It ensures that all lives matter, not just some. Saturday 6.30pm: Billy Hamilton (1st Ann) We should be proud that it has saved over 100,000 Irish James & Rose McCabe: Paddy Gorman lives in the last 35 years. May & Paddy Conlon: Gorman family The 8th Amendment is one of the most progressive laws we Ann McGee: Julia Bertram have. It protects the equal rights of all human life, whether Sunday male or female, rich or poor, able-bodied or disabled. ͺǤ͵ͲǣϐȋͳȌ It reads: Balbriggan 10am: Jim & Ona Meskell: Fr. Michael Hassett "The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, Aldona Agota: Vytautas Juozas with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, Patrick & Margaret Pyne: Anne Murray guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right." Halligan & Murray families 12 noon Gerry Shields: Frank Power: Stephen Scott There are some who suggest that the wording of the 8th Amendment may put a mother's life at risk. This is Tommy O`Carroll : Joseph Keenan Weekday Mass Intentions fundamentally untrue however. Our abortion laws were changed in 2013 to make it legal to terminate a pregnancy in Monday 10am Stephen Young (Rec. deceased) Ireland should it be necessary to protect the mother's life. Tuesday 10am Billy Hamilton (1st Ann) The 8th Amendment has one main effect - it prevents Andy, Rita & Peter Anderson elective abortions. It does not restrict doctors from acting to Molly Malone provide medical care to a woman should a complication arise Wednesday 10am — during pregnancy. Thursday 10am: David & Joe Hammond Where did it come from? Friday 10am: — The 8th Amendment was made a part of our Constitution in Weekend of April 28th / 29th 1983. It was approved by referendum; passing by an Saturday 6.30pm: Christine McBride (Months Mind) overwhelming majority of 67% of the electorate. The issue was raised over concerns that future abortion Bertie & Elizabeth Martin: Ruth McAuley campaigns would try to strip away the rights of the unborn in Jimmy Donnelly: Ulick Maypother a similar manner to the Roe vs Wade decision in the US. James & Caroline Smyth There were legitimate fears that a similar case in Ireland may Nicky & John Lacey introduce abortion here without the say of the people. Sunday What does the 8th amendment do? Balscadden 8.30am: — The 8th Amendment protects the right to life of all Irish Balbriggan 10am: Agnes & Joseph Sweetman: Jenny Reid people, and ensures that we are equal before the law. Flynn family: Patricia Byrne It protects the life of the unborn as far as practicable to do so, 12 noon David Brangan (Months Mind) but also guarantees that women are entitled to any treatment Dominic McGuinness: Des Gough necessary to protect their lives also. Ethna Noctor: Patrick Kearns At a political level, it prevents politicians from introducing Raymond, Agnes & Patrick Dowling and changing Ireland's abortion laws without public approval. Michael & John Cullen Any changes to our constitution must be approved in a referendum. Without the 8th Amendment, we would be ǡ putting an enormous amount of trust in our politicians. Ǥ The Supreme Court has declared that the only protection which Irish unborn children have is the 8th Amendment. • The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers
THE LIST of CHURCH OF IRELAND PARISH REGISTERS A Colour-coded Resource Accounting For What Survives; Where It Is; & With Additional Information of Copies, Transcripts and Online Indexes SEPTEMBER 2021 The List of Parish Registers The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers was originally compiled in-house for the Public Record Office of Ireland (PROI), now the National Archives of Ireland (NAI), by Miss Margaret Griffith (1911-2001) Deputy Keeper of the PROI during the 1950s. Griffith’s original list (which was titled the Table of Parochial Records and Copies) was based on inventories returned by the parochial officers about the year 1875/6, and thereafter corrected in the light of subsequent events - most particularly the tragic destruction of the PROI in 1922 when over 500 collections were destroyed. A table showing the position before 1922 had been published in July 1891 as an appendix to the 23rd Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records Office of Ireland. In the light of the 1922 fire, the list changed dramatically – the large numbers of collections underlined indicated that they had been destroyed by fire in 1922. The List has been updated regularly since 1984, when PROI agreed that the RCB Library should be the place of deposit for Church of Ireland registers. Under the tenure of Dr Raymond Refaussé, the Church’s first professional archivist, the work of gathering in registers and other local records from local custody was carried out in earnest and today the RCB Library’s parish collections number 1,114. The Library is also responsible for the care of registers that remain in local custody, although until they are transferred it is difficult to ascertain exactly what dates are covered.

ROINN COSANTA BUREAU OF MILITARY HISTORY, 1913-21. STATEMENT BY WITNESS. DOCUMENT NO. W.S. 1398 Witness Michael Rock, Main North St., Swords, Co. Dublin Identity. Commandant, Naul Battalion, Fingal Brigade I.R.A. Subject: National activities, 1914 - 1921 Conditions, if any, Stipulated by Witness. Nil File No. S.2711 Form B.S.M.2 STATEMENT BY MICHAEL ROCK North Street, Swords, Co. Dublin. I was born at The Naul, Co. Dublin, and received my education at the local school there. Our teacher was a Mr. Lehane who hailed from Kerry. This man was an enthusiast about the Irish language and he taught this to us, although it was not one of the subjects laid down by the Board of Education which was a British Government institution. Other than learning our own language, there was nothing taught which would lead one to become a separztist, or an out-and-out Irish patriot. At this time there was a branch of the Gaelic League in The Naul and I joined this and this, together with what we had learned at school, helped to mould our minds in the right direction.
