4 CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2012 / 2013 CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2012 / 2013 33 ‘I think anyone who has a decent knowledge of football at this level will appreciate how tough this seasons’ Premier League is ..’

Our last home game against Pollok might not have seen us turn in our most stylish of performance of the season but you won’t hear any complaints from me because I just thought it was a really good three points for us to bank. Once again I was delighted with the players’ attitude as they went about their business with plenty of desire and commitment. I would obviously rather Moff had stuck away his late penalty as it would have been an easier final ten minutes or so for us all but anyway, we got there in the end. I am satisfied that we are keeping our head above the water as far as the league table is con- cerned. I think anyone who has a decent knowledge of football at this level will appreciate how tough this seasons’ Premier League is and if you take a close look at the league table you’ll soon appreciate what I’m talking about. Unlike previous years there are no whipping boys in this league and as far as I can see there are no easy games. The team currently at the bottom of the league [Shotts] are Scottish Cup holders and have recently made it through to the last eight again this season. Only two places above them are last season league champions and the club with possibly the biggest wage bill in Junior football, Irvine Meadow. Even at this stage the fight to finish above the play-off position looks like developing in to a tense affair for some reputable clubs. So, I know we’re not out the woods yet but taking everything into account I think our boys are currently doing okay and long may that continue. The big games keep coming again this week as we welcome Auchinleck Talbot to Holm Park. The Ayrshire outfit are currently hot favourites to win the Premier league and to be honest; it wouldn’t be a massive surprise if they added the Scottish Cup to that! Our first half capitulation at Beechwood in late October was probably our worst showing this season and despite gaining a bit of pride with an improved second half display, I certainly don’t want to find myself in a similar position at half-time in today’s game! Not that we need it but an added incentive for us today is the fact that a victory would move us into third posi- tion in the league due to Rob Roy playing a Scottish Cup tie, therefore I’m really looking forward to this challenge. If we are to take anything from this game we’ll need everyone in a Bankies jersey playing at the top of their game. The players will also need all the help possible if they are to achieve that target and once again any vocal assistance from the terracing would be appreciated.

Onwards & upwards. Billy McGhie

Talbot kicked off their season in group four of the Ayrshire sectional league cup alongside Cumnock, Glenafton Athletic, Kello Rovers, Lugar Boswell Thistle and Muirkirk. They began with a comfortable four goal home win over Lugar and followed that up with a 5-2 win at Kello Rovers. They then suffered a 1-0 away defeat at the hands of fellow Premier Division side Glenafton 2012-13 Career but put that result behind them two days later with an eight goal demolition of Muirkirk. That match saw six goals shared but Talbot kept their nerve in the resultant penalty shoot-out to go through to the semi Mark Hailstones 1 4 2 1 1 7 2 241 64 305 65 -final where they were given the chance to face Glenafton again and perhaps reverse that result from the sectional game. This Martin McInnes 2 1 11 1 1 2 1 17 1 1 194 4 198 7 time Auchinleck managed to rise to the Loch Park challenge and won 3-2 to qualify for the Bellsdale Park final where old foes Paul Allum 4 1 9 2 1 1 1 1 15 3 2 139 24 163 14 Irvine Meadow lay in wait. The final witnessed the two Ayrshire giants fight out a 4-4 draw but it was Meadow who triumphed in Ross Campbell 3 7 1 2 1 12 1 1 121 5 126 9 the penalty decider winning 4-2 to wrest the trophy from last season’s winners. Gordon Moffat 1 11 1 2 2 2 1 17 1 2 74 3 77 11 The Beechwood Park side began their league campaign with a trip to New Cumnock to face Glenafton Athletic, who had Ross McPherson 2 2 2 12 7 1 1 2 1 1 18 2 11 47 29 76 25 beaten them just one week earlier, and came away with the points from a narrow 1-0 win. Auchinleck Talbot then went on an excel- Robert Hamilton 4 12 2 2 1 21 53 53 lent winning run, picking up eighteen points from their next six matches. That run of six games began at joint top Petershill Andy Paterson 4 8 1 2 15 48 48 where Auchinleck won by the only goal. In the West of Scotland Cup they exited Ryan Kelly 5 2 2 1 1 9 2 9 2 11 at the first time of asking when lowly Wishaw defeated them, winning 3-2. However Talbot always save their best for the Scot- Scott Walker 3 1 1 1 5 1 5 1 6 tish Cup and have made it to the quarter final stage yet again. They were given a first round bye before being drawn out of the Dale Clark 2 2 2 2 6 2 6 6 2 hat at home to Dalkeith Thistle from the East Region’s Premier League. The nine times winners proved to be too strong for the Midlothian side and won through to the next round after a 6-1 win. A second minute Keir Milliken goal Trialist AR 1 1 1 1 was enough to see last season’s runners-up through to the next round. The fourth round draw threw up a cracker with Auch- Allan MacPherson 1 1 1 1 inleck Talbot given a home tie against then joint top of the table Petershill. That game ended in an incredible 7-0 rout albeit Craig McPherson that Petershill had two players ordered off back in January. The fifth round paired Talbot with Lochee United but the Dundee outfit proved no match as the Ayrshire men progressed to the quarter final after a 3-1 win.

Clydebank have a rather poor record against Auchinleck Talbot. In five previous meetings between the sides Bankies have won just once. The first meeting of the two clubs was at on the last day of May in 2009. In a blazing hot day these two teams played in the final of the Scottish Cup where the Bot emerged victorious after a 2-1 win - with Chris Mackie scoring a great goal for Clydebank on the day.

Top Goalscorers We didn’t have long to wait for the next meeting as the sides were paired together in the Scottish Cup for a fifth round tie at Beechwood Park the following season. This time a Stevie Dallas goal was all that separated the sides as Clyde- bank progressed to the quarter final. The next three meetings were all Premier Division clashes. The first was here at Player Team League Cups Total Holm Park in November 2011 where the sides fought out a no scoring draw. In the return game Auchinleck Talbot took Ian Diack Rob Roy 8 12 20 the points from a 2-0 win. The last meeting between the sides came earlier this season when Talbot turned on the style Andy Reid Beith 4 16 20 in an impressive first half display to lead 5-0 at the break. Clydebank fared much better in the second half to pull a goal Paul Woods Petershill 10 9 19 back through Joe Andrew but that result is still the heaviest league defeat Clydebank have suffered since that awful day Carlo Monti Pollok 3 15 18 at Western Park when Renfrew won 6-1, despite Clydebank opening the scoring! The sides have also met in friendlies Chris Hall Ashfield 11 2 13 over the years but again Bankies have failed to win any of these. In July 2005 Clydebank earned a creditable 2-2 draw Richie Barr Irvine Meadow 4 9 13 when David Fisher and Mark Hailstones each got on the score sheet. One year later was a more emphatic performance by the Ayrshire men when they won 5-1 with Bankies goal actually being scored by a Talbot player. League Division 1 Saturday 9th February

Clydebank FC 21' s 5 - 3 Bonnyton Thistle 21's

Scorers - Ross Easton (2), Craig McCutcheon (2), Gavin McQueen

Played really well in this game and thoroughly deserved the 3 points - we were 4-1 up the had a man sent off, we then scored a 5th - before Bonnyton got a couple of late goals.

Squad - C Easton, R Fairie, J Griffin-Ross, G McQueen, R Fleming, K Cruickshank, R Easton, K Roberts, M Fleming, C McCutcheon, R Hutchison, F Urquhart, M Bird, A Rodgers, R Jackson

Saturday 16th February

Steins Thistle 21's 2 - 0 Clydebank FC 21's

We also played well in this away match - crucially we missed a penalty just on half-time which would have levelled the score at 1-1. We totally dominated the 2nd half but unfortunately we missed 4/5 really good opportunities before Steins scored a late second to seal the victory.

Calling on all Clydebank FC supporters - Season 2013 - 2014

We still have a lot to play for in this season 2012 - 13, however we are now also starting to prepare for next season as we will lose a good number of players in the summer. We are trying to cast our net for fresh talent a bit further than our own network so we would be delighted to hear from any Clydebank FC supporter who knows or can recommend any player born after 1st January 1992 - ideally who have the potential to go on and play for your 'team'. If you know or can think of anyone we should be speaking to please contact Dougy on 07906 377245.

This week Titan caught up with young Bankies midfielder, Ian Gold.

What is your earliest football memory?

My dad has always taken me to see Scotland play. My earliest and most fond memory was when Scotland scored their second goal against Latvia and my uncle lifted me upside down to celebrate.

Favourite ground played at?

In my Drumchapel 21s days we won the Lucozade Sport Power League and played at Old Trafford winning 1-0.

Your favourite goal for Bankies?

My favourite goal for the Bankies was my goal against Pollok. I had played well in a friendly during the week and the gaffer handed me my competitive debut. I scored the equaliser in a 5-4 victory. Pollok had a corner in which I was on the back post. We counter attacked them and I ran the full length of the pitch to slot home my first competitive goal.

After starting your Bankies career in centre midfield, you seem to have settled well out wide. where do you see yourself playing long term?

Centre midfield is a position I've always enjoyed. But we have great players in there like Vinnie, Tommy, Moff and Ryan who are playing well. I enjoy playing on the wings or just off the striker. Preferably left midfield. Driving past players using my pace has been an asset which I've been using well recently and I see no reason why I can't continue doing that.

What is your ambition in football?

Im enjoying playing at the top level of junior football and I will always look to be there. However, going senior has always been a dream of mine and if I could do that one day it would mean the world to me.

Most memorable match for Bankies?

I`d say that's a tough choice between Pollok away last season and Bathgate away this year. Probably the Bathgate game away, I didn't score in that game but it was one of the best games I`ve ever played. Everything i touched and done that game turned to gold.

Best thing about playing for Bankies?

My dad is from Clydebank and is a long term Clydebank fan. I know I am making him proud and that's a big thing for me.

Hobbies/pastimes outside of football?

I like to keep myself fit for obvious reasons. I go to the gym four times a week and I usually go out for dinner with my friends at the week- ends.

Best player you`ve played with?

Theres a lot of players I've played with in my Drumchapel team who were fantastic footballers. the likes of Sean Pierce, who scored 54 goals in 39 games for us, a sensational record. But to be honest, im really enjoying playing football next to Vinnie Berry and Tommy Martin at the moment. two cracking footballers. But wee Vinnie might just have the edge, the guy is a fantastic footballer, a joy to watch and play along- side.

Thanks again Goldie, especially at such late notice. (cheers fixture guy!)
