What is Islam? and How to Convert to Islam In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful All Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds and may peace and blessings of Allah be upon the most honorable of all Prophets and Messengers; Muhammad. Introduction Every right or wrong ideology, every beneficial or harmful community association and every good or evil party has principles, intellectual basis and ideological issues that determine its purpose and direction and become as a constitution for its members and followers. Whoever wants to belong to one of them, has to look firstly at its principles. If he is satisfied with the principles, believes of its validity and accepts it with his conscious and subconscious mind without any doubts, then he can be a member of that association or party. Afterwards, he enrolls among the lines of its members and has to perform the duties required by the constitution and pay the membership fees that are set by the laws. He also has to exhibit behaviors indicate loyalty to its principles besides always remembering those principles to not commit deeds contradict with them. He has to be a perfect example via showing decent morals and behaviors and become a real proponent of them. Nutshell, being a member of a party or association requires: knowing its laws, believing in itsprinciples, obeying its rules and conducing one’s life accordance to it.This is a general situation that also applies to Islam. Therefore, whoever wants to enter Islam has to firstly accept its rational bases and assertively believe in them in order to have strong doctrine or faith. -

Hence, the purpose of the present study was to identify the traits of Takwa in surah Al-Baqara in the Holy Quran. The data for this study were obtained from verses in surah Al-Baqara. Purposive sampling was used to select the verses that contain the traits of Taqwa using an established tafseer (Quranic interpretation) in the Qurainic field as a guideline in marking the Taqwa traits in sampling the verses. Two experts in the field of Quranic tafseer validated the traits of Taqwa extracted from each selected verse. -

Time and Days: Wednesdays 3:30-6:30 Room: V210 Prerequisites: none Course Description and Goals: In this class we will explore the spirituality of Muslim women past and present. We begin with a study of the portrayal of women in the Qur’an and the lives of female companions of the Prophet Muhammad whose concerns and perspectives helped shape the spiritual development of the early Muslim community. In later centuries, we will look at the roles women have played in the establishment of religious discourses and institutions and discuss challenges Muslim women have faced in fulfilling their spiritual needs in diverse societies. We will consider many more questions, such as how spirituality is embodied by women and the impact of such practices as gender segregation and hijab. Does the elevation of “the feminine” in traditional spirituality contribute to Muslim women’s spiritual empowerment or the contrary? What are the spiritual practices and understandings of major life cycles? How do women understand the spiritual dimensions of marriage and celibacy, motherhood and childlessness, intimacy and abuse? Learning Goals: To know what the Qur’an says about women and gender To understand different hermeneutical approaches to the Qur’an and the Sunnah and various legal methodologies that impact women To be able to identify at least a dozen prominent Muslim women religious leaders in history or contemporary society To be able to discuss the ways in which Muslim women’s spirituality is the same or different as men’s spirituality To identify the way culture and social structures shape and impact Muslim women’s spirituality. -

Translation Loss in Translation of the Glorious Quran, with Special Reference to Verbal Similarity Batoul Ahmed Omer Translation Loss in Translation of the Glorious Quran, with Special Reference to Verbal Similarity Batoul Ahmed Omer Abstract The process of translation is highly delicate and extremely difficult task to undertake when it deals with the translation of the Quran which, of course, transforms the Quran as the WORD of Allah into Arabic to the speech of a human being in another language. Translations of the Quran into all languages are indispensable to communicate the Divine message to Non-Arabic Muslims as well as Non-Muslims around the world. Nowadays, numerous translations are available for non-Arabic speakers. Many English translations have been widely criticized for their inability to capture the intended meaning of Quranic words and expressions. These translations proved the inimitability of the Qur'anic discourse that employs extensive and complex syntactical and rhetoric features and that linguistically the principle of absolute untranslatability applies to the Quran. Consequently, partial or complete grammatical and semantic losses are encountered in translation due to the lack of some of these features in English. These translation losses is particularly apparent in translation of verbal similarity in the Quranic verses, as an abundant phenomenon in the Quran, in the form of over-, under-, or mistranslation of a source text (ST). This study attempted to investigate these translation losses in the translation of the Holy Quran focusing on verbal similarity as an impressive way of expression and a rhetorical figure widely used in the Quran. CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHOD This chapter consists of research design, research instrument, data and data source, data collection, subject of the research, and data analysis. 3.1 Research Design This study used content analysis method because it analyzed the data descriptively based on theory of tree diagrams. In addition, the data of this study are sentences, phrase and words rather than numbers. 3.2 Data Collection 3.2.1. Data and Data Source The data source of the research was literary work that is Qur’an English translation by Shakir. Meanwhile, the data of this research was verses on 5 Meccan Surahs and 5 Medinan surahs on Shakir’s Qur’an English translation. The 5 Meccan Surahs are “Asy-Syams”, “Al-Balad”, “Al-A’la”, “At-Thariq”, and “Al- ‘Adiyat”, whereas the 5 Medinan surahs are “At-Thalaq”, “At-Taghabun”, “Al- Munafiqun”, “Al-Jumu’ah”, and “As-Saf”. 20 digilib.uinsby.ac.id digilib.uinsby.ac.id digilib.uinsby.ac.id digilib.uinsby.ac.id digilib.uinsby.ac.id digilib.uinsby.ac.id digilib.uinsby.ac.id 21 3.2.2. CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION This chapter provided fundamental ideas of analyze the difference sentence structure portrayed between Meccan and Medinan surahs of Shakir’sQu’ran English translation. It consists of background of the study, research problem, research objectives, significance of the study, scope and limitation, and definition of key term. 1.1. Background of the study Tree diagram has becomes an interestingfield to be investigated of many researchers in the past decade. Therefore the development of research on tree diagram develops constantly. A series of the research have been analyzed the tree diagram as their study on undergraduate thesis (Yun, 2009), book (Haryati, 2015), newspaper (Nani, 2003), magazine (Muhammad, 2012), corpus (Dukes, et.al, 2013), language spoken (Timothy, 2014) and journal research article (Qiang, 2010). Tree diagram is important to understand by assigning an individual tree diagram to each rule and can help to get understanding of ambiguous sentences. Muhammad (2012) said that an ambiguity occurs when a word, a phrase, a sentence can be understood or interpreted in more than one meaning. Tree diagram consist of some contexts such as types of sentences, phrases, clauses, and word classes. Some other researchers have already done their study in various focuses of tree diagram, such as pronoun (Timothy, 2014), sentence (Nani, 2003), adverb (Muhammed, 2013), structures (Muhammad, 2012), noun phrase (Haryati, 2015), and types of sentences(Chandni, et.al, 2014).
