BASIC COURSE OUTLINE

A. Objectives Upon completion of the course the students are expected to: 1. demonstrate a good understanding of forms of English words in different uses and constructions, 2. have deeper insights into morphological process, and 3. have skills in morphological analyses.

B. Description This course is both theoretical and practical in nature. It is theoretical in that it provides the students with considerable knowledge of morphological terms and process. It is practical in that it helps the students to develop their skills in morphological analyses. The topics cover morphological terms, morphological processes, and morphological analyses on words in English and other languages.

C. Materials Words in English and other languages are used as materials to be analyzed. They are analyzed on the basis of the following topics: 1. word, word-form, lexemes 2. morphemes, allomorphs 3. roots, bases, affixes 4. free morphemes, bound morphemes 5. affixation: suffixes, prefixes, circumfixes, infixes, interfixes, transfixes 6. inflection, derivation 7. reduplication 8. blends, clipped words, acronyms

Attendance : 10% To sit for the final test, the students are required to attend at least 75% of the activities in the classroom. Grades will be awarded to the students who complete the four assessment components.
