Yorke Peninsula’s Massive May!

This month is gearing up to be ‘Massive May’ on Yorke Peninsula with a huge line up of events. From the – the world’s biggest Cornish Festival, to the Rock ‘n Rev Weekend, dragon boat racing, markets and the Port Hughes fishing competition.

“May is a fantastic time to head to Yorke Peninsula and we’re blessed with so many diverse events this month” says Yorke Peninsula Tourism Manager Jo Barrie. “The Kernewek Lowender is a fantastic celebration of Cornish culture with over 60 events. Everyone gets involved, from dressing up as Cousin Jacks & Jenny’s to taking part in the , sampling a traditional Cornish or trying Swanky - a traditional Cornish beer, there is something for everyone.”

“Massive May kicks off with the Rock ‘n Rev Weekend, including Rock for Sailing Club, Saturday night followed by the Aussie Muscle Car Sprints at the Copper Coast Airport, on Sunday with muscle and classic car sprints, a show ‘n shine and aircraft displays,” says Ms Barrie.

There’s also the Port Hughes Fishing Competition, dragon boat racing, an array of markets all through the month and exhibitions at local galleries.

The About Time History Festival is on throughout May in South Australia, and there are plenty of Yorke Peninsula museums, galleries and groups taking part. You can do a guided or self-guided tour at Yorketown, Moonta, Stansbury, Kadina and Wallaroo; view special exhibitions; and listen to heritage stories from a local.
