King David recognises it is our responsibility to educate the whole child. We have a very comprehensive co-curricular program that broadens students’ learning experience. Our before and after school sports programs, lunch time activities, participation in inter-school sporting competitions and extensive performing arts programs offer students an avenue for self-expression. These rich holistic learning opportunities available at The King David School provide a broad educational model that extends students to ensure that they develop habits that will see them enjoying a well-rounded life.

Junior Performing Arts

Students have an incredible range of performing arts opportunities at The King David School. The Instrumental Music Program covers most orchestral and contemporary instruments and our instrumental and vocal ensembles rehearse regularly throughout the year. The Performing Arts Program includes Concerts, Soirees and fully staged Productions. Classroom Music offers students the opportunity to experience a number of instruments. Before School Sport WHO: Years 3- 5 WHEN: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 8:30am WHERE: Front Playspace/Sports Hall/Harold Holt Swimming Centre DESCRIPTION: A wide range of before school clinics is offered in various sports. The sports change throughout the year and are run by KDS coaches. SWIMMING In Term 1 & Term 4, swimming is offered. Students are to be dropped off at Harold Holt Swim Centre and handed over to a KDS swim coach. The KDS bus returns students to school in time for Homeroom. To sign your child up to a before school clinic, please go to the Parent Portal. Please note there is no extra charge associated with Before School Sport Training.

After School Clinics A range of after school clinics is offered by various providers throughout the year. New clinics are on offer from time to time. These are operated at school and are run by external providers at an extra cost to families which is paid directly to the providers. Information on how to register is available on the Parent Portal in the Document Centre.

House Sports All students are allocated to one of four Houses: Arava (yellow), Galil (green), Kinneret (blue), Negev (red). Siblings are alocated to the same House. Inter-House competitions are organised during the year for swimming, athletics and other sporting and cultural activities.

Inter-school Sport Competition All students in Years 5 and 6 compete in the weekly program of training and competition for the Balaclava District inter-school sport.

Team Selections At the start of each term, students select which sport they would like to join. If there are more students than required in a particular sport, then try outs will occur. The top performing students will then be selected for the teams and remaining students will be redirected to other sports that require more participants. Inter-school Special Sporting Events There are also special team selections for students in Years 4-6 for the following inter-school sporting carnivals: Term 1: Swimming Term 2: Cross Country Running Term 3: Athletics Before school training occurs for each of these teams prior to the inter-school carnivals. Snow Sports WHO: Prep-Year 5 DESCRIPTION: The King David School provides opportunities for students to compete in Snow Sports. Each year the School participates in the ABL Jewish Inter-school Snow Sports competition at Mt Buller.

Other Clubs & Activities

Clubs offer our students opportunities to explore a range of activities and supports their development of specific skills. They also provides a space for like-minded children across multiple year levels to connect and build relationships. We encourage all students to participate in a range of co-curricular opportunities to enhance their educational and social experience at school.

Art/Drawing WHO: Prep -Year 5 DESCRIPTION: This is a lunchtime club where students can come and do one of the following: • Free drawing using your imagination. • Step-by-step drawing using the ‘how to draw’ books. • Draw with me, drawing what the teacher draws on the whiteboard one line at a time. • Draw with the video, following instructions on a drawing video. Chess Club WHO: Prep - Year 5 DESCRIPTION: Students learn the strategy of chess under the guidance of a chess teacher. They develop their skills as they play a range of games with their peers.

Israeli Movie Club WHO: Prep -Year 5 DESCRIPTION: In the Israeli Movie Club, students are invited to practice Board Games their language skills while enjoying watching the latest WHO: movies in Hebrew. Senior Performing Arts

Students have an incredible range of performing arts opportunities at The King David School. The Instrumental Music Program covers most orchestral and contemporary instruments and our instrumental and vocal ensembles rehearse regularly throughout the year. The Performing Arts Program includes Concerts, Soirees and fully staged Productions. Music is also a highlight of the end of year Presentation Evening. Classroom programs in music and drama are provided up to VCE level, and many of our graduates have gone on to tertiary study and careers in the performing arts. Orchestra The Senior Orchestra is our flagship instrumental ensemble, and takes a leading role at major school events. It presents a broad range of repertoire from art music, musical theatre and contemporary works including original compositions. The Orchestra is run by a team of instrumental instructors, allowing the group to function as a both large ensemble and a tutorial opportunity for our top players. Vocal Ensembles Senior Choirs The Senior choirs are flagship groups, and specialise in multi-part choral singing that takes in a wide range of styles and eras. Highlights Performing Arts

The School’s annual Spring Concert is a feast for the senses. All music students, from Years 3- 12 have the opportunity to showcase their talents in choral and instrumental ensembles. Each year VCE students have the opportunity to perform their solo work, serving as inspiration to our younger music students.

House Sports All students are allocated to one of four Houses: Arava (yellow), Galil (green), Kinneret (blue), Negev (red). Siblings are alocated to the same House. Inter-House competitions are organised during the year for swimming, athletics and other sporting and cultural activities.
