  • Vidyartha 'Tigers' on the Prowl This Season
Thursday 26th April, 2012 15 BY RAVI NAGAHAWATTE idyartha College Kandy is experi- Schools rugby logbook encing a boom in rugby and what’s Vgreat is that there is a lot of help for the boys wearing the double blue and yellow jerseys to cement their place in Group A of the Division 1 Tournament. The Kandy school has a couple of big boys who look ferocious and coach Anil Jayasinghe says that given how they Vidyartha ‘Tigers’ on played against Isipatana in the maiden fixture in 15-a-side rugby this season, last week, the team should provide some shocks this season. That match ended in a thrilling 19-all draw and Jayasinghe is happy about the the prowl this season performance, because everybody rated the Green Shirts as the favourite team to walk away with the match. But if you perform an analysis on Vidyartha’s start to the 2012 rugby season, that perform- ance against Isipatana is no flash in the pan. “Vidyartha met Isipatana twice this season in sevens rugby and we beat them on both occasions. Those past experi- ences against Isipatana this season would have tremendously helped the boys to build their confidence. The other reason behind that great performance is that the school has 11 seniors, who helped them win the Division 1 Group B last season and earn promotion to the top group in the league,” explained Jayasinghe. Vidyartha doesn’t enjoy the best of facilities when compared to other popu- lar rugby playing schools. However, what’s inspiring is that a group compris- ing old boys, parents and well-wishers has made a commitment to help the school’s rugby set-up and work towards this cause through an organization called the Vidyartha Rugby Development Group.

Kandyan reign of Sri Lanka (15th Century AD to 1815) was selected for the research. The era is well- known for the strong effects of foreign influences on the dress of royalty and elite, was analyzed in this research paper. The study began with the observational study of temple paintings, sculptures, sketches of the period. In order to ensure the reliability, the data were cross-checked with different sources. The reinforced concept was compared with formally established philosophy in order to forward timely necessary concepts. "Grounded theory methodology" was selected to the research in order to generate theories of influence. Research findings show that observational learning depends on the learning ability of people. It was found out that the reliability of the person who is to be observed is very much concerned in this process. Foreign delegate such as European diplomats was always subjected to be observed by the King. The King maintained a close friendship with foreign officers. Respectively, the King was subjected to be observed by native Adigars'. Elite dressed as same as the King. South Indian queens (randoli) who were considered as the right heir to the throne were always observed by native queens of yakadadoli. Native queens followed South Indian dress styles.
