Compatriots—

The Christmas Holidays are behind us and I hope that all of you were able to spend Christmas Day at home with your family!!! Our country has become so politically correct that we are supposed to only say Happy Holidays so as not to offend anyone. Sorry, but I will forever be offensive as Christ will always be in my holiday greetings! It is now time to start looking ahead to a New Year! My hope is that my country will make a New Year’s Resolution to regain its sanity and return to the Christian values of our forefathers. So, let us include a pledge to do all that we can to make this happen!!! January is time to start planning to attend one of our many Lee-Jackson Banquets. We have eight (8) scheduled at this time. That must be a record! Information regarding the locations and dates is included in this publication. We also have a lot of activities in February from which to choose. The Krewe of Janus Mardi Gras Parade will roll through W. Monroe/Monroe on Saturday, February 3 rd . And the Jefferson, Texas Mardi Gras Parade will be held on Saturday, February 10 th . These parades are attended by thousands of spectators that cheer at the sight of our flags---so plan to participate in at least one if not both! The Stephen Dill Lee Institute will be held February 17 th in Shreveport. Our host hotel for the event is the Hilton Hotel Shreveport. The symposium will take place at the Shreveport Convention Center which is connected to the Hilton. This is the first time to have the symposium in Shreveport; next year it will probably be somewhere on the east coast. So, please take advantage of it! You can find the registration form at www.stephendleeinstitute.com

As you can see, there is no excuse in suffering from cabin fever this winter---activities abound!

Perseverate in Pugna! J. C. Hanna Commander Louisiana Division

Friends;

With calendar year 2017 behind us, I hope that you had both a blessed Christmas season and a happy New Year’s holiday. January is when Southerners honor our Confederate ancestors. It is also a time to remember compatriots, as well as family and friends, who have gone before us. I again encourage each of you to attend at least one upcoming Lee-Jackson Banquet, and share fellowship with friends. We registered setbacks in 2017 and some successes, but our Confederate spirit is still strong. Statues, memorials, street and building names honoring Confederates and other American heroes continue to come under fire across this land. Polls show that the majority of the general public are not in favor of these changes, but the cowardice of spineless public officials reigns supreme. For now, Confederate monuments still stand on Monument Avenue in Richmond, the park formerly known as Forrest in Memphis, and on the courthouse grounds in Shreveport. Oversized Confederate flags fly well above various highways in an increasing number of states (hopefully we can get some here soon). Confederate re-enactors carrying battle flags are still visible in a number of parades. (Heck in the 2017 West Baton Rouge Parade of Veterans, our honor guard (with Confederate Nationals, Battle, and Division flags whipping in the breeze) was not just visible, it was at the head of the parade – third in line behind only a Boy Scout U.S. color guard and the Parade Grand Marshall vehicles.) Whenever there is a heritage violation and your Confederate blood begins to boil: speak up, voice your opinion and register your displeasure. Write, call or email your federal, state or local government official; attend and speak or fill out an opinion card at a council meeting or hearing; write in to the local paper; call in to a radio talk show. Always conduct yourself as the honorable Southerner you are. And if you attend any gathering, watch your surroundings and stay safe! I hope to see you at a Lee-Jackson Banquet, a Camp meeting, the Krewe of Janus Parade in Monroe on February 3 rd and/or some other worthwhile event. Please contribute to their success.

God Save the South.

Randy Jarreau First Lieutenant Commander

2 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord Luke 2:11

Roughly 2017 years ago a baby was born. His ancestry was impeccable. He was a descendant of King David. He was royalty. But this Child King was like no other. He was born in a barn, wrapped in rags and place in a feed trough. It was an unusual beginning for a king and an even more unusual life. For you see, he was born for a purpose. He was to become a sacrificial lamb. He was destined to die in a most cruel manner. He was God’s only son born of a pure woman. He knew no sin. He was the only man on earth that lived a perfect, blameless life. Yet he was to be blamed for ALL the sins of the world. The shame, the guilt of every man, woman and child that ever lived and ever will live was placed upon Him. He paid for my sins. He paid for your sins. Why? It is very simple. For God so loved the world (Us), that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Therefore, we celebrate Christmas. The gifts we give symbolize the perfect gift given by God. Salvation through the Christ Child is that perfect gift. It is free, unconditionally. Salvation is yours. Accept the gift for Christmas this year. May joy and peace through the Christ Child be yours this season and the years to come.

3 Compatriots of the Louisiana Division:

I would like to announce my candidacy for the position of Commander of the Louisiana Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans. I joined the SCV on June 1, 2000, as a member of the Henry Watkins Allen Camp 133 of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My camp has allowed me to serve in several positions: Color Sergeant, First Lt. Commander, and since 2005 as Commander. As I continue to be impressed and inspired by the men of this division, I feel that the people skills I possess can keep us working together to a common goal, that of living up to the Charge of Stephen Dill Lee. Who, if not the SCV, will defend the Confederate soldier’s good name? It has also been my honor to serve the Louisiana Division as Chief-of-Staff under three commanders (Chuck McMichael, Ted Brode, and Thomas Taylor), and I am currently the First Lt. Commander. I am a member of the Louisiana State Militia Tenth Brigade, a “War of Northern Aggression Living History and Re-enactment Group.” Over the years I have enjoyed supporting many of your events around the state, as well as other SCV events around the South. I have been fortunate enough to have attended all National Reunions since 2000, save for two. On a more personal note, I am a native and life-long resident of Pointe Coupee Parish – as were my parents, who raised sugarcane and cattle. My wife, Stephanie, and I share five children and thirteen grandchildren (who range in age from twenty-three to three). A graduate of Louisiana State University, I am currently an Audit Manager with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. I will retire from La DOTD on March 30, 2018 (with over 38 years of service). In my younger days I was a youth baseball coach (for over twenty years). My wife and I are LSU sports enthusiasts and have followed the Tigers in football, baseball and basketball – far and wide. I am proud to be a member of the SCV and would appreciate your support.

It is time, once again, to line up for the Krewe of Janus Mardi Gras parade winding through West Monroe and Monroe. February 3, 2018 is the date to mark on your calendars for the big event. Participation in this largest of parades that will still have us as marchers has fallen off in recent years during a time when we are wondering what can be done to keep our colors in front of the public.

To get to the starting point from east or west on I-20 exit on the Stella/Mill exit in West Monroe and go South to the first traffic light. Turn left on Natchitoches and go about 500 yards to the Ouachita Parish Health Unit. We will be the guys in uniform across the street. Please plan to be there for 3:30 as the streets close at 4:00 for the parade.

Be prepared for a long walk as the parade is almost 5 miles long. Be ready to fire your muskets a lot! Bring enough cartridges and caps to fire around 70 times. The organizers of the parade like our participation and in recent years have wondered why there weren't more of us there considering they want us and so many do not. Put on your Confederate duds or Mech Cav wear and come meet in West Monroe. Hope to see y'all there.
