Classic Dog Show Up-Date A huge ‘Welcome’ to the 67th Classic Dog Show as conducted by the Classic Dog Show Committee, a sub-committee of dogs Victoria and we trust you will have an enjoyable day with us. This will be an unusual show, being one of the early 2021 championship all breeds shows being run under COVIDSAFE rules. We ask everyone to be cooperative, remain positive, and be respectful and safe towards each other. We welcome "Royal Canin" as a sponsor and trust they enjoy their day with us. For the new exhibitor (and a reminder for those who have been around for a while) the Classic Dog Show Committee was established in 1955 by the then KCC with the specific aim to raise funds to provide facilities and amenities for the benefit of members, exhibitors and affiliates. With the enormous support of members, affiliates and sponsors, this committee to-date has raised in excess of $350,000. Initially, contributions were made to the Royal Showgrounds where we were domiciled for many, many years. Then, as KCC park was being developed, the Classic gave $2,000 to start the KCC Park Committee. Subsequently, very substantial donations were made for the construction of the ‘Classic Room’, walls of the Boxhall Pavilion, folding doors and funding for the ‘Classic Food Court’. The Classic Dog Show Committee has donated several glass display/storage cabinets for the Library and Museum, a stove replacement, cabinets and painting of the ‘KCC Park Classic Room’, five of the concrete slabs & shade canopies at The Park, six wall mounted hand dryers, new tiles and labour for the Classic Toilet Block up-grades and provided the money for the provision of two defibrillators (with training) to be located at KCC Park and BULLA Canine Exhibition Centre. Most recently, the Classic Dog Show Committee has donated a considerable amount (over $20000) to facilitate the refurbishment and necessary maintenance projects to improve the Classic Room above the Office and toilet block. Also, over the years notable fund raising achievements have assisted the victims of the 1983 Bush Fires and the rebuilding of the ‘Dogs NT’ rooms following Cyclone Tracey and very significant financial contributions were made to the VCA Bushfire Relief Fund following ‘Black Saturday’ in 2009 and then again in 2011 to the Dogs Qld ‘Members’ Flood Relief Appeal’.

Such rhetoric emerges in almost every programmatic text written by Russian politicians, as well as in every forecast and policy analysis prepared by Russian state-affiliated think-tanks. Most western observers perceive this as a question of foreign policy and treat Russia’s claims with suspicion. At a closer look, however, it becomes evident that, instead of having an exclusive connection to foreign policy, Russia’s great power discourse is self-centered, defensive, ideological, and relates equally, if not more, to the causes of Russian domestic consolidation and catch up development. In this study, I argue that the origins of this inherent ambivalence and specific functions of Russia’s great power discourse should be sought in the conceptual evolution of velikaya derzhava, a Russian political concept that is usually translated as ‘great power’. In its current shape, velikaya derzhava is a product of both the evolution of local political culture, and Russia’s discursive encounters with external political environment, the most consequential of which was Russia’s lengthy and troubled integration into the European society of states in the XVIII and the XIX centuries.
