17-24 May 2015

The 2015 Kernewek Lowender is on next week!!

With excitement all is set for the 2015 Kernewek Lowender Cornish Festival, set to bring the Copper Coast alive next week!

The program of a record 60 events to run from 17-24 May is seen as one of the best ever, well catering for the 35,000 plus crowds expected to again converge on the South Australian towns of Kadina, Moonta and Wallaroo for this major SA cultural event.

Known as the world’s largest Cornish Festival, the 2015 event marks its 21st birthday, having been held every two years on the Copper Coast since 1973.

The secret to its longevity is its authentic and unique offerings of fun and feasting, pulled together by some 300 hard working locals who are justifiably proud of the region’s significant Cornish heritage.

Hundreds dress as Cornish Jacks and Jennies, thousands of Cornish are consumed, Swanky beer is swilled (this year with its special 21st label), and crowds fill town squares for the spectacle that is the maypole and furry dancing.

Necks crane to view the Procession and the Cavalcade of Cars & Motorcycles and people travel thousands of miles to experience the Gathering of the Bards and the Dressing of the Graves.

Many events are free, including the Drakes Foodland Moonta Parade & Street Party, the NYP Rotary Village Green Fair, rotunda entertainment, Dressing the Graves, Maypole, , the Giant Bake-off and the Gathering of the Bards. Ticketed events include Kernow King Comedy, Cornish Troyl Dinner Dance, Bonanza Variety Concert, Country Music Concert, Meet the Cornish, A Night of Harmony, Seafarer’s Bounty, Feast or Famine, Sacred Concert, Cornish Pasty workshops, Lesson, and the Cornish Seminar.
