiale) rimanda ad una idea di robot e film fantasy, la band vira verso un racconto di fantascienza. La band racconta di un futuro dove la tecnologia si espande e cosa questo significherà, nel bene e nel male per il futuro. A chiudere il disco un'epica traccia di 15 minuti, "Exist", che contiene una breve apparizione audio dell'astrofisico Neil deGrasse Tyson. Un paio di settimane fa la band ha pubblicato un video per la title track "THE STAGE" diretto da Chris Hopewell (Radiohead, The Killers), il clip ha già ottenuto più di 6 milioni di views. Questo album segna anche la prima collaborazione con il batterista Brooks Wackerman, noto per il suo lavoro con i Bad Religion e la cui discografia include anche album con Tenacious D e Suicidal Tendencies.
