(1) The survival of peripheral populations is often threatened, especially in a changing environment. Furthermore, such populations frequently show adaptations to local conditions which, in turn, may enhance the ability of a species to adapt to changing environmental conditions. In conservation biology, peripheral populations are therefore of particular interest. (2) In northern Switzerland and southern Germany, Libelloides coccajus is an example of such a peripheral species. (3) Assuming that suitable oviposition sites are crucial to its long-term survival, we compared oviposition sites and adjacent control plots with regard to structure and composition of the vegetation. (4) Vegetation structure at and around oviposition sites seems to follow fairly stringent rules leading to at least two benefits for the egg clutches: (i) reduced risk of contact with adjacent plants, avoiding delayed drying after rainfall or morning dew and (ii) reduced shading and therefore higher temperatures. -

Il existe 300 espèces d’Ascalaphidés dans le monde, une douzaine seulement réside dans la France méridionale. Leur aspect peut être considéré comme intermédiaire entre des Libellules et des Papillons, ce qui leur donne un charme tout particulier. Au repos, ils tiennent leurs ailes en toit, comme les Cigales. Se proponen Hemerobius falciger (Tjeder, 1963) nov. comb. y Hemerobius anomalus (Monserrat, 1992) nov. comb. como nuevas combinaciones y el nombre de Nusalala ilusionata nom. nov. para Nusalala falcata Kimmins, 1940 nec Nusalala falcata (Banks, 1910). Se apoya la validez de Micromus canariensis frente a M. sjostedti y Hemerobius con- vexus n. sp. se describe como una nueva especie braquíptera de Kenia. Flora i Fauna Pienin – Monografie Pienin´ skie 1: 159–161, 2000 Siatkoskrzydłe (Neuropteroidea) ROLAND DOBOSZ Dział Przyrody Muzeum Górnos´la˛skiego, Pl. Jana III Sobieskiego 2, 41–902 Bytom Tres´c´. Brak jest całos´ciowych opracowan´ fauny Neuropteroidea Pienin. Jedy- nie w trzynastu pracach podawane sa˛, najcze˛s´ciej pojedyncze informacje, o owadach siatkoskrzydłych. Niniejsza praca podsumowuje stan poznania neu- ropterofauny Pienin. Z dotychczas wykazanych osiemnastu gatunków (około 20% fauny krajowej) dwanas´cie podał autor. Wykazane z tego regionu gatunki nalez˙a˛ do czterech rodzin: Sialidae (2 gatunki z 3 polskich), Raphidiidae (2 ga- tunki z 7 polskich), Hemerobiidae (10 gatunków z 33 polskich) oraz Chrysopi- dae (4 gatunki z 24 polskich). Nie stwierdzono w Pieninach przedstawicieli pie˛ciu rodzin: Inocelliidae, Coniopterygidae, Osmylidae, Sisyridae oraz Myr- meleontidae. Spos´ród dotychczas wykazanych gatunków na szczególna˛ uwage˛ zasługuja˛: Megalomus tortricoides RAMBUR, 1842, M. hirtus (LINNAEUS, 1761), Hemerobius contumax TJEDER, 1932, Micromus lanosus (ZELENY, 1961) i Peye- rimchoffina gracilis (SCHNEIDER, 1851). Zwraca uwage˛ fakt, iz˙ wymienione rzadsze i ciekawsze gatunki preferuja˛ siedliska ciepłe, dobrze nasłonecznione i suche. W Pieninach moz˙na spodziewac´ sie˛ kolejnych interesuja˛cych przedsta- wicieli owadów siatkoskrzydłych zwia˛zanych z tym typem s´rodowisk, zwłasz- cza z rodzin Raphidiidae, Coniopterygidae, Hemerobiidae i Chrysopidae. Maria di Galeria Rome, Italy; E-mail: [email protected] *Apennine Centre for Ecological Research, Abruzzo National Park I-67032 Pescasseroli, L’Aquila, Italy A preliminary check list of Neuropterida of Abruzzo National Park, Italy, is presented. About 49 taxa of Megaloptera, Raphidioptera, and Neuroptera were detected within the Park and in the surrounding areas, although the identity of 13 of these requires confirmation. The material was collected during occasional research between 1997 and 1999. A review of publications with distributional data is included. Key words: Abruzzo National Park, Megaloptera, Raphidioptera, Neuroptera, Italy INTRODUCTION Dr. F. TASSI (Abruzzo National Park) started Biodiversity Project in 1993. This project is one of the new lines of conservation activity, environmental educa- tion and scientific research of the Abruzzo National Park and its satellite organiza- tions, and in particular of the Apennine Centre for Ecological Research and of the National Parks Committee. Biodiversity Project sets itself a series of multiple aims: I. Promoting in-depth studies and knowledge of the richness, variety and sta- tus of the fauna and flora of the Park, of the Central Apennine system of protected areas and, in a wider perspective, of the rest of Italy, with special reference to the National Parks and Equivalent Reserves. II. Developing the most effective methods of communication, expression and information to enhance public knowledge, perception and participation in conser- vation activities. -

March 2019 Alasdair Lemon and Suzanne Burgess Saving the small things that run the planet Summary Forty of the 70 UK species of lacewing are recorded in Scotland, with four only being recorded in Scotland. The Bordered brown lacewing (Megalomus hirtus) is currently only known from two sites in Scotland, Holyrood Park Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in Edinburgh and near Muchalls in Aberdeenshire. The record from Muchalls from 2018 is the first record of the Bordered brown lacewing at this site since 1916. Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) provided funding to Buglife through the Bordered Brown Lacewing project to run surveys and workshops to raise awareness and improve participant’s identification skills of the different species of lacewing and their allies (alderflies, scorpionflies and snake flies). This project successfully found the Bordered brown lacewing at Holyrood Park SSSI with the help of volunteers. Fourteen adults were recorded during two and a half survey days in June from Salisbury Crag. A total of 80 species of invertebrate were recorded during surveys and workshops run through this project from four sites, Holyrood Park SSSI, Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill LNR, St Cyrus NNR and Hogganfield Park. Sixty people were engaged in surveys and training workshops that raised awareness of the diversity of lacewings and their allies, how to monitor and record these groups, with a focus on the Bordered brown lacewing. Recommendations are provided within this report on future surveys and habitat management to ensure the long term survival of this species in Scotland. Contents Page Page 1. This report seeks committee approval for the Edinburgh Biodiversity Action Plan Phase 4 2016-2018. The updated Action Plan details the actions that partners have signed up to, which will benefit the natural environment by increasing biodiversity and raising awareness of biodiversity across the city. One of them consisted of three sub- populations found within a few hundred meters, and two of them with very few individuals only. Exchanges among the three subpopulations were not investigated but seem likely. Analysis of the cur- rent land use suggests that date of mowing is crucial for the survival of L. coccajus. Mechanical de- struction of egg clutches can be avoided by mowing at the beginning of August or later. Comparison of old and recent maps (1880–2006) of all the surveyed areas revealed that the most frequent change was the replacement of vineyards by grassland.
