The members of Transfera.cz protect the interests of the transfer community in the Czech Rebublic and take part in the development of technology and knowledge transfer. We are united by our belief that besides education and basic research – which represent an integral part of the role of universities and research institutions – there is a broad array of research with an applica- tion potential which should, in layman‘s terms, „get out of labs and be put into practice“. Developing social and economic impact of research results is another way science can contribute to the society and spread the good name of the given academic institution. While making every effort to provide a comprehensive list, this handbook cannot have the ambition to compare the performance of the individual technology transfer offices, mainly because the offices are parts of larger institutions. They focus on various fields and their competencies differ, as well as the way data are processed at the individual parent institu- tions. Therefore, the numbers and the charts that you will find in this brochure represent the performance of the parent institutions to which the transfer offices contribute. We believe this handbook will be one of the tools which will, by providing a basic overview of the transfer offices, help interconnect universities and research institutions with commercial companies or public administration as well as the transfer offices among themselves. At the same time, it can serve as a report on the current position of tech- nology and knowledge transfer in the Czech Republic and the ways it can be advanced and developed. With the ever-increasing stress the state puts on applied research and innovations, it definitely poses a challenge we shall address in our future endeavours.
