PRESIDENT PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Howdy Aggie Moms!

It is so hard to believe how fast this year has gone by! It has been an honor to serve as your 2016‐2017 Federation President. I enjoyed having the privilege of meeting and visiting with so many of you at our Federation and District Meetings. You have given me wonderful memories that I will cherish always. We had a busy Fall and Winter! Aggie Mom Camp, which was exciting and fun in October followed by the holidays, and then the 2017 New Year came in. We had our January Federation Meeting highlighted with President Young, telling us of news of the University and things to come; Hannah Wimberly, ‘17, Student Body President, and representatives from Special Units within the Corps of Cadets.

As you all know my theme this year is “Aggie Moms United With the Corps In Keeping the Aggie Spirit.” The Corps honored us with their presence at our Winter meeting in full force. Dan Rosenfield '17, Squadron 17 Platoon Leader and SGA VP Executive Vice President, was our Emcee of the program part of our meeting. He has truly won the hearts of all Aggie Moms who have ever met him or heard him speak! We hadd an her handler, Gavin Suel '17 at the Registration and coffee; the Color Guard presenting the Colors; the Yell Leaders getting us all motivated; Zeb Hornbuckle '17, 2016‐2017 Commander Ross Volunteer Company; Aaron Barclay '17 with the Fish Drill Team telling us what they are about and all about their uniforms and two sophomore Fish Drill Team representatives giving us a demonstration of the precision drill they perform at competitions around the country and bringing home National Championships since 1937; Andy Duffie '76, Century Tree Project; and the grand finale with Matt Little '17, Head Drum Major of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band leading us in the at the close of the General Meeting. It was a great honor to have had all these very special people providing us with a very memorable program.

Great News! In February, President‐Elect Carolyn Phelan, 1st VP Membership Peggy Nolan, and I were excited to have had the opportunity to visit the Galveston campus and meet with Shelly Fordyce, Director of Student Affairs. We met with Shelly to introduce ourselves, and to work to develop a relationship between the Galveston campus and the Federation of Aggie Moms. We have never done this in the past and we wanted to open a new door. We wanted them to know who the Federation is, what we do, and that we represent all 109 Aggie Mom clubs, in and out of state. During our visit with Shelly, we asked to be a part of the New Student Conferences held on the Galveston campus, just like we are a part of the NSC on main campus. We were received very graciously with our request and plan to be present alongside the Galveston Aggie Moms at the Galveston New Student Conferences which begin in May. We had a very good visit and a short, but wonderful, tour of the campus. The campus is so nice and as evidenced by all of the construction, is growing very rapidly! We hope to have this same opportunity in the near future with the McAllen campus. Aggie Moms are everywhere!

1ST VP MEMBERSHIP

Membership Workshop January 2017

We are so excited to announce that TexAgs and the New Student Conferences office have combined their efforts to produce a video to promote Aggie Moms. We'll be using this video to promote membership at the NSC this summer in College Station and in Galveston.

But we need your HELP! On Thursday, April 6th we are planning to film a LARGE group segment. We need 100+ Aggie Moms to meet on the back side of Rudder Tower at 5:45 pm and walk down Military Walk while they film our group. Feel free to wear maroon, or your club shirts or whateveru yo wore to drive into town! It just doesn't matter. We need lots of moms. We should be finished by 6:30. If your moms are planning to help with Boutique setup, maybe the Boutique chair can lead everyone out for this short amount of time. We just really need lots of moms.

Please share this with your ENTIRE MEMBERSHIP. I have also posted this on the Federation Facebook page and moms can RSVP there. Or if you have a head count of members that plan to be there shoot me an email at the above address. Or direct them individually to me. I'm really flexible!

If we find that we are a bit short we can supplement with students as they will be filming a lot of feet and doing some overhead shots via the use of a drone. Some really cool stuff!

Please help! This video will help all rof ou clubs!

6TH VP DISTRICTS 2016‐2017 DISTRICT MEETINGS

It has been a pleasure to road trip across the state to meet with clubs in their district. Most of the meetings were held in restaurants so we shared dinner, stories, and good fun. The biggest laughs were at the Dodging Duck in Boerne, TX where we also got to meet the folks in town for Kilt Night. What fun! We even got to Skype with clubs across the country and talk about the unique challenges of a distant club. The 2-hour format allows for plenty of time to share ideas among the clubs as well as learn the best practices for running a local club. Many great ideas have been shared for meeting programs and speakers. If you missed this year’s district meeting, please consider attending next year. Our new meeting format definitely provides more information and education than past meetings and is providing wonderful, positive results. Thank you to all of the moms who have attended a district meeting this year. Your enthusiastic participation has made them so successful.

We talked a lot about the plans that are being implemented by the Federation to help with membership in the environment of opting in for new students. Thank you Peggy Nolan for all the great details to share!.

Contact Diane Eckols, 6th VP for Districts, if you have any questions or comments at [email protected] or at 713-591-1709.

IN MEMORY OF SHIRLEY NEAL

In Memory of Shirley Neal Federation President 1987‐1988 Shirley Lou Neal, 1987‐1988 Federation President, was born on April 14, 1935, and she joined our Lord in Heaven on March 11, 2017. She was born in Bourbon, Indiana, to Art and Cora Hahn. In 1953 she graduated from Bourbon High School, and enrolled in Indiana University. While in colleget she me her husband, Roger Neal. After becoming Mrs. Neal on June 10, 1956, she started her career as a wife and mother of three (3) girls. After sending their three (3) daughters to Texas A&M University Shirley started her new life as an Aggie Mom. Shirley was devoted to all the students at Texas A&M. She served as President of the Houston Texas A&M University Mothers’ Club, and then in 1987 Shirley was installed as Federation President. Shirley also served on the Sterling C. Evans Library Board, and in 1992 she was elected President of the Friends of the Library.e Sh was also named an Honorary Texas A&M Singing Cadet, an honor awarded to only a few. Her Installation theme as Federation President was “Friendship”, and it was very fitting for her. Shirley was a friend to all who met her. If you walked in to a room of people, you would meet Shirley. She would make sure to introduce herself, and from that time on she considered you her friend. During her time on the Federation Board Shirley, Jane Boehm, Patsy Armbruster, Carol Greaney‐Wurst and Maggie Jahn traveled and stayed in one room together for Federation and District Meetings. Everyone who has traveled with a group of ladies to a Federation meeting and District meetings knows when you put this many ladies in 1 room with only 2 beds you can’t help but become very good friends for life. Shirley will be remembered for her warm, cheerful, beautiful smile. Everyone who knew her received cards and short notes from her through the years. Just when you needed it you would receive a perfectly handwritten card or note from her. She knew just when to send them and just what to write. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents (Art and Cora Hahn) and a brother (Warren Hahn). She is survived by her husband of more than 60 years (Roger Neal), a sister (Marjorie Osborne), a brother (George Hahn), three (3) daughters (Linda Goad and her husband, Bill; Beth Peck; Juli Baldwin and husband Forrest). Shirley is also survived by )her six (6 grandchildren (Billy, Bryan, Ashley, Ryan, Harrison, and Connor) and one (1) great grandson (Collier) who all knew her as “Ginny”. Services were on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either Friends of the Sterling C. Evans Library, Texas A&M University, 5000 TAMU, College Station, Texas 77843‐5000, or to the FFP Aggie Ring Scholarship Fund which provides a senior Aggie Ring for a student who is unable to purchase one, c/o Dianne Mayfield, 5921 Lavon Drive, Flower Mound, Texas 75028. Cards to the family may be sent to Roger Neal, 8060 Frankford Road, #121, Dallas, Texas 75252. Shirley will truly be missed, but she will forever be in our hearts. LEGACY CORNER Memories from the Formers Tributes to Shirley Neal I got to know Shirley well when we went to the districts meeting, we didn't miss many. We went from one end of Texas to the other and we also left early to allowing shopping time. Almost every time we went to El Paso one of us bought a pair of boots. We wore them often to district meetings when the theme would suit the occasion. I loved that girl and will miss her dearly. Maggie Jahn

With the death of Aggie Mom Former Federation President Shirley Neal, we have all lost a beautiful and loving friend. Shirley was truly devoted to the mission of overseeing the care of all A&M students. Several past presidents live in the same area which made it convenient for us to travel together to District meetings. We had some great funny times with each other ‐ like short sheeting the beds and having to run outside in our jammies when a Bed and Breakfast caught fire. Through these many years, we were as close as a sisterhood i.e. Rabbits. Shirley was thought of as our "Big Sis" and will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Patsy Armbruster

BENJAMIN KNOX SCHOLARSHIP

“Aggie Mom Quilt” Print Raises Scholarship Funds Benjamin Knox, the very popular “Aggie Artist” and faithful friend to the Aggie Moms, graciously designed an original piece of artwork specifically for the Aggie Moms. The purpose of the original painting and the 250 limited‐edition, signed and numbered prints is to raise scholarship funds to support current Texas A&M University students. Benjamin unveiled the painting during Parents Weekend 2016 and gifted it to the Federation of Texas A&M University Mothers’ Clubs.

The prints were distributed to our member Aggie Mom Clubs during the Fall Federation Meeting. All throughout this 2016‐2017 calendar year the individual clubs have been coming up with innovative and creative ways to Raffle/Auction/Sell the prints that were designated to them. May 30th, 2017 is the deadline for all prints to be awarded. Each club will then provide a summary of the funds raised for scholarships through the awarding of the prints.

Benjamin is always quick to tell everyone “that he never would have made it through school without the Aggie Moms.” We love that Benjamin is “passing it forward”, by donating this wonderful print to help provide funds for scholarships for Texas A&M University students. Stay tuned for the big announcement of how much was raised from this generous gift from Benjamin Knox!

AGGIE MOM 101: SIP SHOP & LEARN

On Saturday, January 21, 2017, immediately following our Federation Workshops, Aggie Moms were invited to attend a presentation, designed especially for us by C C Creations at their main headquarters. After dining on delicious appetizers and sipping wine, we split into three groups and attended three mini information sessions:

1) T‐Shirt and Specialty Products: learning about the silk screening process, graphic design services that are available and how to set up individual accounts for clubs and their members to be able to gather orders online.

2) Decals: Aggie Moms became acquainted with how decals are produced. Each Aggie Mom got the opportunity to personally “make and take” their own decal.

3) Product Licensing and Guidelines: Lots of great information explaining the complicated process of licensing, fees, and policies in layman’s (Aggie Moms) language. As a special treat, we all got to (Silk Screen) our own delicious T‐Shirt Cookie using Jacob’s now famous Cookie Silk Screening Press. Yummmm!

And to top it off, CC Creations gave each Mom (2) 40% off coupons to shop that weekend in their Maroon U or CC Creations Warehouse. Does it get any better? A huge thank you to CC Creations for hosting this fun and educational event!
