The 4 Pillars of Girl Scouting

STEM Through Girl Scout STEM programs, girls imagine brighter futures for themselves, their communities and the planet. Studies show that girls are excited about STEM – especially when it comes to making the world a better place. In 2020, several GSofSI robotics teams won awards in the FIRST LEGO League competition and five teams advanced to the state tournament! At the state championship, SWAT from Troy won the Project Research Award.

Life Skills Girl Scouts’ Life Skills programs help girls invest in their own well-being, as well as that of their communities, country and world. One of the most powerful parts of being a Girl Scout is teaming up with other girls to make a positive difference. In 2020, girls led hundreds of service projects around Southern Illinois such as, “Change It Up,” a council-wide campaign to donate diapers and child care supplies to local pantries and nurseries.

Entrepreneurship Through Girl Scouts, girls learn to think like entrepreneurs as they participate in activities that spark curiosity, confidence and innovation. Girl Scouts attend finan- cial literacy programs throughout the year and the Girl Scout Cookie Program is the biggest girl-led business in the world. Last year GSofSI sold over 777,000 packages of cookies!

Outdoors Through Girl Scouts, girls explore the outdoors and develop a lifelong appreciation for nature. Each year, Girl Scouts hit the trails at area state parks & GSofSI’s State Park Patch Program continues to grow! GSofSI was so happy to be able to safely resume Day Camps & Resident Camps this past summer. There is always something new to explore in the great outdoors.
