Haviarová: Chemical composition and quality of waters of the Moldavská jaskyňa Cave (Medzevská pahorkatina Hilly Land) Abstract: The Moldavská jaskyňa Cave with a length of 3,070 m, is situated in the karst of the Medzevská pahorkatina Hilly Land, in the Moldava nad Bodvou Town. The cave is the most typical two-dimensional underground labyrinth in Slovakia. It is formed in the Wetterstein Limestones. The cave is not very interesting from a hydrological point of view. The most important is the Slukova studňa Well with permanent water table. The article presents the results of hydrochemical monitoring from the cave. The chemical composition, quality and microbiological properties were evaluated on the basis of 22 chemical and 14 microbiological analyses of dripping water from 4 sites (Vstupný dóm Chamber, Hlavná chodba Passage, Dóm pri sude Chamber, Dóm pri lebke Cham- ber), dripping water cumulated in the small lake and underground water from Slukova studňa Well with an oscillating water table. Altogether 36 water samples were taken from the cave in the period between May 10, 2017 and November 27, 2018. The main mineralization process of cave waters chemical composition formation is the process of dissolving the carbonates. The cave waters fall under Gazda ’s classification into basic distinct Ca-HCO3 type and basic indistinct Ca-HCO3 type. These types are transformed to mixed types due to pollution, which is presented by increased sulphates, nitrates and chlorides concentrations. The mineraliza- tion of dripping water ranged from 363.0 to 823.0 mg·L-1 and mineralization of water in Slukova studňa Well ranged from 383.0 to -1 2+ 593.0 mg·L . Ca and HCO3- are the predominant ions in the cave water. The samples from small lake were exceptions, with domi- nance of calcium and nitrate. The nitrate concentration of this site was more than 330.0 mg·L-1. The cave waters have indications of inorganic and microbiological pollution. Saturation indices calculated for calcite and dolomite were different in varied parts of cave. Dripping waters have higher saturation with respect to calcite as Slukova studňa Well water. Generally, cave water is supersaturated with respect to calcite, undersaturated and in equilibrium with respect to dolomite and undersaturated with respect to gypsum.

ISBN 80-86525-04-X The six most important caves in the surrounding of the Veľký Folkmar village, the Márnica Cave, the Predná veľká Cave, the Klenbová Cave, the Nová galéria Cave, the Cave Hoľa I, and the Zelená puklinová cave, were investigated for terrestrial arthropods during 2002. Invertebrates were collected by three types of pitfall traps differing in fixation solution (ethylalcohol, formaldehyde, ethylenglycol/beer; with exposition from March to June), by individual hand sampling (March - October) and by heat extraction of baits or organic materials. More then 1500 individuals of mites, pseudoscorpions, spiders, harvestmen, isopods, millipedes and centipedes were obtained and determined. The mites (especially Gamasida with 1062 individuals and 13 spp.) were the most abundant and diverse group. Spiders were also very rich in number of species (17 spp.). The mites Archipteria coleoptrata, Belba clavigera, Damaeus gracillipes, Damaeus cf. tecticola, Oribellopsis cavatica, Liacarus subterraneus, Oribella cf. forsslundi (Oribatida), Parasitus loricatus and Uroobovella advena (Gamasida), the spiders Meta menardi, Metellina merianae, Porrhomma convexum, and P. egeria, the opilionid Mitostoma chrysomelas, and the millipede Trachysphaera costata may be regarded as cavernicolous (eutroglophilous). The other species (Hexapoda excluded) are characterised as dwellers of forest soils and litter and penetrated into subterranean spaces more or less occasionally.

  • Multiculturalism in the Creation of a Gibraltarian Identity
canessa 6 13/07/2018 15:33 Page 102 Chapter Four ‘An Example to the World!’: Multiculturalism in the Creation of a Gibraltarian Identity Luis Martínez, Andrew Canessa and Giacomo Orsini Ethnicity is an essential concept to explain how national identities are articulated in the modern world. Although all countries are ethnically diverse, nation-formation often tends to structure around discourses of a core ethnic group and a hegemonic language.1 Nationalists invent a dominant – and usually essentialised – narrative of the nation, which often set aside the languages, ethnicities, and religious beliefs of minori- ties inhabiting the nation-state’s territory.2 In the last two centuries, many nation-building processes have excluded, removed or segregated ethnic groups from the national narrative and access to rights – even when they constituted the majority of the population as in Bolivia.3 On other occasions, the hosting state assimilated immigrants and ethnic minorities, as they adopted the core-group culture and way of life. This was the case of many immigrant groups in the USA, where, in the 1910s and 1920s, assimilation policies were implemented to acculturate minorities, ‘in attempting to win the immigrant to American ways’.4 In the 1960s, however, the model of a nation-state as being based on a single ethnic group gave way to a model that recognised cultural diver- sity within a national territory. The civil rights movements changed the politics of nation-formation, and many governments developed strate- gies to accommodate those secondary cultures in the nation-state. Multiculturalism is what many poly-ethnic communities – such as, for instance, Canada and Australia – used to redefine their national identi- ties through the recognition of internal cultural difference.

Previous concepts of setal nomenclature are critically analysed. The majority of these efforts were mostly restricted to a limited taxonomic group and therefore limited in use, although most concepts aimed towards general application. For the revised setal nomenclature, embryonic development was analysed. A decisive process is the formation of the gnathosoma with a separation from the subsequent idiosoma segments. In the anterior part of the idiosoma, the segements of legs I, II, III and IV develop, furthermore those of the genital segment consisting of the fused segments 7 and 8. The posterior part of the idiosoma comprises the segments 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13. The parts of the dorsal shield should be named prodorsum and postdorsum, the parts of the ventral idiosoma sternum and venter. Transverse rows of setae and gland pores allow residues of the ancestral body segmentation to be recognised. On the dorsum of basal derivative Gamasina groups, 10 transverse rows of setae are clearly differentiated. On the dorsum we refer to four pairs of longitudinal rows with a tranverse division in five rows on the prodorsum and five rows on the postdorsum.

Frustrating as it might have been, the queues however, are a good Adeal better than they were a year ago… not to mention three decades ago when the Gibraltarians were unable to cross the frontier at all. When Spanish dictator General Franco closed the land border between The times Gibraltar and Spain in 1969, he divided families and friendships at a stroke. Gibraltarians were cut off from loved ones in La Linea, as were Span- iards with relatives on the Rock. For 16 long years an entire generationn were forced to communicate by shouting through the border gates. They shared their joys, sorrows and glimpses of their new-born babies through cold iron bars. When Franco died in 1975, Gibraltarians hoped their enforced incarcera- they are a- tion would end but extraordinarily, it wasn’t for another 10 years - on Feb- ruary 5, 1985 - that the border gates fi nally swung open. The frontier is inextricably linked to the Rock’s past and present and prob- ably its foreseeable future too but get over it - there’s a lot more to see when you do! My tip is to avoid taking your car in at all.
