Definition in NAC 388.500: Alternative Program defined- alternative program means a program operated by a district in accordance with NRS 388.537 for the education of pupils at risk of dropping out of school. NRS 388.537: An alternative program may include: A shorter school day or an opportunity for pupils to attend a longer school day than that regularly provided in the school district. An opportunity for pupils to attend classes of instruction during any part of the calendar year. A comprehensive curriculum that includes elective classes of instruction and career and technical education An opportunity for pupils to obtain academic credit through experience gained at work or while engaged in other activities An opportunity for pupils to satisfy either the requirements for a regular high school diploma or the requirements for an adult standard diploma The provision of child care for the children of pupils The transportation of pupils to and from classes of instruction The placement of pupils for independent study ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAMS In the Clark County School District, our Alternative Education Division serves: • Students who have been temporarily or permanently removed form the setting as a result of documented behavioral incidents • Students identified as dropouts • Students who are either severely behind on credits or have demonstrated a pattern of failing grades • Students with barriers prohibiting attendance at a comprehensive school site • Students who benefit from a small, personalized school setting • Students awaiting adjudication • Students who have been adjudicated

Continuation Schools: Schools that serve students who have committed serious discipline infractions, including mandatory expellable offenses, as defined by NRS 392.466 and CCSD Regulation 5141.1. Students are typically assigned to one of our three continuation campuses for no less than one academic semester up to one calendar year. There are separate campuses for and high school. Behavior Schools: Schools that serve students who have committed less serious infractions and/or students who have exhibited a pattern of discipline infractions within the last school year. Students are typically assigned to one of our behavior schools for a period of four to nine weeks. Combined campuses serving both middle and high school students. Choice Schools: Schools that serve students who prefer or require a non-traditional academic setting. Choice schools operate both a horizon (day) and sunset (evening) schedule, and allow concurrent enrollment allowing credit deficient students to take classes in both sessions to make up missing credits. Students choose to attend our choice schools based on needs and location.

PROGRAM EXPLANATION

Correctional Schools: Correctional schools serve students who have been adjudicated and sentenced and/or students who have been arrested but are in the process of adjudication. Correctional schools serve juvenile students as well as adult students. Correctional schools are operated by the Clark County School District within the Department of Justice jurisdiction. Adult Schools: Schools that serve adult students. Our adult schools prepare students to earn an Adult Standard High School Diploma or to pass the General Education Development Test (GED) or the High School Equivalency Assessments. Our adult education schools also provide career and technical training in an effort to prepare students for employment opportunities.
