Australian Over 60S Cricket Team Tour of the United Kingdom July Australian Over 60s Cricket Team Tour of the Unite d Kingdom July/August 2012 Tour Report and Player Statistics Abridged to Tour Summary and Test & International Matches August 2012 The Australian Over 60s Cricket Team Tour of UK 2012 – Tour Report The Team Gill Chapman, Nev Kratzmann, Dennis Moran, John Fryer, Paul Cullen, Brian Walters, Geoff Field, Colin Cooke, Tony Paterson, Ron Kasputtis Rob Haling, Brain Kratzmann, Peter Virgen, Stirling Hamman (Captain), Ross Chapman (V Captain & Manager), Albert Barwick, Ian Pritchard, Peter Harrison Page 2 of 39 The Australian Over 60s Cricket Team Tour of UK 2012 – Tour Report Forward by Stirling Hamman Further to Nev Kratzmann's suggestion that we embark on a tour to England and Wales back in Armidale at the National Over 60s Titles in November 2011 the wheels were put in motion for such an event. Following 6 months of planning which included the selection of an 18 man squad and a crowded itinerary of 16 games in 19 days we were ready to begin the adventure of a life time on 14 July 2012 for 3 weeks. And so it turned out to be! Unfortunately John and Margaret Fryer were required to return home after just 2 days due a serious fall by John's mother back in Newcastle but their decision to fly back was totally vindicated. Having said that John and Margaret were greatly missed both on and off the park especially as John had produced our superb tour brochure and had completed many pre- tour tasks as well as top scoring in our opening game vs. Somerset. We arrived after the locals had experienced the most summer rainfall in recorded history with many games cancelled and grounds under water from the continuous deluge. Fortunately it largely stopped raining for our visit and we played 14 out of our 16 scheduled matches. In those 14 contests we won 5 and lost 9 however we lost 5 of those games in the last over and a further 2 by 31 and 12 runs respectively. In all of these close finishes we created catching opportunities to win the game but were not able to secure the result. It was a marvellous performance by a team who had not played together before and a tribute to their dedication, enthusiasm and resilience to fight back despite the frustrating results and the weariness and injury factors which are ever present at our age. By any measure it was a highly successful tour and an immensely enjoyable one. We have everlasting memories of the games and places we visited as well as the post match dinners we attended resplendent in our National Blazers. Every game was a highlight for me. Permanent friendships within our team and the opposition were forged as a result of our campaign. The English and Welsh hospitality was overwhelming and every County invited us to return and do it all again in 2014. In conclusion I wish to personally thank every member both male and female of our touring party who did so much to make our make our cricket touring experience an unforgettable happy and pleasurable one. In particular I wish to acknowledge the efforts of Manager Ross Chapman and Peter Harrison for compiling the tour statistics; match reports and producing this tour book. Special mention goes to Dawn Paterson who on tour tirelessly compiled each game’s mementos; attended to countless secretarial duties and captured hundreds of cricket photos of our team in action. Similarly Paul Cullen's home video of the tour will be well worth the wait. Thank you and well done everyone. I hope reading this book and viewing the hundreds of photos captured on tour will ignite our memory bank for many years to come! Stirling Hamman Captain, Australian Over 60s, UK Tour 2012. 25th August 2012 Page 3 of 39 The Australian Over 60s Cricket Team Tour of UK 2012 – Tour Report Acknowledgement No tour can take place without someone taking charge and doing the organising. All players and supporters wish to acknowledge the excellent work that Stirling Hamman did in this regard. Stirling’s positive approach right from the start in organising the whole tour, players’ mental and physical preparations pre-tour and leadership both on and off the field whilst on tour was exemplary. In all matches he led from the front and this enabled us to play with confidence and belief that we could win. This we did in five of our matches and it could have been five more! A Test victory must be just around the corner and whenever that comes along, it will be due in part to Stirling’s leadership on the 2012 Tour to the United Kingdom. Well done, Stirlo! • 2016 Annual Dinner Report 10102016
! Keeping you connected … 2016 OCTOBER DINNER NEWSLETTER ! Geoff Miller returns to standing ovation ONE of Cheshire’s best-known former players Geoff Miller OBE proved to be one of the finest speakers of recent years at the League’s 42nd annual Presentation Dinner at The Mere on Friday, October 7. Addressing a league audience for the third time – he did so previously in 1985 at the Cresta Court, Altrincham and in 2003 at Mere, Geoff enraptured the240-strong assembly with wonderful tales of his times playing for Derbyshire, Essex and England, for whom he gained 36 caps between 1976 and 1984. Appointed OBE in 2011 after becoming the first England National selector, Geoff, now 64, dealt hilariously with his ‘mostly modest’ contributions to the game, starting with a duck on his debut for Derbyshire against Lancashire at snowbound Buxton in 1975 He played four seasons with Cheshire from 1991-94 and was appointed a life member for services which brought 907 runs and 153 wickets. Saying how much he had enjoyed a career spanning more than 40 years, the Chesterfield man introduced a serious note when he praised the work being done in the game’s grass roots such as in Cheshire. ‘Our wonderful game’ must be maintained He said: “You good people here are what cricket is all about. You must help maintain our great sport in schools and clubs, through the Minor Counties and into the first-class game. I am told your clubs in Cheshire are helping young players graduate into county cricket, so you are obviously doing your bit.” Geoff Miller earned a standing ovation from an audience drawn from all clubs in the league except absentees Alvanley, Cheadle, Congleton and Middlewich.

SURREY CRICKET FOUNDATION OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO CRICKET AWARDS 2017 1 FOREWORD BY PAUL TAYLOR Director of Cricket Participation I would like to welcome you all to Surrey County Cricket Club and the Kia Oval for the 2017 OSCAs. This is the 10th time we have run the OSCAs and we continue to be amazed by the quality of the nominations. This year we received a high number of nominations – a reflection of all the hard work that goes on throughout the County. Reading through the nominations reinforces just how important volunteers are to the game in Surrey. From preparing the pitches to making the teas, organising teams to managing extensive facility development projects, the often countless hours of volunteering invested into the club network in Surrey makes a real difference. I would like to take a moment to thank our award sponsors: Pitchero, Hardys Wines, i-view London, Reeds, Hamro and Fieldbox - their support of this event is much appreciated by the Surrey Cricket Foundation. Today is a celebration and an opportunity for us to say thank you to each and every one of you who have helped to make the game of cricket what it is today. Please enjoy the game, enjoy the hospitality, and join us in rewarding some incredible people. It is people like you who make the game so special. Thank you and I hope you have a great day. • NEWSLETTER No
THE HAMPSHIRE CRICKET SOCIETY Patrons: John Woodcock Frank Bailey Shaun Udal NEWSLETTER No. 307 - MARCH 2011 MEETINGS Wednesday 9 March 2011 – Meeting The speaker for this evening will be Geoff Cook who has enjoyed two distinct careers. The first was as a highly accomplished opening batsman for Northamptonshire who gained Test recognition. The second, of course, has been that of a highly influential figure in Durham‟s latent irresistible rise. GEOFFREY COOK was born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, on 9 October 1951. Educated at Middlesbrough High School, he became one of a number of men from the North East to migrate south to play county cricket. Those who played for Northamptonshire included Colin Milburn and Peter Willey. He made his Northants debut in 1971 and received his county cap in 1975, when he passed 1,000 runs in a season for the first time. He was to reach that landmark on twelve occasions, his best summer being 1981 – his first year as county captain – when he scored 1759 runs (avge. 43.97). He was chosen for the England tour to India and Sri Lanka in the following winter. Typically cultured centuries at Indore and Kandy took him into the England team for the inaugural Test against Sri Lanka at Colombo – an auspicious occasion on which to make a Test debut. He retained his place for the three Tests against India in the ensuing summer, making 66 at Old Trafford, during which he shared an opening stand of 106 with Chris Tavare, and 50 at The Oval. However, he then lost his place for the three Test series against Pakistan, as England experimented with Derek Randall in an opening batsman‟s role.
