PROGRAM AND EVENTS The conference in a nutshell: Wednesday evening for those arriving early, we'll have pizza and informal chow on the Texas level of the Delta Queen, look at the river and city and sunset, wishing we'd brought our fishing poles. It is so relaxing on that big old boat nobody will have trouble sleeping. A great breakfast buffet awaits us in the morning. Following breakfast, we’ll spend some quality time learning about 19th century mapping with the emphasis being on the War Between the States. Following a box lunch on the grounds of beautiful Coolidge Park, we will celebrate the entire afternoon mapping; utilizing tools and techniques used during that War. That evening, we’ll board buses and travel to the side of Missionary Ridge to enjoy an evening of fellowship. Sugar’s Ribs overlooks the City of Chattanooga and if we’re lucky, we’ll get one of those famous sunsets. Friday morning brings us some local history that had an impact on not just all the but the world as well. Both current and former employees of TVA will share that organization’s contributions to the mapping sciences. Did you know that the standard Quad sheet was developed right here in Chattanooga or know that photogrammetry was perfected here? The afternoon is on your own. SHS Board of Directors will meet at this time. That afternoon, TAPS is having a golf tournament at the Jack Nicklaus designed “Bear Trace”. SHS will have the swap meet set up, a number of authors will be there conducting book signings and there’s an enormous number of restaurants within walking distance. That evening, we’ll have the annual SHS banquet and auction (bring some goodies to bid off). Saturday, SHS will part ways. The Association of Professional Surveyors will hold its fall Board of Directors meeting. There will be a hearty lunch on board with the installation of new officers. Congratulations for you guys stepping up. ****************************ITINERARY********************************* Thursday, September 16 7:00-8:00 am: Breakfast in the Orleans Room 8:00-8:30 am: Welcome with dignitaries 8:30-12:30: 19 th Century American Mapping With Emphasis on the Civil War There will be one morning break with refreshments.
