A process for dev eloping a draft Municipal Skate and BMX Strategy for Boroondara commenced in September 2002. F ollowing extensiv e consultation, a draft Municipal Skate and BMX Strategy was dev eloped and presented to Council in August 2004. Council resolv ed that consideration of the draft Municipal Skate and BMX Strategy be deferred until Council had considered the J unction Skate and BMX Park Strategy. The Municipal Strategy has since undergone a further rev iew and now includes population forecasts out to 2021. This information has assisted to identify key target areas for 5 œ 24 year old skate and bike riders and to prioritise plans for further dev elopment of skate and BMX opportunities. The draft Municipal Skate and BMX Strategy prov ides a comprehensiv e assessment of skating and BMX within Boroondara. The strategy guides Council‘s direction for resource allocation for the prov ision of facilities, maintenance programming and guiding community relationships. It also aims to identify and address issues around the prov ision and participation in skate and BMX activ ities. Volume 1 contains the Action Plan and a summary of the research findings, consultation outcomes and site assessments detailed in Volume 2. For pure spontaneous action, skateboarding is unequalled.“ œ Dave Hackett, Concrete Wave 1.1 Sk a tin g a n d BM X Skating1 and BMX2 are increasingly popular sport and recreational pastimes for many young people. The growth of skating and related activ ity in the past ten years has been phenomenal. Participation has grown, new hybrid sports hav e ev olv ed and mainstream media cov erage has increased. In 2001 it was estimated that there were 407,000 in-line skaters and 250,000 skateboarders in Victoria, 91% of participants boys aged between 10 to 16 years of age3. The sport of skating and BMX undoubtedly prov ides young people with an affordable, healthy, creativ e and popular leisure pastime. The sport prov ides significant benefits to participants, of which include: • health benefits through participation in physical activ ity • social benefits through interaction with friends and peers As a result, there are now in excess of 194 sites in Victoria and ov er 750 nationally4. D ev elopment of many of these facilities is a result of positiv e planning and a large financial commitment from Councils, the community and the State Gov ernment. 1 “Skate” incorporates skateboard riding, in-line skating, snake board and scooter riding. 2 “BMX” incorporates BMX and m ountain bike riding. 3 Sport and Recreation Victoria (2001), The Skate Facility Guide. 4 www.skateboard.com.au (2006) Municipal Skate & BMX Strategy œ Volume 2: Technical Report Page 1 City of Boroondara Municipal Skate and BMX Strategy 1.2 City o f Bo ro o n d a ra – T h e Po p u la tio n The City of Boroondara cov ers a total area of 60.2332 sq uare kilometres, with a population of 157,2145. This is our last newsletter of the school year. We hope you have enjoyed reading the newsletters as much as we have enjoyed preparing them for you. Remember that exploring the natural world, working on projects together with your family, and making time to read are all important activities to keep mind and body healthy. This week’s theme = Bicycles It's that time of year when we are heading outside more and more as the weather becomes warmer and our days become longer. Some of us might enjoy a walk, some of us might ride horses, and some of us may play soccer, but many of us like to ride bikes and scooters best. Bicycle comes from “bi," which means two, and “cycle," which means circle. Wheels, of course, are shaped like circles. Bicycles have 2 wheels, 2 peddles, a frame and handlebars. There is a chain that is connected to cogs. When you push the pedals with your legs, this turns the chain, which then turns the back wheel. You steer the front wheel with the handlebars. The short name for “bicycle” is “bike.” It takes a little practice to balance on a bike. Children who are just learning to balance on a bike may use training wheels that keep the bike from falling over. Very young children can ride a tricycle (or “trike”), which has three wheels and can’t tip at all.

  • Ducati: in Pursuit of Magic (A)
DG-1507-E Rev. 2/2017 Ducati: In Pursuit of Magic (A) On the first business day of January 2006, Federico Minoli pulled up and parked his Ducati Multistrada motorcycle in front of the Ducati headquarters in Bologna, Italy. As he looked up at the complex, which housed offices, the assembly factory and the Ducati museum, he reflected back on the company’s history. 2006 would mark several anniversaries: 80 years since Ducati was established to produce electronic radio equipment; 60 years since Ducati had been producing motorcycles; and ten years since Minoli had become the company’s CEO. Minoli joined the then near bankrupt Ducati in 1996, and led its turnaround by creating the “World of Ducati,” a world that involved superior engineering, Italian heritage, slick design and an undeniable attraction for racing enthusiasts to “join the tribe” and become “Ducatisti.” See the video: Ducati’s advertising (length: 1’50”) Revenues moved from €195 million to €380 million from 1996 to 2000. EBITDA improved from a loss to €60 million in the same period. However, in the five subsequent years, business results stalled: revenues fell 2.3% on a compound annual growth rate from 2000 to 2005, and EBITDA fell to -€273,000 at the close of 2005. In late 2005, an agreement was signed by shareholder Texas Pacific Group to sell its 30% stake in Ducati to InvestIndustrial Holdings SA and a syndicate of other investors, with the understanding that Ducati would pursue a capital increase of €80 million. Minoli was certain that the new shareholders would demand certain changes to cut costs and get the company’s growth back on track.

  • Chapter 1 Introduction
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background At the present time, extreme games are becoming popular around the world which most of the sports were invented in the US. The most practical and flexible is skateboarding. Skateboarding at first was invented by the surfers who wanted to surf without the needs of waiting for the waves at the beaches. Therefore they made ramps as a replication of an undergoing wave portraying as skaters do the drop in from up of the ramp. That kind of things are still available nowadays, but the most practical things that everyone can actually do in many places is the street skateboarding. It is also a way of life where the skaters go find some spots with a good environment such as smooth roads, stairs, rails, empty swimming pools, etc to skate in. There are many things that skaters can do in street skateboarding because basically street skating has no rules and regulation unlike basketball or soccer. Also it is easy to skate in many good places as long as the environment supports the needs of the skater’s skateboarding capability which that means skills in mastering skateboarding techniques are really matters in finding the spots that matches personal ability, strength and guts. At first many people would think that skateboarding is an easy sport activity because they can witness from TV or videos how easy the skaters do their tricks and 1 2 somehow the tricks tend to be the same thing over and over where in reality it doesn’t. Most of the tricks in skateboarding are very hard to learn and it really depends on the skaters themselves.

Eight male elite BMX riders volunteered for the study. Each rider performed three, 10 second maximal sprints on an Olympic standard indoor BMX track. The riders’ bicycles were fitted with a portable SRM power meter. Each rider performed the three sprints using gear ratios of 41/16, 43/16, 45/16 tooth. The results from the 41/16 and 45/16 gear ratios were compared to the current standard 43/16 gear ratio. Statistically significant differences were found between the gear ratios for peak power (F(2,14) = 6.448; p = 0.010) and peak torque (F(2,14) = 4.777; p = 0.026), but no significant difference was found for time to peak power (F (2,14) = 0.200; p = 0.821).

All describe the clear and drastic evolution during the 1970s. But what has not been fully developed, is that many of technologies that led to the evolution of the sport came out of a specific region, at a specific time, and were developed by persons with a specific set of skills. To a great degree, skateboarding owed its evolution to what happened in the mid-1970s in North San Diego County in a coastal region called the San Dieguito area, an area that includes the cities of Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, and Del Mar, and the neighborhoods of Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, and La Costa. In this area, a confluence of skateboarders, entrepreneurs, and propitious social and economic conditions transformed the sport and culture of skateboarding. Keywords- skateboarding, North County San Diego, San Dieguito, 1970s, multimedia, oral histories, subculture, youth culture, business Dolan 2 you'd see him rolling in on his rotten board with roller skates underneath.

SLS NIKE SB WORLD TOUR: MUNICH SCHEDULE SLS 2016 1 JUNE 24, 2017 OLYMPIC PARK MUNICH ABOUT SLS Founded by pro skateboarder Rob Dyrdek in 2010, Street League Skateboarding (SLS) was created to foster growth, popularity, and acceptance of street skateboarding worldwide. Since then, SLS has evolved to become a platform that serves to excite the skateboarding community, educate both the avid and casual fans, and empower communities through its very own SLS Foundation. In support of SLS’ mission, Nike SB joined forces with SLS in 2013 to create SLS Nike SB World Tour. In 2014, the SLS Super Crown World Championship became the official street skateboarding world championship series as sanctioned by the International Skateboarding Federation (ISF). In 2015, SLS announced a long-term partnership with Skatepark of Tampa (SPoT) to create a premium global qualification system that spans from amateur events to the SLS Nike SB Super Crown World Championship. The SPoT partnership officially transitions Tampa Pro into becoming the SLS North American Qualifier that gives one non-SLS Pros the opportunity to qualify to the Barcelona Pro Open and one non-SLS Pro will become part of the 2017 World Tour SLS Pros. Tampa Pro will also serve as a way for current SLS Pros to gain extra championship qualification points to qualify to the Super Crown. SLS is now also the exclusive channel for live streaming of Tampa Pro and Tampa Am. This past March, SLS Picks 2017, Louie Lopez, took the win at Tampa Pro, gaining him the first Golden Ticket of the year straight to Super Crown.
