AMERICAN JEWISH YEAR BOOK A Record of Events iind Trends in American and World Jewish Life 1979 AMERICAN JEWISH COMMITTEE AND JEWISH PUBLICATION SOCIETY OF AMERICA The 1979 AMERICAN JEWISH YEAR BOOK, the seventy-ninth in the series, continues to offer a unique chronicle of developments in areas of concern to Jews throughout the world. The present volume features Professor Charles Liebman s "Leadership and Decision-making in a Jewish Federation." This in- depth study of the New York Fed- eration of Jewish Philanthropies provides important insights into the changing outlook of American Jews, and the impact this is having on Jewish communal priorities. Another feature is Professor Leon Shapiro's "Soviet Jewry Since the Death of Stalin," an authoritative overview of Jewish life in the So- viet Union during the past twenty- five years. Particularly noteworthy is Professor Shapiro's emphasis on religious life and cultural endeavors. The review of developments in the United States includes Milton Ellerin's "Intergroup Relations"; George Gruen's "The United States, Israel and the Middle East"; and Geraldine Rosenfield's "The Jewish Community Responds to (Continued on back flap) $15. www.doew.at Anton Maegerle Die iranische Rechtsextremisten-Connection Ersterschienen im Vierteljahresheft Tribüne. Zeitschrift zum Verständnis des Judentums (Frankfurt am Main). 2. Quartal 2006, Heft 178.

Funkhouser (Fellows Advisor) (Executive Director) April 2001 Group: Humanities ABSTRACT The New Voice of Antisemitism: Recent Holocaust Negationist Literature in America. (April 2001) Jami Lee John Department of English Texas A&M University Fellows Advisor: Dr. David Myers Department of English This honors thesis argues that the literature of Holocaust negationism is a repackaging of classical antisemitism. The propositional content of negationist discourse is less significant, I argue, than its rhetoric. And its rhetoric unmasks the truth about negationism: its primary concern is not the Holocaust at all, but an "international Jewish conspiracy" that is behind the "Holocaust hoax. " It is a bad mistake, then, for liberal academics and scholars to treat negationism as merely "the other side" of the "Holocaust story, " and to protect its right to a hearing. The reality

  • Chapter Eight
chapter eight HUMAN RIGHTS LAW . Introduction The subject of human rights is today one of the most motivated and sig- nificant subjects of public international law. The subject has, commonly speaking, been developed for the protection of the fundamental rights of individuals in different situations after the establishment of the United Nations Organization. It is on this ground that the Declaration of Human Rights of constitutes the basic and the most anticipated instrument in the field of human rights in the system of international law. Islamic international law does not have, however, a separate body like the public international law denoting its human rights law. Contrary to international law, human rights in Islamic international law can be found in every rule of Islamic law which has some connection with social and ethical relations. It is for this reason that although the human rights law in public international law constitutes an integral part of its system, it is almost entirely a separate body of innovated principles gathering the rights of individuals in their social conducts. Human rights in Islamic international law are, however, not an innovation.1 They are rather a fact which exists within its sources and have today been collected and formulated in a separate international document as the public international law. In this chapter, we will deal with the norms of the Islamic human rights law constituting an inseparable body of Islamic law since its revelation in ad. Some of the most basic provisions of Islamic human rights law are analysed in individual sections in order to express the importance of the relevant principles of the law and emphasize that the human rights law exists in Islam, although these rights have been strongly violated by many Islamic States.

FINAL REPORT of the International Commission on the Holocaust in Romania Presented to Romanian President Ion Iliescu November 11, 2004 Bucharest, Romania NOTE: The English text of this Report is currently in preparation for publication. © International Commission on the Holocaust in Romania. All rights reserved. DISTORTION, NEGATIONISM, AND MINIMALIZATION OF THE HOLOCAUST IN POSTWAR ROMANIA Introduction This chapter reviews and analyzes the different forms of Holocaust distortion, denial, and minimalization in post-World War II Romania. It must be emphasized from the start that the analysis is based on the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s definition of the Holocaust, which Commission members accepted as authoritative soon after the Commission was established. This definition1 does not leave room for doubt about the state-organized participation of Romania in the genocide against the Jews, since during the Second World War, Romania was among those allies and a collaborators of Nazi Germany that had a systematic plan for the persecution and annihilation of the Jewish population living on territories under their unmitigated control. In Romania’s specific case, an additional “target-population” subjected to or destined for genocide was the Romany minority. This chapter will employ an adequate conceptualization, using both updated recent studies on the Holocaust in general and new interpretations concerning this genocide in particular. Insofar as the employed conceptualization is concerned, two terminological clarifications are in order. First, “distortion” refers to attempts to use historical research on the dimensions and significance of the Holocaust either to diminish its significance or to serve political and propagandistic purposes. Although its use is not strictly confined to the Communist era, the term “distortion” is generally employed in reference to that period, during which historical research was completely subjected to controls by the Communist Party’s political censorship.

Contact: [email protected] Holocaust-Denial Literature: A Third Bibliography John A. Drobnicki This bibliography is a supplement to two earlier ones published in the March 1994 and Decem- ber 1996 issues of the Bulletin of Bibliography. During the intervening time, Holocaust revision- ism has continued to be discussed in both the scholarly literature and the mainstream press. The Holocaust deniers, who prefer to call themselves “revisionists” in an attempt to gain scholarly le- gitimacy, have refused to go away and remain as vocal as ever— Bradley R. Smith has contin- ued to send revisionist advertisements to college newspapers, generating publicity for his cause. Holocaust-denial, which will be used interchangeably with Holocaust revisionism in this bib- liography, is a body of literature that seeks to “prove” that the Jewish Holocaust did not hap- pen. Although individual revisionists may have different motives and beliefs, they all share at least one point: that there was no systematic attempt by Nazi Germany to exterminate Euro- pean Jewry. Hence, they claim that the Holocaust is a “hoax” perpetrated by Jews (“Zionists”) in an attempt to blackmail the rest of the world for sympathy, money, and legitimacy for the state of Israel.

In the years following the war, the actions committed during the Holocaust were deemed “crimes against humanity,” and many senior members of the Nazi government were brought to justice. Despite the clear historical record, there are some people who choose to deny the Holocaust ever happened. They label themselves “revisionists,” pretending to be part of the legitimate historical practice of revisionism and claiming to be searching for the “truth.” But unlike actual revisionists who genuinely attempt to revise history, Holocaust “revisionists” merely spread false propaganda and are better known as Holocaust deniers.
