It is so hard to believe how fast this year has gone by! It has been an honor to serve as your 2016‐2017 Federation President. I enjoyed having the privilege of meeting and visiting with so many of you at our Federation and District Meetings. You have given me wonderful memories that I will cherish always. We had a busy Fall and Winter! Aggie Mom Camp, which was exciting and fun in October followed by the holidays, and then the 2017 New Year came in. We had our January Federation Meeting highlighted with President Young, telling us of news of the University and things to come; Hannah Wimberly, ‘17, Student Body President, and representatives from Special Units within the Corps of Cadets. As you all know my theme this year is “Aggie Moms United With the Corps In Keeping the Aggie Spirit.” The Corps honored us with their presence at our Winter meeting in full force. Dan Rosenfield '17, Squadron 17 Platoon Leader and SGA VP Executive Vice President, was our Emcee of the program part of our meeting. He has truly won the hearts of all Aggie Moms who have ever met him or heard him speak! We had dReveille an her handler, Gavin Suel '17 at the Registration and coffee; the Color Guard presenting the Colors; the Yell Leaders getting us all motivated; Zeb Hornbuckle '17, 2016‐2017 Commander Ross Volunteer Company; Aaron Barclay '17 with the Fish Drill Team telling us what they are about and all about their uniforms and two sophomore Fish Drill Team representatives giving us a demonstration of the precision drill they perform at competitions around the country and bringing home National Championships since 1937; Andy Duffie '76, Century Tree Project; and the grand finale with Matt Little '17, Head Drum Major of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band leading us in the Aggie War Hymn at the close of the General Meeting. It was a great honor to have had all these very special people providing us with a very memorable program. Great News! In February, President‐Elect Carolyn Phelan, 1st VP Membership Peggy Nolan, and I were excited to have had the opportunity to visit the Galveston campus and meet with Shelly Fordyce, Director of Student Affairs. We met with Shelly to introduce ourselves, and to work to develop a relationship between the Galveston campus and the Federation of Aggie Moms. We have never done this in the past and we wanted to open a new door. We wanted them to know who the Federation is, what we do, and that we represent all 109 Aggie Mom clubs, in and out of state. During our visit with Shelly, we asked to be a part of the New Student Conferences held on the Galveston campus, just like we are a part of the NSC on main campus. We were received very graciously with our request and plan to be present alongside the Galveston Aggie Moms at the Galveston New Student Conferences which begin in May. We had a very good visit and a short, but wonderful, tour of the campus. The campus is so nice and as evidenced by all of the construction, is growing very rapidly! We hope to have this same opportunity in the near future with the McAllen campus. Aggie Moms are everywhere! Aggie Mom Boutique 2017, our well known and spectacular on‐campus fund raiser for Aggie Moms’ Clubs during Family Weekend is quickly approaching – April 7‐8! Aggie Mom Boutique 2017 will once again be held in the beautiful Memorial Student Center (MSC) ‐ the place where Boutique began many years ago. Boutique booths will occupy most of the second floor with raffle tables located in the corridors. You will be able to shop to your heart’s content for wonderful treasures, many handmade by Aggie Moms. The MSC also provides food venues, an ATM for your convenience, and opportunities to visit with friends and family in a very comfortable setting. It is also conveniently located across from Kyle Field where the Spring Football game will Federation of Texas A&M University Mothers’ Clubs Newsletter Page 3 of 23 be held on Saturday afternoon and you can get a preview of our Fightin' Texas Aggie football team!! Please join us for the Spring Federation Business Meeting, Election of 2017 – 2018 Officers, and Directory Dedication by President‐Elect Carolyn Phelan '89, on Friday, April 7 at 5:30 PM in the Koldus Building, Rooms 110‐111. On Saturday, April 8, the Spring Federation Meeting and Installation of Officers will also be held in the Koldus Building, Rooms 110‐111. Registration is from 8:00 – 8:30 AM followed by the Business Meeting and Installation of Officers beginning at 8:30 AM. For those of you who love Miss Reveille, she is known to make an appearance to greet the Aggie Moms! Our long‐standing tradition of hosting the Singing Cadets for a mini‐concert, as well as a chance to have your photograph made with Miss Reveille is a must! A reception for theg outgoin Board members will wrap up the events for the year, so please plan to join us. I hope to see you at our Spring Federation Meeting and at Boutique. Wishing you safe travels to Aggieland! Gig ‘em Sharon Johnson Federation President 2016‐2017 Aggie Moms United with The Corps In Keeping the Aggie Spirit Federation of Texas A&M University Mothers’ Clubs Newsletter Page 4 of 23 1ST VP MEMBERSHIP Membership Workshop January 2017 We are so excited to announce that TexAgs and the New Student Conferences office have combined their efforts to produce a video to promote Aggie Moms. We'll be using this video to promote membership at the NSC this summer in College Station and in Galveston. But we need your HELP! On Thursday, April 6th we are planning to film a LARGE group segment. We need 100+ Aggie Moms to meet on the back side of Rudder Tower at 5:45 pm and walk down Military Walk while they film our group. Feel free to wear maroon, or your club shirts or whateveru yo wore to drive into town! It just doesn't matter. We need lots of moms. We should be finished by 6:30. If your moms are planning to help with Boutique setup, maybe the Boutique chair can lead everyone out for this short amount of time. We just really need lots of moms. Please share this with your ENTIRE MEMBERSHIP. I have also posted this on the Federation Facebook page and moms can RSVP there. Or if you have a head count of members that plan to be there shoot me an email at the above address. Or direct them individually to me. I'm really flexible! If we find that we are a bit short we can supplement with students as they will be filming

THE TEXAS A&M FOUNDATION MAGAZINE | FALL 2009 PRESIDENT’S LETTER Foundation Steers Steady Course In September the Texas A&M Foundation celebrated its 56th birthday and 10th anniversary in the Jon L. Hagler Center. It was a delight to see more than 400 of you—our former students and friends—at our pregame celebration Sept. 5. Much has changed since we moved into our new building in 1999. Many of you recall when the corner of Houston and what used to be “Jersey” Street was the University Police station. A few of you might remember even further back, when this spot was the location of an old county project house built in the late 1930s. There is a certain elegant symbolism in the fact that the campus home to major-gift philanthropy—the Hagler Center—sits on the site of a fundamental act of charity: folks back home helping poor kids go to college. Ten years ago the Foundation employed 72 people and managed assets of $537.9 million. Today we have 95 on our staff and oversee $1.2 billion in assets for Texas A&M. Back then we didn’t have an Internet and fans were just good Ags at Kyle Field, not people following our Facebook page. I’m privileged to say that my position and title have not changed since 1993. Bob Rutledge, my predecessor, directed the Foundation for 12 years before me. I hope you agree that this stable leadership, along with your generous gifts, has contributed to our success. Leadership change at A&M has been much in the news.

They were scholars, student athletes, active in Boy Scouts, 4-H, Church groups, they were leaders. If you had to chose a dozen students to represent the best of Texas A&M, you probably wouldn't do much better than these. I have just learned about Timothy Doran Kerlee, Jr. He was the twelfth student to die, when his life support was disconnected last Friday evening. Let me tell you about this amazing kid. Tim graduated last year from Germantown High School in Germantown,Tennessee. He was an Eagle Scout, graduated third in his class, and was elected to his High School Hall of Fame. He was a student athlete, and a member of the National Honor Society. He was active in the youth group and drama club at his Methodist Church. He was actively recruited by Texas A&M, and when he enrolled he tested out of his entire freshman year. That is how this 17 year-old could be classified as a sophomore.

  • March 19, 2013 Dr. R. Bowen Loftin Office of the President 1246 TAMU Texas A&M University College Station, TX 77843 Dear
March 19, 2013 Dr. R. Bowen Loftin Office of the President 1246 TAMU Texas A&M University College Station, TX 77843 Dear Dr. Loftin, On September 21, 2012 I sent the original version of this letter (regarding the flawed beveled logo) to the Chancellor, the Board of Regents, yourself, and the Athletic Director. On September 25th Regent Richard Box informed me via email that they would look into the bevel issue and thanked me for my attention to detail. Since everyone is extremely busy during football season I waited until after the Cotton Bowl and emailed Regent Box for an update on January 15th. The Regent Chairman replied later that same day and informed me that you and Jason Cook are dealing with this issue. Starting with the official SEC announcement back in September of 2011 up to the SEC Championship in Women‟s Basketball, Texas A&M has accomplished so much that it is overwhelming. Major announcements such as the law school and the federal grant for the biodefense center came the summer before the inaugural SEC football season. Aggies everywhere are proud of how far we have come. Texas A&M has history and traditions that are very unique. Outsiders might not understand our traditions, but we, as Aggies, do. One thing that many other Aggies and I cannot understand is why marketing continues to push the beveled aTm logo, which is the purpose of this letter. The beveling is geometrically incorrect, unbalanced, aesthetically unappealing, lessens the impact of the Block T, and is just plain confusing. The white aTm logo with gray bevel highlights over a maroon background is not an improvement.

  • Autographed Football by Johnny Manziel
Autographed Football by Johnny Manziel Jonathan Paul Manziel, is an American football quarterback for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Browns with the 22nd overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was nationally recruited out of high school as a dual-threat quarterback. In 2012, Manziel debuted for the Texas A&M Aggies as a redshirt freshman in Kevin Sumlin's Air Raid offense during A&M's first season in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He broke numerous NCAA Division I FBS and SEC records, which include becoming the first freshman and fifth player in NCAA history to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a season. At the end of the regular season, he became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, Manning Award, and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. Manziel capitalized on his redshirt freshman season by leading Texas A&M to a 41–13 victory over Oklahoma in the 2013 Cotton Bowl Classic. TexAgs users tagged Manziel with the nickname "Johnny Football" during Manziel's sophomore high school football season in Texas. The nickname followed him to Texas A&M University and endures to this day. Despite not having played baseball since his junior year of high school, Manziel was drafted 837th overall in the 28th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres. Manziel was officially listed as a shortstop, the position he played at Tivy. • Heisman Trophy (2012) • Davey O'Brien Award (2012) • Manning Award (2012) • Chic Harley Award (2012) • AP Player of the Year (2012) • Sporting News Player of the Year (2012) • Consensus All-American (2012) • SEC Offensive Player of the Year (2012) • First-team All-SEC (2012, 2013) • SEC Freshman of the Year (2012) • College Football Performance National Freshman of the Year (2012) • Cotton Bowl Offensive MVP (2012) • SEC Male Athlete of the Year (2013) • Chick-fil-A Bowl Offensive MVP (2013) • Mr.

THE TEXAS A&M FOUNDATION MAGAZINE | F A L L 2 0 1 0 PresiDent’s letter Borlaug, Billionaires and Big ideas in the world of higher education fundraising, we talk often about the “big idea” and how it inspires giving. some people are moved to provide opportunity for young people through scholarships. others give to the college program that helped jump-start their successful career. around here, many give back to preserve our proud history and traditions. But philanthropists often are motivated by a desire to solve a pressing issue facing our society. they want to support “big hairy ideas” generated through scholarly research that will advance knowledge and improve lives. they want to transform. they want to create a better world. one of those big ideas surfaced recently after a meeting in afghanistan between a&M’s Dr. ed Price and philanthropist howard Buffett, son of leg- endary investor Warren Buffett. their aspiration is to assist farmers in war-torn countries as a means of alleviating conflict and promoting long-term peace. as director of a&M’s Borlaug institute for international agriculture, Price knows some things about the relationship between war and empty stomachs. it’s his job, after all, to extend the late Dr. norman Borlaug’s legacy of achieving social justice through an adequate food supply. once Buffett learned that a partnership with a&M could advance his cause, he donated $1.5 million through the texas a&M Foundation to create a faculty chair and multidisciplinary program that will focus on international conflict and development.
