British Memorial in Normandy ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This book would not have been possible without a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, we are grateful that they realise the importance of recording history. We believe that recording local memories with WWII research gives the community ownership of their heritage. We would like to give a special thank you to all those who contributed memories and photos for our book. We feel very humble when we think of the contributions and sacrifices people of WWII made for us. On the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II, we wanted to commemorate and record people’s personal and family memories of World War II in Wigan and the surrounding areas, together with WWII research. We have laughed and cried as we have typed up and collated the memories and we are grateful to all those who helped us with their contributions and photographs. It has been an honour for us to record all these personal stories for the present generation and generations to come. Remember and Respect.
