Press Release 1 August 2021
Press Release 1 August 2021 Interim report 2, 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) Porsche customer team KCMG still on course for a top result Stuttgart. After an eventful night, Porsche is within striking distance of the leading pack with the 911 GT3 R fielded by the customer team KCMG at the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps. The No. 47 car driven by Maxime Martin, his Belgian compatriot Laurens Vanthoor and Britain’s Nick Tandy is currently running in fifth place after 18 hours. After 370 laps on the 7.004-kilometre Grand Prix circuit, the vehicle is just one lap behind the leader. The second best nine-eleven with KCMG drivers Josh Burdon (Australia), Alexandere Imperatori (Switzerland) and Edoardo Liberati (Italy) ranks eleventh. An unfortunate caution phase around midnight cost the armada of 911 GT3 R the direct contact to the leading vehicles. This was followed by a streak of bad luck, which knocked many of the 500+PS sports cars from Weissach out of contention. At around 3am, the No. 22 entry from GPX Racing had to pit for repairs due to a steering problem. At about 5.30am, the car shared by Earl Bamber (New Zealand) and the works driver Matt Campbell (Australia) and Mathieu Jaminet (France) pulled out. Over long stretches during the night, Schnabl Engineering’s 911 GT3 R took over the role as the leading Porsche and maintained a steady pace among the top ten. Shortly before 4am, however, the car came into contact with another vehicle at the entrance to Eau Rouge, heralding an early end for Michael Christensen (Denmark), Dennis Olsen (Norway) and the French works driver Frédéric Makowiecki. -
Audi in the Role of the Hunter at the Norisring
Communications Motorsport Jürgen Pippig Telephone: +49 (0)841 89 34200 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi-motorsport.info Audi in the role of the hunter at the Norisring • Grid positions four, five and six at the DTM home round • Extremely small time gaps in qualifying • Martin Tomczyk best Audi driver Ingolstadt/Nuremberg, July 3, 2010 – Audi will start into Sunday’s DTM race at the Norisring in the role of the hunter. On the so far hottest day of the year Martin Tomczyk, Mattias Ekström and Oliver Jarvis (all from Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline) clinched grid positions four, five and six for Audi. The merely 2.3-kilometer city street circuit between the Dutzendteich lake and the Frankenstadion sports arena has always been difficult territory for the Audi A4 DTM. And this time again the Audi drivers are facing an extremely demanding task. “Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to work out a better starting base for the race,” commented Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich after the qualifying sessions. “At the Norisring, simply everything has got to perfectly fit together – and that wasn’t the case with us today. But everything is still possible from rows two and three on the grid.” After posting the fastest times in both free practice sessions the Audi drivers suggested the potential of the Audi A4 DTM at the Norisring in qualifying as well. Mattias Ekström at 48.334s managed to set the absolutely fastest time of the whole qualifying in the second segment (Q2). Posting a time of 48.379s, Martin Tomczyk in second place in Q3 was just a blink slower. -

Making History at Le Mans with Porsche: Hubauto Racing’S Morris Chen Interview
Making history at Le Mans with Porsche: HubAuto Racing’s Morris Chen interview One of Porsche’s many legacies in motorsport is its unwavering success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Over the years, the German marque has secured the most victories, podiums and pole positions of any manufacturer, and claimed many other accolades including the longest winning streak. In 2021, Porsche will make Le Mans history yet again. Taipei-based HubAuto Racing will become the frst Asian team to compete in the LMGTE Pro class when the famous tricolore drops on Saturday afernoon to mark the start of the 89th running of the legendary event. The Pro category has generally been reserved for factory outfts, such as the Porsche GT Team operated by Manthey Racing, with customer teams traditionally competing in LMGTE Am. But this bucking of the trend signals a statement of intent to compete with the best of the best. Founder and Team Principal Morris Chen said he is “immensely proud” of the eforts his team has put in. “What started as a dream has now become a reality,” he added. “We are looking forward to a very competitive race and strong results. We also need to bear in mind our history with Porsche. This strong relationship ensures we are very confdent of taking on the challenges of Le Mans in the Porsche 911 RSR. How remarkable would it be to achieve a podium result and create Porsche Motorsport history for the Asian region?” A racer himself, Morris knows what it takes to be successful. His time with Porsche stretches back to 2017 where he occupied a seat in one of the two Porsche 911 GT3 R HubAuto Racing entered in China GT. -
