Welcome! Dear Friends, Welcome to the 9th Annual Texas Independence Day celebration! The club uses this event as a fundraiser to build Endowed Scholarships, sending Maryland students to college. Maryland has 700+ alumni and 68 current students at Texas A&M. Known for their Veterinary Medical School, Mays Business College, and Engineering programs, Texas A&M develops leaders of character, dedicated to serving the greater good while instilling their core values (Read more, http://www.tamu.edu/about/coreValues.html ) In 2015 the Texas A&M Club of Maryland set a goal of giving students from Maryland the opportunity to earn a scholarship to attend Texas A&M University. We set the first goal at $25,000. As of February 1, 2017 we have reach that goal of a $25,000 endowment. However, we have only begun our journey for making higher education more attainable for the next generation of Aggies. Current out-of-state tuition and fees is $30,208, not including housing, food and textbooks. The new goal the Club would like to reach is a $100,000 endowment so it will yield a $4,000 scholarship annually. This would allow a Maryland student to then receive in-state tuition and fees which is a cost savings of $20,178 for the student and their family. Thank you to all who attended our events, donated silent auction items, bid on those silent auction items, those who gave direct donations, and the many volunteer hours to reach this first $25,000 goal. Thank you everyone for attending and supporting our celebration, and supporting the Texas A&M Club of Maryland in raising money to send our Maryland kids to college. Thank you again and remember to have fun! Gig’Em, Brandi Greenberg V.P. of Activities Texas Independence Day Chairperson Who We Are Texas A&M Former Students are known for our pride in our alma mater and our famous Aggie Network. This Maryland A&M Club was chartered by the Association of Former Students August 1st 2003. The Maryland A&M Club is recognized as a tax-exempt charity under section 501(c)(3) of the tax code. We provide scholarships to Maryland students. Our Mission Statement The Scholarship Association of the Texas A&M Club of Maryland is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that strives to strengthen the Texas A&M Association of Former Students within the state of Maryland, provide financial aid to Maryland students attending Texas A&M University, and to strengthen the ties and make a positive difference between members and the community. Why Your Donation Is So Important We have only begun our journey for making higher education more attainable for the next generation of Aggies. Current out-of-state tuition and fees is $30,208, not including housing, food and textbooks. The new goal we would like to reach, is a $100,000 endowment so it will yield a $4,000 scholarship annually. THE TEXAS A&M FOUNDATION MAGAZINE | FALL 2009 PRESIDENT’S LETTER Foundation Steers Steady Course In September the Texas A&M Foundation celebrated its 56th birthday and 10th anniversary in the Jon L. Hagler Center. It was a delight to see more than 400 of you—our former students and friends—at our pregame celebration Sept. 5. Much has changed since we moved into our new building in 1999. Many of you recall when the corner of Houston and what used to be “Jersey” Street was the University Police station. A few of you might remember even further back, when this spot was the location of an old county project house built in the late 1930s. There is a certain elegant symbolism in the fact that the campus home to major-gift philanthropy—the Hagler Center—sits on the site of a fundamental act of charity: folks back home helping poor kids go to college. Ten years ago the Foundation employed 72 people and managed assets of $537.9 million. Today we have 95 on our staff and oversee $1.2 billion in assets for Texas A&M. Back then we didn’t have an Internet and fans were just good Ags at Kyle Field, not people following our Facebook page. I’m privileged to say that my position and title have not changed since 1993. Bob Rutledge, my predecessor, directed the Foundation for 12 years before me. I hope you agree that this stable leadership, along with your generous gifts, has contributed to our success. Leadership change at A&M has been much in the news.

They were scholars, student athletes, active in Boy Scouts, 4-H, Church groups, they were leaders. If you had to chose a dozen students to represent the best of Texas A&M, you probably wouldn't do much better than these. I have just learned about Timothy Doran Kerlee, Jr. He was the twelfth student to die, when his life support was disconnected last Friday evening. Let me tell you about this amazing kid. Tim graduated last year from Germantown High School in Germantown,Tennessee. He was an Eagle Scout, graduated third in his class, and was elected to his High School Hall of Fame. He was a student athlete, and a member of the National Honor Society. He was active in the youth group and drama club at his Methodist Church. He was actively recruited by Texas A&M, and when he enrolled he tested out of his entire freshman year. That is how this 17 year-old could be classified as a sophomore.

  • March 19, 2013 Dr. R. Bowen Loftin Office of the President 1246 TAMU Texas A&M University College Station, TX 77843 Dear
March 19, 2013 Dr. R. Bowen Loftin Office of the President 1246 TAMU Texas A&M University College Station, TX 77843 Dear Dr. Loftin, On September 21, 2012 I sent the original version of this letter (regarding the flawed beveled logo) to the Chancellor, the Board of Regents, yourself, and the Athletic Director. On September 25th Regent Richard Box informed me via email that they would look into the bevel issue and thanked me for my attention to detail. Since everyone is extremely busy during football season I waited until after the Cotton Bowl and emailed Regent Box for an update on January 15th. The Regent Chairman replied later that same day and informed me that you and Jason Cook are dealing with this issue. Starting with the official SEC announcement back in September of 2011 up to the SEC Championship in Women‟s Basketball, Texas A&M has accomplished so much that it is overwhelming. Major announcements such as the law school and the federal grant for the biodefense center came the summer before the inaugural SEC football season. Aggies everywhere are proud of how far we have come. Texas A&M has history and traditions that are very unique. Outsiders might not understand our traditions, but we, as Aggies, do. One thing that many other Aggies and I cannot understand is why marketing continues to push the beveled aTm logo, which is the purpose of this letter. The beveling is geometrically incorrect, unbalanced, aesthetically unappealing, lessens the impact of the Block T, and is just plain confusing. The white aTm logo with gray bevel highlights over a maroon background is not an improvement.

  • Autographed Football by Johnny Manziel
Autographed Football by Johnny Manziel Jonathan Paul Manziel, is an American football quarterback for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Browns with the 22nd overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was nationally recruited out of high school as a dual-threat quarterback. In 2012, Manziel debuted for the Texas A&M Aggies as a redshirt freshman in Kevin Sumlin's Air Raid offense during A&M's first season in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He broke numerous NCAA Division I FBS and SEC records, which include becoming the first freshman and fifth player in NCAA history to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a season. At the end of the regular season, he became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, Manning Award, and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. Manziel capitalized on his redshirt freshman season by leading Texas A&M to a 41–13 victory over Oklahoma in the 2013 Cotton Bowl Classic. TexAgs users tagged Manziel with the nickname "Johnny Football" during Manziel's sophomore high school football season in Texas. The nickname followed him to Texas A&M University and endures to this day. Despite not having played baseball since his junior year of high school, Manziel was drafted 837th overall in the 28th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres. Manziel was officially listed as a shortstop, the position he played at Tivy. • Heisman Trophy (2012) • Davey O'Brien Award (2012) • Manning Award (2012) • Chic Harley Award (2012) • AP Player of the Year (2012) • Sporting News Player of the Year (2012) • Consensus All-American (2012) • SEC Offensive Player of the Year (2012) • First-team All-SEC (2012, 2013) • SEC Freshman of the Year (2012) • College Football Performance National Freshman of the Year (2012) • Cotton Bowl Offensive MVP (2012) • SEC Male Athlete of the Year (2013) • Chick-fil-A Bowl Offensive MVP (2013) • Mr.

THE TEXAS A&M FOUNDATION MAGAZINE | F A L L 2 0 1 0 PresiDent’s letter Borlaug, Billionaires and Big ideas in the world of higher education fundraising, we talk often about the “big idea” and how it inspires giving. some people are moved to provide opportunity for young people through scholarships. others give to the college program that helped jump-start their successful career. around here, many give back to preserve our proud history and traditions. But philanthropists often are motivated by a desire to solve a pressing issue facing our society. they want to support “big hairy ideas” generated through scholarly research that will advance knowledge and improve lives. they want to transform. they want to create a better world. one of those big ideas surfaced recently after a meeting in afghanistan between a&M’s Dr. ed Price and philanthropist howard Buffett, son of leg- endary investor Warren Buffett. their aspiration is to assist farmers in war-torn countries as a means of alleviating conflict and promoting long-term peace. as director of a&M’s Borlaug institute for international agriculture, Price knows some things about the relationship between war and empty stomachs. it’s his job, after all, to extend the late Dr. norman Borlaug’s legacy of achieving social justice through an adequate food supply. once Buffett learned that a partnership with a&M could advance his cause, he donated $1.5 million through the texas a&M Foundation to create a faculty chair and multidisciplinary program that will focus on international conflict and development.
