The Volunteer Involvement Programme (VIP) allows employees to apply for a grant for an organisation where either they, or a family member, is a volunteer. The grants are awarded based on the number of voluntary hours undertaken. The School Governor Scheme works in a similar way, allowing employees who volunteer in these roles to apply for a grant for their school. -

A PARENT’S GUIDE TO IN-YEAR SCHOOL ADMISSIONS 2018/2019 Published September 2018 1 INTRODUCTION This guide is designed to assist you in applying for a school place in the Wokingham borough in-year. An ‘in-year application’ is used when you are applying for an already established year group i.e. years 1 - 6 and 8 – 11. This also includes F2 Reception, year 3 in a junior school and Year 7 for applications made after 1 September when the co-ordinated admissions scheme for the allocation to these year groups has closed. This is also known as ‘mid-phase’ or ‘casual’ admissions by some schools and local authorities. In-year applications are centrally co-ordinated by the School Admissions Team at Wokingham Borough Council. If you wish to apply for a school in the Wokingham borough, please complete the in-year application form available at www.wokingham.gov.uk/admissions. Exceptions apply; if parents wish to apply for a place at Earley St Peter’s CE Aided Primary School, Nine Mile Ride Primary School, St Crispin’s School or Bohunt School, parents should apply direct to the school using the single preference application form available from the school, as the school has opted to manage its own in-year applications. The school will notify the school admissions team that an application has been received and the outcome of that application. If you are moving to the borough, we will require sight of evidence of the move e.g. signed rental agreement or exchange of contract, plus evidence of disposal of the previous property if a local move (within approximately 20 miles) as this can affect the criterion your application is considered under. -

THE FARNBOROUGH SOCIETY preserving the past, shaping the future Newsletter: Issue 15 February 2016 RECENT EVENTS Recycling: The Never-ending Story with Ruth Whaymand We were delighted to welcome Ruth along to tell us what more we can all do to boost Rushmoor’s poor recycling rate. She gave a very informative and self-assured presentation, and it was clear that the audience had a real determination to understand the problems and to make sure they were doing all they could personally to improve matters. Ruth began by outlining the service currently provided: weekly general waste; fortnightly recycling, glass and garden waste; bulky waste upon request, and charged; clinical waste weekly/on request. She emphasised that the quality of the collection service is very high, even in severe weather, when RBC uses a 4-wheel drive vehicle with snow plough to reach more inaccessible areas. Rushmoor’s collection cost, at £54 per household, is the highest in Hampshire, mainly due to the retention of weekly general waste collection. At the same time, we achieve only 26% recycling, placing us firmly in the bottom quartile nationally, which leaves us woefully short of the 40% target that was set by the Government to be achieved by 2010 and even farther adrift of the 67% target by 2015 set by Waste Strategy 2000. At the moment, therefore, it looks extremely unlikely that we will achieve the target set by the EU of 50% by 2020 and failure will incur penalties against RBC. Ruth went on to explain the ‘waste hierarchy’ which aims to reduce the amount of waste going to the incinerator. -

The previous ISI inspection was in May 2008. The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) is the body approved by the Secretary of State for the purpose of inspecting schools belonging to the Independent Schools Council (ISC) Associations and reporting on compliance with the Education (Independent School Standards) (England) Regulations 2010, as amended. The range of these Regulations, which replace those first introduced on 1 September 2003, can be viewed on the website www.legislation.gov.uk. Additionally, inspections will consider the school’s accessibility plan under Schedule 10 of the Equality Act 2010 and the ban on corporal punishment introduced by the School Standards and Framework Act 1998. The inspection was also carried out under the arrangements of the ISC Associations for the maintenance and improvement of the quality of their membership. The inspection of the school is from an educational perspective and provides limited inspection of other aspects, although inspectors comment on any significant hazards or problems they encounter which have an adverse impact on children. -

This Strategy focusses on the built sports infrastructure and is complemented by a separate Playing Pitch Strategy. The Strategy is informed by a Leisure and Recreation Needs Assessment of the borough’s indoor and outdoor facilities undertaken during 2014-15, and uses the research, consultation, site assessments, data analysis and mapping that underpins the study to set direction and determine priorities. The intention is that it will help to focus investment and add certainty with regard to areas for targeted support and future programmes. The aspirations in this Strategy will rely on securing funding from a range of sources including developers, National Governing Bodies of sport, national and local grant giving bodies, local sports organisations and the council’s various grants programmes, as relevant. -
