It is intended as a guide for instructors of apprenticeship classes. Practical instruction by demonstration and student participation should be integrated with classroom sessions. Safe working practices, even though not specified in each operation or topic are an implied part of the program and should be stressed. The Program Outline was prepared with the advice and assistance of the Director of Apprenticeship’s Trade Advisory Committee, comprising representatives of labour and management and in cooperation with representatives of Colleges and Institutes. Mr. Dennis Reid, the subject-matter expert, developed this course outline in conjunction with eth Learning Resources Unit of BCIT. Describe saw filing Maintain cutting edges Align and set-up equipment saws and knives are used on Maintain the saw plate of circular saws (called anvil work) and of band saws (called bench work) Grind chipper knives, profile knives and hog knives Carry out babbitt, shimming and balancing procedures 2. Describe the role of a Circular Saw Filer Must be a qualified Saw Fitter Bench all circular and gang saws Perform various operations on these and other saws Other operations performed on saws including circular and gang saws· are o sharpening o adjusting o levelling o tensioning o welding cracks o welding teeth Use automatic and manual grinding procedures Use automatic and manual benching procedures Remove twists, level and plumb saws Maintenance tasks as aligning circular head rigs and edgers Maintenance tasks of all related saws and equipment 5.
