A Perspective 2019

FLAIA is excited to be hosting the 8th Annual: A Global Macro Perspective 2019, December 4, in Miami, Florida during DECEMBER 4, 2018 Art Basel week. The conference precedes Art 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM EST Basel, the world’s largest modern art show, and serves as a great forum for all participants in the Greenberg Traurig Miami alternatives community to explore macro economic 333 SE 2nd Ave # 4400 trends, geo political risks, portfolio allocation strategies Miami, FL 33131 and networking with peers from all over the world. A Global Macro Perspective 2019 WELCOME

Dear Professionals,

The constantly changing geopolitical climate gives rise to risk or opportunity. Art Basel is my favorite time of year. The weather cools a little and Miami is not overly crowded like high season but still full of interesting, colorful people from all over the world. I have been involved in Art Basel since 2002 and have experienced its growth from inception to the largest modern art show in the world. That growth, while impressive, does not compare to the intrigue that I get each year from viewing the world through the eyes of hundreds, if not thousands of different artists. Each year, I enjoy attending the show to view the overarching macro themes that surface in the art world. Reflecting back to 2003, I remember the macro themes being war, war machines, invasions, and ugly America. Fast forward to my least favorite theme in 2014- a year of perfect shapes like squares and isosceles triangles with plain colors like baby blue-depicting a smooth and stable world. On the investment front, 2014 was a great year around the world. The problem that started to brew in 2014 was the crash of the oil market. By the end of January 2016, oil was below $30 dollars a barrel, reflecting an oversupply and lack of global GDP growth. Looking at 2018 and reflecting on the price action of this year, one cannot imagine the same smooth colors and or perfectly symmetrical shapes such as those found in 2014. Vice President Mike Pence and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) traded barbs and talked about cold war, hot war and trade wars. I anxiously await this year and the views from the artist community. We are in our 8th year of A Global Macro Perspective and our vision is to bring together principals and thought leaders from all over the world to discuss the market moving events that market wizards recognize as being meaningful to the economy. In 2016, if you waited for the end of January to organize your thoughts, you may have experienced a 15%+ market drawdown straight across the board. A Global Macro Perspective 2019 is timed perfectly to allow for reflection on the current year's market performance as well as to strategize for the upcoming year. Art Basel brings 20,000 high net worth people together in Miami each year and has only grown against a backdrop of multiple troubling geopolitical issues that were supposed to deliver the death knell to the world’s largest modern art show. The doom and gloom predictions continue as thought leaders, titans, deep pocketed investors and the global art market converges on Miami. The Florida Alternative Investment Association offers a place for key decision makers to discuss geopolitical issues, global macro trends, and evaluate both opportunities and threats in today’s economic environment.

Sincerely,

Michael Corcelli Founder & Chairman Florida Alternative Investment Association A Global Macro Perspective 2019 AGENDA
