DearBrothers and Sistersin Christ.

Our diocesehas a stronghistory of dedicatedmen who haveoffered a lifetime of serviceto the Catholicfaithful herein SouthCarolina. Even before the establishmentof our diocesein 1820, groupsofdedicated priests served our region. That tradition ofservice continues to this day.A primary goal of our dioceseis to properly carefor our priestsby providing them much needed medicalattention. While healthinsurance provides much of the necessarysupport, many priests need carethat may not be fully covered.

Provideour ill or retiredpriests with our careand support in this time of escalatingmedical costsby giving to our collectionfor infirm priests. These priests have spent their livescaring for othersand helping those most in need.I am confidentthat we will continueto do our bestto carefor themas well.

“The Call” is the title of the very first chapter of the United States Catholic bishops’ pastoral letter Stewardship: Special Guests of the 2017 Annual Conference A Disciple’s Response. Their premise is that every baptized Christian is called to be a follower of Jesus Christ and to be a good steward of their life in Christ. Today, twenty-five years Bishop Robert F. Morneau after the stewardship pastoral was written, the International Emeritus Catholic Stewardship Council honors the bishops’ pastoral Diocese of Green Bay, at its 55th annual conference to be held from September 17 to 20, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia. This year, ICSC adopts as its conference image the classical painting The Calling of Saint Matthew by Michelangelo Caravaggio. This painting depicts the gospel scene where Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory Jesus calls Matthew to follow him (Mt. 9:9); thus, changing Archbishop his life radically. The painting symbolizes that universal call Archdiocese of Atlanta, Georgia to follow Christ Jesus no matter the cost. It is not a coin- cidence that this year’s ICSC conference begins a few days before the feast of Saint Matthew on September 21.
