8/27/2015 Koh M/C Journal, Vol. 12, No. 2 (2009) - 'enthuse' "Gently Caress Me, I Love Chris Jericho": Pro Wrestling Fans "Marking Out" http://journal.media-culture.org.au/index.php/mcjournal/article/view/143 Wilson Koh “A bunch of faggots for watching men hug each other in tights.” For the past five Marches, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has produced an awards show which honours its aged former performers, such as Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, as prowrestling Legends. This awards show, according to WWE, is ‘an elegant, emotional, starstudded event that recognizes the in ring achievements of the inductees and offers historical insights into this centuryold sportsentertainment attraction’ (WWE.com, n.p.). In an episodic storyline leading up to the 2009 awards, however, the reallife personal shortcomings of these Legends have been brought to light, and subsequently mocked in oneonone interview segments with WWE’s Superstar of the Year 2008, the dastardly Chris Jericho. Jericho caps off these tirades by physically assaulting the Legends with handy stage props. Significantly, the performances of Jericho and his victims have garnered positive attention not only from mass audiences unaware of backstage happenings in WWE, but also from the informed community of prowrestling fans over at the nihilistic humour website SomethingAwful. During Jericho’s assault on the Legend Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka at the March 02 WWE Raw event, a WWEthemed forum thread on SomethingAwful logged over sixty posts all reiterating variations of ‘gently caress me Jericho is amazing’ (Jerusalem, n.p.).

The squad was only coach Robert Zuppke’s second at Illinois and would be the first of four national championship teams he would lead in his 29 years at Illinois. The Fighting Illini defense shut out four of its seven opponents, yielding only 22 points the entire 1914 season, and the averaged up an incredible 32 points per game, in cluding a 51-0 shellacking of Indiana on Oct. 10. This team was so good that no one scored a point against them until Oct. 31, the fifth game of the seven-game season. The closest game of the year, two weeks later, wasn’t very close at all, a 21-7 home decision over Chicago. Leading the way for Zuppke’s troops was right halfback Bart Macomber. He led the team in scoring. Left guard Ralph Chapman was named to Walter Camp’s first-team All-America squad, while left halfback Harold Pogue, the team’s second-leading scorer, was named to Camp’s second team. 1919 The 1919 team was the only one of Zuppke’s national cham pi on ship squads to lose a game. DISPUTE REVIEW BOARD RECOMMENDATION July 25, 2003 E-Mailed July 25, 2003 Mr. Tony Harvey Mr. Mike Knox Project Engineer Project Manager Genesis Group Hubbard Construction Company 14161 SR-54 105 N. Falkenburg Road – Suite D Odessa, Florida 33556 Tampa, Florida 33619 E-Mail ([email protected]) E-Mail ([email protected]) RE: FPN: 258861 1 5201 Federal Aid No.: 2757 346 I SPN 15190-3401 Contract No.: 20489 SR-93 (I-275) from East of Gandy Blvd. to East of Roosevelt Blvd. Pinellas County Subject: Claim Issue – Replacement Cost for High Mast Lighting Conduit Conflict at Ramp D1 Dear Sirs: The Owner, Florida Department of Transportation (Department), and Hubbard Construction Company (Hubbard) requested a hearing to determine entitlement for replacement costs for high mast lighting pull boxes, conduit and conductors placed by Hubbard’s subcontractor, Highway Safety Devices, Inc. (HSD), on the project. Should entitlement be established, the Parties were to negotiate the quantum of such entitlement. Pertinent issues, correspondence and other information relating to the Department’s and the Contractor’s positions were forwarded to this Board for review and discussion at the hearing that was held on July 21, 2003. DEPARTMENT’S POSITION: Issue: The matter in dispute arises out of erroneously misplaced high mast lighting pull boxes, conduit, and conductors constructed as part of financial project number 258861, the Contractor having placed such out of the plan location. This work was located along the existing northbound 1-275 on-ramp from westbound Roosevelt Boulevard (Ramp D-1). During the construction of subsequent financial project number 258870, the pull boxes, conduit, and conductors were discovered to be in conflict with the proposed ramp D-1.
