See the wedding dress worn by Lela McDowell in 1880 when she married William Bird; the fur coat made by Frank Glossop for his wife Olga from the minks he raised on his Beverly farm; the jacket worn by Bernie Deys when he was a member of the Beverly Fire Department; sports memorabilia; as well as the many coal mining artifacts on display as "Beverly was Built on Coal". BEVERLY HISTORICAL SOCIETY: Historical Tour of Olde Towne Beverly via Horse-Drawn Carriage Beverly Memorial Cenotaph Park, 4001 - 118 Avenue, Edmonton 780-413-6244; [email protected] www.beverly-history.com

Starting at one of the city of Edmonton's historic resources, the Beverly Memorial Cenotaph (4001-118 Avenue), the oldest Cenotaph in Alberta, the tour winds its way through Olde Towne Beverly, alternating tours of either north or south Beverly, with tour guides citing important landmarks and stories of the area over the past century. Each tour is approximately 45 minutes. On Tuesday, in addition to the tours, attend the Beverly Farmers' Market, either before or after the tours. The Prince of Wales Armouries and City Archives are recently re-opened after construction. Dr. Woods House Museum is a fully restored 1927 Craftsman-style bungalow. The house is fully furnished with lovely antiques and vintage items similar to when the Woods family lived there from 1927 to 1936. It is a wonderful representation of the era. Dr. Woods was a pioneer doctor in Leduc. The attached medical wing has been fully preserved. To celebrate Canada Day on July 1, 2019, enjoy "Free Ice cream" at the Dr. Woods House Museum. Come join us for a bus trip to the Cooking Lake Airport, Canada's oldest operating public airport, where you will hear interesting stories about lost gold mines, the Red Baron, Arctic airmail contracts, WW2 and legends such as , Will Rogers and Max Ward. Then we will drive over to the Frontiersmen War Memorial, the only one of its kind in Canada commemorating the Legion of Frontiersmen War Veterans. Next, we will be treated to a delicious lunch at the Moonshine Café in Tofield. In the afternoon we will visit Maggie's Hill Heritage Loghouse. It is the oldest property in Strathcona County (built in 1890) and was settled by one of the first Métis settlers in the area. When his daughter Maggie married a Scottish railway man, he gifted the loghouse to them as a wedding gift. Together Maggie and John raised 9 children in a 600 sq. foot log house. Sitting on a hill overlooking Hastings Lake, the property soon became known as Maggie's Hill. We will also have an opportunity to walk the ancient forest and trails in the area.
