ANNUAL SHOW (Founded 1832) MULL & MORVERN AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY ANNUAL SHOW (Founded 1832) GLENAROS - MULL THURSDAY 10TH AUGUST 2017 Souvenir Programme Price £1.50 Proud to support the Salen Show Wishing everyone a successful and enjoyable show day! HEAD OFFICE Craignure 01680 812475 A Note from the Show President I am writing as the new Show President, having taken over from Garth Reade who has done a great job for the last 3 years. It is an honour to continue to support the show as my family has done for many years. This year we have said goodbye to Richard Fairbairns and on behalf of the committee I would like to thank him for all his hard work as Secretary & Treasurer. We have managed to fill Richard’s shoes (somewhat muddy after last year) by recruiting Sue Morley as Treasurer and Jo Weston as Secretary. Together the committee will ensure the Show continues as a great day for all involved. A new attraction this year is the Rodeo Bull which should provide some entertainment, and Chainsaw Art – some of the pieces will be raffled at the end of the show so make sure you buy your tickets. We have new sponsors and new trophies to award in Horticulture, Dog Show, Cattle and Horse & Pony classes. So fine weather would be most welcome but after last year we know it’s not essential to enjoying the day! Good Luck to All Colum Everyone is welcome to join us for a ‘Blether and B-B-Q’ after the main prizegiving Public Address courtesy of Rob MacDonald ETF SOUND SYSTEMS - 3 - OFFICIALS PRESIDENT: Mr C Scott, Glenaros HON. Christopher remembered, that when he was on his travels in 2007 as chairman of the National Beef Association, he was taken by Robert Forster (Founder and Director of the NBA) to a farm near Otterburn where he was impressed by a herd of Luing Cows. The farmer and his son explained that when the weather was driving rain and sleet, other breeds would seek shelter but Luings remained grazing in the open. At a local show I bumped into Ron Smith, the retired farm manager of a large farm in the middle of Exmoor where they used to cross Galloways with Leigh Farm, Exmoor a Whitebred Shorthorn bull to produce Blue Greys in the 1980’s. ARGYLL & BUTE COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS, ISLE OF MULL) (WEIGHT AND LENGTH RESTRICTIONS) (AMENDMENT) ORDER 20-- The Chairman invited Mr Brown to outline the proposals. Mr Brown intimated that in 1980 a restriction of 13 tonnes was introduced on most of the rural side roads on Mull, based on the total laden weight of the vehicle. This was an increase on the engineers’ original proposal of 8 tonnes as the minor roads on Mull were, at that time, considered to be in such a poor condition. The absence of a weighbridge made it very difficult for the police to enforce these restrictions.
