2 FINAL PROGRAM Society for Reproductive Investigation 64th Annual Scientific Meeting MARCH 15-18, 2017 ORLANDO, FL Message from SRI President

Welcome Dear Colleagues: Welcome to the 64th Annual Meeting of the Society for Reproductive Investigation, March 15 - 18, 2017 in Orlando, FL. The theme of the 2017 meeting, “D2D: Data to Discovery,” was chosen to highlight new basic, translational and clinical approaches and opportunities for harnessing the power of scientific data to promote knowledge in reproductive health and medicine. Sam Mesiano, PhD, as Program Director, has created an excellent program, which includes three Presidential Distinguished Lecturers, one trainee plenary session, 24 concurrent oral sessions, 12 mini-symposia and two special symposia. In addition to the scientific sessions, we have also planned complementary events that advance the mission of SRI. The first is Connection Corners, an annual event that engages trainees with the more experienced members of the Society. We will also hold three lunch sessions – on Wednesday, we will hold a Diversity Career Development Forum; on Thursday, the topic will be Systems Biology in Pregnancy Health and Research; on Friday, the focus will be Precision Medicine and Women’s Health. Each of our three Presidential Distinguished Lectures represents a different aspect of our D2D theme. The Thursday Presidential lecturer is Suchi Saria, PhD, from the Department of Computational Sciences at Johns Hopkins University. Dr Saria is an expert in computational biology and machine learning. She applies her unique knowledge to computational health informatics and predictive modeling in healthcare. The Friday Presidential lecturer is Stephen Quake, PhD, Lee Otterson Professor in the School of Engineering and Professor of Bioengineering, Applied Physics and Physics at . Dr Quake’s recent inventions in the area of prenatal genomics have transformed the field. He will share his innovative research and provide visionary comments about the future of blood based-genomic testing. David Haig, PhD, George Putnam Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at , will give the Saturday Presidential lecture. Dr. Haig will talk about his novel and provocative data synthesis approaches to understanding maternal-fetal conflict. The 2017 annual meeting will be held in Orlando, FL, at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek. The science will be stimulating, the camaraderie will be engaging, and the warm sun of Florida will be shining. On behalf of the SRI Council, officers and staff, I invite you to attend the exciting meeting we have planned and connect with our colleagues and friends in SRI! Yours,

Yoel Sadovsky, MD, SRI President 2016-2017

FINAL PROGRAM Society for Reproductive Investigation 64th Annual Scientific Meeting MARCH 15-18, 2017 ORLANDO, FL 91 About SRI

About SRI It started in 1953… when a small group of physician-scientists and a basic researcher studying hypertensive disorders of pregnancy proposed the formation of an “Eclampsia” or “Toxemia” society. Leaders of the group included Drs. Nicholas Assali, Leon Chesley, Edward Davis, William Dieckmann, Russel de Alverez, Louis Hellman, and Ernst Page. In Dr. Larry Longo’s book, A Short History of the Society for Gynecologic Investigation, he states that the “Society of University Gynecologists”, as it was first called, was organized “…to stimulate, encourage, and to provide opportunities for investigators in obstetrics and gynecology to enter into free exchange of ideas to the end of increasing knowledge and techniques in this field. It was intended primarily for individuals who are giving full or considerable time to teaching and research, either in obstetrics and gynecology or in the fields kindred or related thereto.” The first official meeting of the Society of University Gynecologists was held on June 15, 1953, at the Yale Club in New York City. The first annual meeting took place in December of 1953 in Cincinnati, OH, with a programmatic focus on toxemias of pregnancy. During this time, the leadership contemplated whether the name of the society was truly representative of the overarching interests of the members. While the name was formally changed to “Society for Gynecologic Investigation” at the annual meeting in Chicago in 1954, the topic was re-visited over the years, and in the summer of 2013, as a part of an SGI Executive Council strategic planning discussion, the name of the Society was re-evaluated, and in 2014 it was changed to the current, “Society for Reproductive Investigation.” The Society adopted its first journal in 1970, which was termed “Gynecological Investigation”, and became the society’s official publication, with Walter Hermann serving as Editor-in Chief. Publication was stopped shortly thereafter, in 1975. All SGI proceedings were subsequently published by the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with Dan Mishell as the SGI Editor. The SGI re-initiated its own journal in 1994, The Journal of the Society for Gynecologic Investigation, with Roger Lobo as its first Editor. In 2007 under Hugh Taylor’s leadership, the Society’s journal has morphed again to its current title, Reproductive Sciences. From its initial roster of 15 members, the Society has grown in numbers and diversity, with 93 members in 1964 to nearly 300 members in 1978, and to the 2016 membership of almost 1,000 worldwide. One-third of the members are basic scientists and two-thirds are clinical investigators. SRI members conduct basic, translational and clinical investigation in the reproductive sciences and women’s health. Areas of focus include obstetrics, perinatology, reproductive genetics, gynecology, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology, reproductive physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, epidemiology, reproductive infectious disease and reproductive stem cell and developmental biology. Many members hold esteemed government-level grants and serve on study sections and advisory councils for national agencies and private foundations.
