SRI-0117-228 2 FINAL PROGRAM Society for Reproductive Investigation 64th Annual Scientific Meeting MARCH 15-18, 2017 ORLANDO, FL Message from SRI President Welcome Dear Colleagues: Welcome to the 64th Annual Meeting of the Society for Reproductive Investigation, March 15 - 18, 2017 in Orlando, FL. The theme of the 2017 meeting, “D2D: Data to Discovery,” was chosen to highlight new basic, translational and clinical approaches and opportunities for harnessing the power of scientific data to promote knowledge in reproductive health and medicine. Sam Mesiano, PhD, as Program Director, has created an excellent program, which includes three Presidential Distinguished Lecturers, one trainee plenary session, 24 concurrent oral sessions, 12 mini-symposia and two special symposia. In addition to the scientific sessions, we have also planned complementary events that advance the mission of SRI. The first is Connection Corners, an annual event that engages trainees with the more experienced members of the Society. We will also hold three lunch sessions – on Wednesday, we will hold a Diversity Career Development Forum; on Thursday, the topic will be Systems Biology in Pregnancy Health and Research; on Friday, the focus will be Precision Medicine and Women’s Health. Each of our three Presidential Distinguished Lectures represents a different aspect of our D2D theme. The Thursday Presidential lecturer is Suchi Saria, PhD, from the Department of Computational Sciences at Johns Hopkins University. Dr Saria is an expert in computational biology and machine learning. She applies her unique knowledge to computational health informatics and predictive modeling in healthcare. The Friday Presidential lecturer is Stephen Quake, PhD, Lee Otterson Professor in the School of Engineering and Professor of Bioengineering, Applied Physics and Physics at Stanford University. Dr Quake’s recent inventions in the area of prenatal genomics have transformed the field. He will share his innovative research and provide visionary comments about the future of blood based-genomic testing. David Haig, PhD, George Putnam Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University, will give the Saturday Presidential lecture. Dr. Haig will talk about his novel and provocative data synthesis approaches to understanding maternal-fetal conflict. The 2017 annual meeting will be held in Orlando, FL, at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek. The science will be stimulating, the camaraderie will be engaging, and the warm sun of Florida will be shining. On behalf of the SRI Council, officers and staff, I invite you to attend the exciting meeting we have planned and connect with our colleagues and friends in SRI! <add OECD logo> GUIDE TO MEASURING THE INFORMATION SOCIETY, 2009 1 FOREWORD The Working Party on Indicators for the Information Society (WPIIS) first discussed the Guide for Measuring the Information Society at its April 2005 meeting. A number of WPIIS delegates and others provided comments, both before and after the meeting. The Guide was first published at the end of 2005. It was prepared by Sheridan Roberts of the OECD with substantial input from a number of other contributors. This revision was also prepared by Sheridan Roberts (as a consultant to the OECD), again with the assistance of other contributors (see Acknowledgements for details). A draft was presented to the 2007 WPIIS meeting and delegates were invited to provide comments. Further changes were made during 2008 and 2009, mainly reflecting finalisation of the information economy product classifications (affecting Chapters 2 and 7, and Annex 1a). The Guide is published under the responsibility of the Secretary-General of the OECD. © Copyright OECD/OCDE, 2009 2 TABLE OF CONTENTS FOREWORD...................................................................................................................................................2 PREFACE .......................................................................................................................................................9 CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION..................................................................................................................11 The information society, in statistical terms

Migration, Religious Conversion, and Transnational Activism: A Vancouver Chinese Church’s Quest to Change China by Joshua Tan B.A. (summa cum laude), New York University, 2016 A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF ARTS in The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (History) THE UNIVERISTY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA (Vancouver) May 2018 © Joshua Tan, 2018 The following individuals certify that they have read, and recommend to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies for acceptance, the thesis entitled: MIGRATION, RELIGIOUS CONVERSION, AND TRANSNATIONAL ACTIVISM: A VANCOUVER CHINESE CHURCH’S QUEST TO CHANGE CHINA Submitted by JOSHUA TAN in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS in HISTORY Examining Committee: GLEN PETERSON, HISTORY Supervisor LEO K. SHIN, HISTORY & ASIAN STUDIES Supervisory Committee Member DONALD L. BAKER, ASIAN STUDIES Supervisory Committee Member ii Abstract Exile or migration, and religious conversion, are two powerful impetuses for people disillusioned with existing regimes to improve their predicament and find new sources of meaning and purpose. Whereas both the study of overseas Chinese, as well as religion in modern China, have flourished since China’s era of reform and opening— alongside growing religions practice and reinvigorated transnational networks— scholarship in both fields has paid insufficient attention to transnational Chinese communities drawn along religious lines, and their potency to mobilize for activist causes in China. This thesis draws attention to the confluence of migration, religious conversion, and transnational activism to “change China” among a generation of intellectuals who exited China in the aftermath of the Tiananmen crackdown in 1989.

Kevin Kanisius Suherman plays Schimmel Konzert 280 SCHUMANN | LISZT | CHOPIN BEETHOVEN AC9_Suherman_Booklet_11-2011_rz.indd 4 01.12.11 17:05 Programme Notes Frédéric Chopin – Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante Andante Spianato (moving smoothly), a sensitive solo piano piece was later added as an introduction to his Grande Polonaise Brillante Op 22, which was for piano and orchestra. In fact, he gave the orchestra very little to do, apart from adding colour to the harmonies, and with just a few bars on its own, so the work is usually played as a piano solo without orchestra. It has become an attractive and exciting addition to the solo piano repertoire. The Andante needs no explanation. It typifi es Chopin’s reputation as a poet of the piano and as a writer of songs for the piano, containing warm, but uncomplicated emotions, in the context of simple beauty of sound. After the Andante, the Polonaise is introduced by a fanfare-like passage originally played by the orchestra, but usually transcribed for the piano. Then the piano begins the Polonaise itself. Chopin’s extensive inclusion of Polish music ideas and traditions in his music is evident in many works. The Polonaise is of particular interest. Unlike other dances, for example Waltzes and Mazurkas, the Polonaise is more a ceremonial procession before aristocratic or royal personnages, than it is a dance in the usual sense. In this case, Chopin starts with a very rhythmic, almost military, statement of the theme, which appears with unemotional simplicity of pulse. AC9_Suherman_Booklet_11-2011_rz.indd 5 01.12.11 17:05 Chopin, however, could not long resist the temptation to add his own personal stamps to the music.
