Impact testing information for students in grades 6-8

If enrolled in a sport, or sports-related enrichment class, students in grades 6-8 must meet the prerequisites for student participation as set forth by the Hanover School Committee: Current physical examination (within 13 months). Baseline ImPACT Test testing date will be Thursday 1/2 and Friday 1/3 at 2:30pm at HMS.

Payment Information

Payments should not be made until an email confirmation of class enrollment has been received from our office. Class confirmation emails will contain a link to our online payment center. Class fees can be paid online using a check or credit card. Please note that fees apply as posted on UniBank. Your student may hand in payments by check to the enrichment coordinator employee on the first day of the class. A full credit will be issued to students who withdraw from a course prior to the start date. Students who withdraw following the first class will receive a partial credit equal to the cost of the remaining class. Please note that in order for your student to participate in an enrichment program, all outstanding before and after school program balances and/or enrichment balances must be brought current.

General Registration Information

Registrations must be completed online. If the number of registered students exceeds class size, enrollment is determined by order of registration. Classes that do not meet the minimum enrollment requirements will be canceled. Notification of class confirmation or cancellation, including specific class information and payment instructions, will be sent by email.

Indoor Track Mr. Peter & Mr. Paul Economos

Cross Country and Track & Field coaches Pete Arena and Paul Economos return for the winter with Hanover Middle School’s third session of Indoor Track! Indoor Track is a skills and drills-based program that introduces and prepares participants for our outdoor Track & Field season in the spring. Through whole group and individualized coaching, participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice both running and field events. This program focuses on good running form and learning proper techniques for sprinting, long distance running, hurdling, shot put and standing long jump. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their skills at the Northeast Indoor Classic Meet for Middle Schoolers, held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in on Sunday, March 1st.

No prior experience with running or Track & Field is necessary to join. All ability levels are welcome. This program is open to students in grades 5 through 8. We look forward to expanding our Hanover Middle School year-round running programs. We hope to see you there!

This class will take place at the Starland Sportsplex in Hanover. Transportation will be provided to Starland. Parents/Guardians are expected to pick up their students on site at Starland.

Join Hanover High School Swim Team Coach Barbara Toohey and the HMS Swim Club on Tuesdays at Healthtrax Fitness & Wellness in Hanover. The goal of this program is to provide swimmers with an opportunity to improve strokes and develop strength and endurance. You will get a workout!

Requirements:

Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle and 25 yards backstroke Swimmers must provide their own goggles, swim and swim suit If swimmers are not found to be at the appropriate swim level, coaches reserve the right to restrict their participation.

The Office of Family & Community Engagement is pleased to offer private vocal and instrumental lessons for 5th – 12th grade students. Private lessons are a great opportunity for students to explore a new instrument, improve performance skills, develop musicianship and achieve a greater sense of enjoyment and accomplishment of their instrument. Lessons will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the Music Wing of Hanover High School.

Semester 2 will be held during the weeks of January 6th – May 8th (16 weeks).

There is an annual registration fee of $35 per student, or $50 per family annually. Tuition charges are payable in full for the session in advance of the first scheduled lesson.

Mr. Matthew Wan Trombone, Euphonium, & Tuba Thursdays 4:30pm–8:00pm

A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Mr. Wan performed in Conservatory’s Youth Philharmonic and Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble, Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan District Commission Show Band. After graduating from Randolph High School, he became the only New England recipient of Coca–Cola’s Johnston Legacy Scholarship. Mr. Wan received both his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from the Boston Conservatory and most recently, his Doctorate of Musical Arts from Boston University. Aside from performing in local orchestras and new music groups, Mr. Wan was a finalist in the American Trom- bone Workshop Solo Competition in Washington, D.C. This past summer, his trombone quartet went on tour in Asia with performances around China as well as being awarded third prize at the Beijing International Chamber Competition. As an educator, Mr. Wan has been involved with New England Conservatory’s Youth Orchestras, Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra programs and on staff at Boston University for music minors and non-major trombone study. He also teaches beginner to pre-college students in the Boston area. In the summer, Mr. Wan performs and presents master classes at the BUTI Trombone Workshop, a part of Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute for talented young trombonists.

Ms. Juliana Anderson Vocal Tuesdays 4:30pm–8:00pm Ms. Anderson, Mezzo-soprano, was last seen performing on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House in NYC where she has been a member of the Extra Chorus since 2000. She has performed with such companies as L’Opéra de Montréal, Florida Grand Opera, Sarasota Opera and received the honor of being a featured soloist on two separate occasions as Carnegie Hall with Musica Sacra and MidAmerica Productions. Ms. Anderson has also been heard in many recital and concert settings in the area as well as been a member of the Atlanta and Chicago Symphony choruses where she was under the baton of the late Robert Shaw and Sir Georg Solti, respec- tively. She now resides in North Easton, MA teaching private voice lessons at her own studio. Previously, she was at the Walsh School for the Performing Arts via the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School. Presently, MS. An- derson teaches music and chorus at the G. G. Mitchell Middle School in East Bridgewater and is a member on the faculty at in Worcester. Ms. Anderson is thrilled to join the illustratious music faculty in Hanover.

Mr. Eric sheppard Drums Tuesdays 4:30pm–8:00pm Eric Sheppard began playing drums at the age of 9, focusing on both the rock and metal genres. Playing for multiple bands in these styles as well as hip hop acts, Eric has many years of experience as a live performer. Eric is also a studio drummer, playing on more than 25 recordings. Some of these tracks have been featured on WAAF and WZLX. Eric’s teaching style mirrors that of his former drum instructor, Michael Monteiga, who made learning fun and exciting while also providing a challenge. Mr. Jeffrey Popadic Trumpet & Brass Mondays 4:30pm–8:00pm Jeffrey Popadic enjoys a busy career as a performer and music educator. As a member of the acclaimed Epic Brass Quintet he has toured extensively across the United States. He can be heard performing trumpet with diverse groups such as the Plymouth Philharmonic, Rhode Island Philharmonic, New Bedford Symphony, Orchestra of Indian Hill, Boston Lyric Opera, National Lyric Opera, Alea III, Innovata Brass and in theatre venues. Jeffrey has performed with the Monadnock Music Festival and the Great Waters Music Festival. As a soloist he has appeared with the Civic Symphony of Boston. As an educator, Jeffrey teaches music in the Rockland, MA Public Schools. Other teaching appointments have included the Mansfield, MA Public Schools; master classes at Sharon High School; Boston University; University of Massachusetts, Boston; the Indian Hill School of Music; Groton School; Epic Brass Summer Institute; as well as private instruction with the Foxborough and Blackstone-Millville school districts as well as a private studio. Jeffrey has performed hundreds of educational concerts and has appeared as a clinician in master classes at high schools and colleges throughout the country. Jeffrey holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in brass performance from Boston University, where he studied with the late Boston Symphony Orchestra principal trumpet Roger Voisin and members of the Empire Brass Quintet.

Ms. Alana Sennett Flute & Vocal Mondays 4:30pm–8:00pm Alana Sennett started singing at age 3. Alana went on to become a distinguished member of the Hanover High School band playing principal flute for the concert band and doubling on principal trombone for marching band. She has experience playing flute with both the SEMSBA and District bands. During her time at Hanover High school, Alana became a founding member of the Hanover Mad Jazz choir. Alana then went on to study music at where she won the Smith College Concerto competition with the Nielsen Flute Concerto. She also studied voice at Smith College, participating in the Glee club as a section leader. Alana is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in education and spends her spare time performing and writing music.

Mr. Alex Sennett Guitar, Bass, Piano, & Saxophone Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 4:30pm–8:00pm Alex Sennett began playing music at the age of 6, and moved on to study Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music, where he was a member of the Berklee Bob Marley Ensemble, The Berklee Funk/Soul Review Ensemble, and the Berklee Acoustic Blues Ensemble. Growing up, Alex was a student at Hanover Public Schools. He has studied with many of the teachers that still teach today. He has experience working with the Performance Troupe, and also has experience playing in select District and SEMSBA festivals. Throughout high school, Alex was a section leader in the marching band, and also played lead alto saxophone in the award winning jazz band. Alex’s primary instrument is guitar, however he can also teach Bass, Piano, and Saxophone. Mr. Michael Wade Vocal Wednesdays 4:30pm–8:00pm Michael Wade is currently the Director of Choral Activities for the Hanover Public Schools where he teachers choirs grades 5–12. He received his Masters of Music at Indiana University. While there he served as an Associate Instructor, studying and conducting with Betsy Burleigh, Dominick DiOrio and Walter Huff and voice with Brian Gill. He received his Bachelor’s of Music in Music EDucation from Ithaca College with concentrations in piano and voice. As a baritone, he performs regularly with the professions chamber chorus The Brookline Consort based out of Brookline, MA. He is passionate about collaborating with others and enjoys working as a vocal coach and accompanist in his spare time in addition to maintaining a small private studio teaching piano and voice.

Ms. Michelle Sennett Flute Thursdays 4:30pm–8:00pm

Michelle Sennett is a licensed music educator and a board certified music therapist. She has worked as the music therapist in the Brockton Public Schools since 2001. Michelle has been teaching private flute lessons for approximately 25 years, with the last 15 of those years being right here in Hanover. She has played with the Southeastern Massachusetts Wind Symphony, currently plays with the Rusty Skippers Band and regularly accompanies the Snug Harbor Chorus with her flute. She has adjudicated the senior flutes for the Southeastern Massachusetts Band Masters Association (SEMSBA) competition for the last five years. Michelle received her Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Minnesota, her preliminary license in music education from Bridgewater State University and her Masters of Education from Fitchburg State University. Student Absences

Student absences from lessons wills be excused and a make-up lesson scheduled with no additional charge for the following reasons:

School Cancellation Teacher Absence Pre-notified conflict with a required HPS music ensemble event 24-hour notification of absence (one per semester)

All absences must be reported to our office at (781) 826-3574. In these instances, the lesson will be made up at the end of the semester. Absences due to illness will be handled on an individual basis. Absence involving a major injury that affects the ability to play/sing or a prolonged illness will be handled on an individual basis. The teachers are professionals and with advanced notice will try to accommodate student schedule changes as their schedule allows.

Teacher Absences

Lessons missed for a teacher absence will be rescheduled during the semester. If a lesson is not made up, it will be credited to the following semester.

Student Withdrawal

Students may withdraw at the end of the semester. If a withdrawal is due to injury or prolonged illness, a refund of the unused tuition may be requested. Refunds will not be made after the second lesson of the semester.
