Letter to State Department (Pdf) Download OROMO COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION JAARMAYAA HAWAASA OROMOO 6212 3rd Street NW; Washington, D.C 20011 June 30, 2020 Michael R. Pompeo Secretary of State The US Department of State 2201 C Street NW Washington, D.C. 20520 Dear Secretary Pompeo, We citizens of the United States with Oromo heritage, and members of the Oromo Community of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area, would like to bring to your attention a very disturbing assassination of an Oromo icon, artist Hachalu Hundessa, on June 29, 2020 in Addis Ababa. Hachalu was a prominent Oromo artist-singer, song writer and performer who was a voice for the viceless until he was shotdead. The government of Abiy Ahmed Ali is bluntantly attacking Oromo politicians, institutions decent voices following Hachalu’s homicide. As you know, Amenisty International is well aware of the gross human rights vilations committed in the Oromia region of Ethiopia by the government of Abiy Ahmed, the Nobele Lourate of 2019. Amenesty International’s recent extensive research published titled “Beyond Law Enforcement” has already disclosed the trend of human rights violation even though it is a tip of the iceberig given the colossal attrocieties orchestrated adnd executed by the Ethiopian regime. Killings and jailings are the defining characteristics of Abiy Ahmed Alis adminstration as far as the Oromia region of Ethiopia is concerned. Shockingly, this ironfist rule is scalling to the ambushing public figures and jailing political leaders. Hachalu Hundessa, a renowned Oromo singer and justice defender through his arstic works was gunned down merely for expressing his views on Oromia Media Network (OMN) a week ago. Tel. (202) 234-1151 E-mail: [email protected] Website: www.oromocommunitydmv.org Following the assassination of Hachalu Hunndessa, the government cracked down today on Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC) leadership. Notable activist and polititian Jawar Mohammed and peaceful struggle leader Mr. Bekele Gerba OFC Vicechairman are detained in unknown places in Addis Ababa. Government security forces vandalized office of an acclaimed broadcaster, Oromia Media Network, detained junalsist whose details are not discovered so far. As a result, clouds of uncertainty and panic are looming across the Oromia region and around the capital city mainly because of security forces restrictions and confrontation with fans of artist Hachalu Hundessa who peacefully took to the streets to express their griviances over the murder of the artist. We plead to the US government and international human rights groups to eye Ethiopia and put pressure on the Ethiopian rgime to: 1. End extrajudicial killings of civiliance and assassination of political/community leaders 2. Conduct an independent investigation into the assassination of Hachalu Hundessa 3. Release all political prisoners 4. Put an end to internet and phone line shutdowns 5. Remove the illegaly imposed military command post rule in Oromia and return the army and special forces to their barracks 6. To resend the illegal and unconstitutional extension of the term of the government and start negotiation with all political forces on the time and modality of conducting elction in 2020. Sincerely, Jenet Adem, Board Chairperson Oromo community organization of Washington DC Tel. • 73-84 Association of Arabica Coffee Quality Attributes with Selected So
East African Journal of Sciences (2015) Volume 9 (2) 73-84 Association of Arabica Coffee Quality Attributes with Selected Soil Chemical Properties Adugnaw Mintesnot1*, Nigussie Dechassa2,and Ali Mohammed1 1Jimma University, Department of Horticulture, P. O. Box 307, Jimma, Ethiopia 2Haramaya University, Department of Plant Sciences, P. O. Box 138, Dire Dawa, Ethiopia Abstract: Coffee (Coffea arabica L.) bean quality attributes differ based on the origin of the produce. Several agro-ecological conditions influence coffee bean quality attributes. Soil chemical properties may be some of the factors affecting the quality attributes. However, no study has so far been conducted to elucidate the association of coffee bean qualities with soil chemical properties in both major and minor coffee growing regions of Ethiopia. Thus, this research was conducted with the objective of establishing association of chemical soil properties with coffee cup quality attributes. Coffee beans as well as soil samples from which the beans originated were subjected to chemical analysis. The coffee beans and the corresponding soil samples originated from large scale coffee plantations (Bebeka, Gemadro and Goma), districts from southwestern major coffee growing region (Gore, Jimma, Lemkefa), West (Gimbi), East (Badano, Chiro, Darolebu, Habro and Melkabelo), South (Yirgacheffe) and northwestern minor coffee growing districts (Ankasha, Bure, Mecha and Jabi). The soil samples were collected from the depth of 0 - 50 cm near the coffee trunks and samples of ripe coffee cherries were picked up from the trees during the 2010/11 harvest season. Selected chemical properties of the soil, namely, available potassium, cation exchange capacity, exchangeable acidity, exchangeable bases, available micronutrients, available phosphorus, total nitrogen, soil pH, electrical conductivity, and percent organic carbon were determined from 53 soil samples in Jimma University soil laboratory and Wolkitie Soil Testing and Soil Fertility Improvement Centre using the established procedures.

  • Estimation of Elemental Concentrations of Ethiopia Coffee Arabica on Different Coffee Bean Varieties (Subspecies) Using Energy Dispersive X-Ray Florescence
International Journal of Scientific & Engineering Research Volume 9, Issue 4, April-2018 149 ISSN 2229-5518 Estimation of elemental concentrations of Ethiopia Coffee Arabica on different coffee bean Varieties (Subspecies) Using Energy Dispersive X-ray Florescence H. Masresha Feleke1*, Srinivasulu A1, K. Surendra1, B. Aruna1, Jaganmoy Biswas2, M. Sudershan2, A. D. P. Rao1, P. V. Lakshmi Narayana1 1. Dept. of Nuclear Physics, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam -530003, INDIA. 2. UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research, Trace element lab, Salt Lake, Kolkata 700 098, India Abstract: Using Energy Dispersive X-ray Florescence (EDXRF) Elemental analysis, Coffee cherry of Arabica subspecies produced in crop years of 2015/2016 in nine different parts of coffee growing Area in Ethiopa were analyzed and has been found four major elements P, K, Ca, S and eight minor elements Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Se, Sr, Rb, Br from Twenty coffee Arabica subspecies. The Samples were washed; dried; Grinding with mortar and finally pelletized. EDXRF analysis were carried the energies of the X-rays emitted by the sample are measured using a Si- semiconductor detector and are processed by a pulse height analyzer. Computer analysis of this data yields an energy spectrum which defines the elemental composition of the sample. The system detection calibration and accuracy check was performed through different countries reported values and analysis of NIST certified reference materials SRM 1515 (Apple leaves). Most of coffee beans sample were found to be a good agreements towards NIST standards and different countries reported values. Meanwhile discussed the elemental concentration and their biological effects on human physiology. Keywords: Coffee Cherry,IJSER Subspecies coffee, Elemental Concentration and EDXRF 1.
