The Lizzie Collection The Lizzie Collection is a rare, unique and personal assemblage of the most valuable and sought after Indianapolis Motor Speedway pit badges and race programs. Highlights of the collection are: •1941 program, the last race with two winners and last race before the track closed due to World War II. •1961 pit badge, program, and press book; Golden Anniversary event won by A.J. Foyt. •All four programs from A.J. Jim Wade, we all hope for your quick and healthy recovery . I would also like to convey our sympathy to Pat Roney and family for the loss of his brother. Jon Thorn is continuing putting the information together about the history of the club. He has put together the first five years and continues his research and enthusiasm to make the club known to all as a club with the first roots. Paul from radial tire gave an excellent lesson on tire care, the differences and types, and why it is so impor- tant to use the correct one. He also donated a certificate of five hundred dollars to the lucky person with the right numbers. The club is coming even closer to the 2014 NCM Caravan leaving on the 23 of August. We will be starting off at Sport Chevrolet for the send off breakfast before taking to the road. I am looking forward to the event. Sport Chevrolet made a very generous donation to the cause. Jon Thorn and Ron Hamrah will be heading this event. Any questions or information should be directed to them. Corvettes at Carlisle is running right at the same time as the start of the caravan to the NCM. I need to know how many members will be attending so I can give the number to JoAnne at Carlisle. This is especially evident in recent years. The 1996 “split” between the Indy Racing League (IRL; later, the IndyCar Series) and Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART; later the Champ Car World Series) severely hurt the sport. Following the split there was a well-documented decline in fan interest from which the sport has not recovered. Less understood, however, is that under the Indy Racing League the Indianapolis 500, the premier event in open-wheeled racing in the United States, became more competitive. Ironically, while fan interest decreased in the Indy Racing League era, the quality of racing increased. The increased competition associated with the Indy Racing League is a historically significant development that bodes well for the future of the sport.

George, President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, members of the Hulman family and the entire Speedway staff welcome you to the start of the 79th running of the annual Indianapolis 500- Mile Race. Order of the Day: 5:00 a.m.(EST)-- Military bomb signaling opening of the gates. 8:00 a.m. -- Spectacle of bands, race cars positioned in front of respective pits. 9:45 a.m. -- Cars placed in starting positions as Purdue University Band plays "On the Banks of the Wabash." 9:58 a.m. -- Vintage race car lap. 10:00 a.m. -- Featured events, presentations, introductions. 10:05 a.m. -- Festival celebrity caravan lap, followed by Sheriff's Motorcycle Drill Team. 10:15 a.m. -- Engine warmup. 10:23 a.m. -- Engine warmup completed. 10:24 a.m. -- "America the Beautiful," Purdue University Band. 10:26 a.m. -- "Stars and Stripes Forever," Purdue University Band. 10:30 a.m. -- Final track inspection. 10:42 a.m. -- National Anthem, sung by Florence Henderson. 10:45 a.m. -- Invocation by Archbishop Daniel M. Buechlien, Indianapolis Catholic Archdiocese. 10:47 a.m. -- Taps, combined U.S. Armed Forces Color Guard pays homage on this Memorial Day weekend to our veterans. 10:48 a.m. -- Flyover (B-17 and four-ship P-51 formation). 10:49 a.m. -- "Back Home Again in Indiana," sung by Jim Nabors with Purdue University Band and traditional balloon spectacle. 10:51 a.m. -- Starting command. 10:52 a.m. -- 1995 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car, Driven by Jim Perkins, leads the field on three laps prior to the start, two parade laps and the official pace lap.
