The following construction activities will be implemented under the proposed sub-project: Installation of 2 water ways, which will be connected to drinking water pipeline, 23,0 m length (PE 57x2,8 ) waterway 50,0 m length (PE 57x2,8) waterway, Construction of two 24,0 and 18,0 long metallic troughs- semi-pipes installed on concrete - cobblestone platform. 2 water collection chambers installation 51,0.2x20.0 m open cattle-pen construction, from which 15.0x6.0m will have a roof Construction of 4.6x6.4, h=3.0 m shelter for herdsman The design for pastures watering network has been developed by the MANANA -1 design company under the contract concluded with Agricultural Project Implementation Unit. -

Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Foundation Monitoring Report On Working Conditions in First Instance Courts in Shirak, Gegharkunik, and Syunik Marzes (Regions) Studies were conducted and this Report was elaborated due to the generous financial and technical assistance of the OSCE Office in Yerevan and the Polish Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights Preface The mission of the A. D. Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Foundation is to support the establishment of a civil society in Armenia, to enhance legal awareness of the public, and to protect rights and freedoms of humans and citizens. The organization has three regional branches in Shirak (City of Gyumri), Gegharkunik (City of Gavar), and Syunik (City of Goris). In 2001, representatives of the three branches attended a series of “Monitoring and Human Rights” seminars held in Lusakert by the OSCE Office in Yerevan and the Polish Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights; as a practical follow-up to the seminars, and within the framework of the ongoing judicial reform, they have carried out a “Monitoring of Working Conditions in First Instance Courts” project in the Shirak, Gegharkunik, and Syunik regions of Armenia. The goal of the project was to explore the current conditions in which courts in the regions operate, because the working conditions and infrastructure of the third branch of government are crucial in terms of its stance, its improved role and authority, and guaranteeing the right of citizens to a fair and public trial within a reasonable time, as required under the existing laws. The concept of the judicial reform in the Republic of Armenia was formed under the Constitution adopted in 1995. -

Armenia: Need to Monitor Progress Towards Durable Solutions
23 February 2010 ARMENIA Need to monitor progress towards durable solutions Some 20 years after the beginning of Armenia’s war with Azerbaijan and related violence, information on the remaining 8,400 people internally displaced is scarce. People inter- nally displaced by the conflict have received hardly any government attention because other larger refugee and internally displaced groups have made competing demands on the state budget in a time of economic transition and crisis. International organisations have also largely neglected their plight. The low public profile and lack of registration and monitoring of these internally displaced people (IDPs) and returnees have made it diffi- cult to estimate how many have achieved durable solutions. IDPs and returnees face some of the same challenges as their non-displaced neighbours, and some face additional particular hardships including the loss of or damage to prop- erty, the unavailability of property restitution or compensation mechanisms, the inability to visit former homes and the continuing insecurity in border areas. Some suffered psy- chological trauma during the war, depend on welfare and are only minimally engaged in economic activities. The remaining IDPs and returnees will not achieve durable solutions until their specific needs are identified and addressed, reconciliation initiatives established and, above all, a peace agreement is realised. RA Gegharkunik Marz 199 RA GEGHARKUNIK MARZ Marz centr –Gavar town Territory 5348 square km Agricultural land 240033 ha including arable land 95148 ha Urban communities 5 Rural communities 87 Rural settlements 93 Population as of January 1, 2003 238.0 ths. persons including urban 79.6 ths. persons rural 158.4 ths. persons RA Gegharkunik marz is situated in the East of the territory of the Republic of Armenia, surrounding the Lake Sevan. It borders Azerbaijan from the East and occupies the 18% of RA territory (the largest marz by its territory). The marz includes the territories of Gavar, Tchambarak (former Krasnoselsk), Martuni, Sevan and Vardenis. The population of the marz comprised the 7.4% of total population of the republic as of January 1, 2003. The 66.6% of population resides in the rural settlements. The marz includes 5 towns such as Gavar, Tchambarak, Martuni, Sevan, Vardenis and 93 rural settlements. The longest extension of the marz from the North-West to the South-East comprised 115 km, from the West to the East - 85 km, the deepest landslide is the canyon of the Getik river (village of Dsoravank) (1325 m), the highest peak – Ajdahak mountain (3598 m). Spitakasar (3555 m), Vardenis (3522 m) and Geghasar (3446 m) are the highest mountains. Argichi (51 km), Gavaraget (47 km) and Masrik (45 km) are the longest rivers. Marzes of the Republic of Armenia in Figures, 1998-2002 201 Sevan is the largest lake (1260 km2, the height above sea-level is 1898m); the crater lakes of Ajdahak and Aghmaghani are comparatively small lakes - up to 50 m in diameter and at a depth of 15 m. -

REPORT Project title: Warm Shoes to Schoolchildren from Vulnerable Families of Armenia project Reporting period: February 1-December 31, 2011 Donor (s): Organizations, private donors Implementer: Jinishian Memorial Foundation (JMF) AMD: 14,501,457 Budget (raised funds): USD: 38,162 Prepared by: Hasmik Sevumyan Submitted on: January 24, 2011 In 2011 the Jinishian Memorial Foundation has initiated a philanthropic activity to support school age children from remote northern villages of Armenia to be warmly booted during severe winter time. These are children who do not attend school during winter or attend in worn out shoes or even in shabby home slippers, which harshly influences on their health and sometimes later becomes a cause of chronic diseases. JMF has targeted Amasia, Ashotsk regions of Shirak marz and Vardenis, Chambarak regions of Gegharkunik marz, well-known with their cold and snowy winters, when during the long-lasting winter period people live isolated due to impassable roads and where people are mostly poor. To raise funds for supporting school age children from these regions a page was created on Facebook; informative/request letters were sent to potential donors, Jinishian partners, board members, etc. In 2011 the Jinishian Memorial Foundation raised 14,501,457 AMD/ 38,162 USD/. Actively cooperating with the local self governing bodies and school principals of those regions, JMF created the database of schoolchildren from Ashotsq, Amasia and Chambarak, Vardenis regions of Shirak and Gegharkunik marzes. 1 | Warm Shoes to Schoolchildren from Vulnerable Families of Armenia Not to be late and have shoes ready for the approaching winter season JMF started the project implementation from September. -

Garo Meghrigian Institute for Preventive Ophthalmology 2011 Annual Report Prepared by: Aida Giloyan, MPH Research Associate, Meghrigian Institute Tsovinar Harutyunyan, MPH, PhD Research Consultant, CHSR Varduhi Petrosyan, MS, PhD Director, CHSR Meghrigian Institute Annual Report 2011 Executive Summary The Garo Meghrigian Institute for preventive Ophthalmology (Meghrigian Institute) is part of the Center for Health Services Research and Development (CHSR) of the College of Health Sciences of the American University of Armenia (AUA). Meghrigian Institute’s mission is to prevent avoidable blindness in Armenia. This Annual Report highlights the main activities and accomplishments of the Meghrigian Institute in 2011. In April 2011, Meghrigian Institute conducted a study of risk factors for refractive errors (RE) development among 6-18 years old schoolchildren in Yerevan and Gegharkunik marz. The study also compared the prevalence of RE among schoolchildren in Yerevan and Gegharkunik. On September 24-25 and October 15-16, the Meghrigian Institute conducted a 2-day training course on “Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Ophthalmic Diseases at the Primary Health Care Level” in Gegharkunik marz. The training course was designed for primary health care (PHC) nurses and was carried out at the Lions Regional Ophthalmic Unit (ROU) in Sevan. Thirty one participants from five towns (Tchambarak, Vardenis, Martuni, Gavar and Sevan) and six remote villiges (Geghamabak, Shatvan, Sotk, Tsovagyugh, Geghamavan and Gagarinavan) participated in the training. To celebrate the World Sight Day on October 13, 2011, the staff of the Meghrigian Institute visited “Kharberd” specialized orphanage to conduct annual eye screenings among handicapped and orphaned children, and offer medical assistance. Almost all of the screened children had some type of visual disturbance and/or eye disease. -
