Boulden Bechtel Infrastructure Power POWER-GEN INTERNATIONAL 2015 December 8 - 10, 2015 Las Vegas Convention Center Las Vegas, NV USA ABSTRACT This paper discusses a new power generation cycle based on the fundamental thermodynamic concepts of constant volume combustion and reheat. The turbo- compound reheat gas turbine combined cycle (TC-RHT GTCC) comprises three pieces of rotating equipment: A turbo-compressor and two prime movers, i.e., a reciprocating gas engine and an industrial (heavy duty) gas turbine. Ideally, the cycle is proposed as the foundation of a customized power plant design of a given size and performance by combining different prime movers with new "from the blank sheet" designs. Nevertheless, a compact power plant based on the TC-RHT cycle can also be constructed by combining off-the-shelf equipment with modifications for immediate implementation. The paper describes the underlying thermodynamic principles, representative cycle calculations and value proposition as well as requisite modifications to the existing hardware. The operational philosophy governing plant start-up, shut-down and loading is described in detail. Also included in the paper is a 110 MW reference power block concept with 57+% net efficiency. The concept has been developed using a pre-engineered standard block approach and is amenable to simple “module-by-module” construction including easy shipment of individual components. NMRN Master Narrative Ours is the epic story of the Royal Navy, its impact on Britain and the world from its origins in 625 A.D. to the present day. We will tell this emotionally-coloured and nuanced story, one of triumph and achievement as well as failure and muddle, through four key themes:- People. We tell the story of the Royal Navy’s people. We examine the qualities that distinguish people serving at sea: courage, loyalty and sacrifice but also incidents of ignorance, cruelty and cowardice. We trace the changes from the amateur ‘soldiers at sea’, through the professionalization of officers and then ships’ companies, onto the ‘citizen sailors’ who fought the World Wars and finally to today’s small, elite force of men and women. We highlight the change as people are rewarded in war with personal profit and prize money but then dispensed with in peace, to the different kind of recognition given to salaried public servants. Increasingly the people’s story becomes one of highly trained specialists, often serving in branches with strong corporate identities: the Royal Marines, the Submarine Service and the Fleet Air Arm. We will examine these identities and the Royal Navy’s unique camaraderie, characterised by simultaneous loyalties to ship, trade, branch, service and comrades. Purpose. We tell the story of the Royal Navy’s roles in the past, and explain its purpose today. Using examples of what the service did and continues to do, we show how for centuries it was the pre-eminent agent of first the British Crown and then of state policy throughout the world. -

RAAF Radschool Association Magazine – Vol 32 Page 15 The TSR-2: A BRITISH STORY WITH AN AUSTRALIAN CHAPTER With the era of the F-111 coming to a close, it is timely to reflect on the development of this aircraft and the rivals that existed at the time of its selection. The principal competitor was the British Aircraft Corporation’s Tactical Strike and Reconnaissance (TSR-2) aircraft. However, as indicated by Sir Sydney Camm’s comment, the development and subsequent abrupt cancellation of the project in 1965 was politically charged. While it was suggested at the time that Australia played a key role in the demise of the TSR-2, there appears to have been many other contributors to its downfall. From the mid 1950s, the RAF and subsequently the RAAF identified the need to replace the Canberra bomber, focusing on a nuclear-capable aircraft. Given the rapid advances in anti-aircraft weaponry capability, having supersonic strike aircraft that could slip under radar surveillance was seen as a priority. The development of the TSR-2 was also the result of the British Government’s focus in the late 1950s on rationalising the eight main British aircraft manufacturers that then existed. On New Year’s Day 1959, Vickers-Armstrong and English Electric, amalgamated as the new British Aircraft Corporation (BAC), were awarded the contract to combine their earlier individual designs into the TSR-2. Later that year Bristol- Siddeley were awarded the contract for development of the Olympus engines which were to power the aircraft. Like the development of any aircraft, the TSR-2 had its technical problems. -

Jerome S. Fanciulli Collection History of Aviation Collection Provenance Jerome S. Fanciulli was born in New York City, January 12, 1988. He was the son of Professor Francesco and Amanda Fanciulli. He was educated at de Witt Clinton High School in New York City. He attended St. Louis University, St. Louis, 1903-04 and Stevens Institute, Hoboken, N.J., 1904-05. He married Marian Callaghan in November, 1909. On January 12, 1986 he died in Winchester Hospital in Winchester, Virginia. Mr. Fanciulli worked for the Washington Post and then joined the Associated Press where his assignments were on the Capitol staff of the Associated Press. He became the AP’s aviation specialist. Mr. Fanciulli was a charter member of the National Press Club and a founding member of the Aero Club of Washington, D.C. In November 19098, Mr. Fanciulli joined Glenn H. Curtiss’ company. He was Vice President and General Manger of the Curtiss Exhibition Company. Among his many varied duties Mr. Fanciulli established schools of aviation and directed the demonstration and sale of Curtiss aeroplanes in the United States and Europe. He promoted or conducted some of the largest air meets in the United States prior to 1913. He collaborated with the United States Army and the United States Navy in developing aeroplane specifications. Mr. Fanciulli wrote magazine articles, employed and directed aviators obtaining contracts for them. Mr. Fanciulli sold the United States Navy its first biplane and the United States Army its second biplane. He also sold czarist Russia its first plane for their Navy. Michael McMurtrey IPMS-USA 1746 Carrollton, TX [email protected] As 2011 marks the centennial of U.S. naval aviation, aircraft modelers might be interested in this list of US naval aircraft — including those of the Marines and Coast Guard, as well as captured enemy aircraft tested by the US Navy — which are available as 1/72 scale kits. Why 1/72? There are far more kits of naval aircraft available in this scale than any other. Plus, it’s my favorite, in spite of advancing age and weakening eyes. This is an updated version of an article I prepared for the 75th Anniversary of US naval aviation and which was published in a 1986 issue of the old IPMS-USA Update. It’s amazing to compare the two and realize what developments have occurred, both in naval aeronautical technology and the scale modeling hobby, but especially the latter. My 1986 list included 168 specific aircraft types available in kit form from thirty- three manufacturers — some injected, some vacuum-formed — and only three conversion kits and no resin kits. Many of these names (Classic Plane, Contrails, Eagle’s Talon, Esci, Ertl, Formaplane, Frog, Griffin, Hawk, Matchbox, Monogram, Rareplane, Veeday, Victor 66) are no longer with us or have been absorbed by others. This update lists 345 aircraft types (including the original 168) from 192 different companies (including the original 33), many of which, especially the producers of resin kits, were not in existence in 1986, and some of which were unknown to me at the time. -

This study sheds light on the technology currently available or under development that enables engine downsizing in passenger cars. Pros and cons, and any recently published literature of these systems, will be considered. The study clearly shows that no certain boosting method is superior. Selection of the best boosting method depends largely on the application and complexity of the system. Introduction Although internal combustion engines are getting more efficient nowadays, still the major part of fuel energy is transformed into wasted heat. In terms of harmful exhaust emissions, the transportation sector is responsible for the one-third of CO2 emissions worldwide and approximately 15% of the overall greenhouse gas emissions [1]. Moreover, owing to the limited amount of fossil fuels, prices fluctuate significantly, with consistent general rising trends, resulting in economic issues in non-oil-producing countries. -
