On August 13 on Raw, they had a match with The B-Team for the Couples Championships in a Triple Threat Match including in the fight for The Revival where Hardy and Wyatt lost the match. After this, Hardy revealed that he was taking a break because his back had fused with his pelvis, effectively dissolving the equipment. On November 2, he returned to the ring at a WWE Live Event in Madrid, Spain. 2019-2020 On February 26, 2019, he would return to the string in the live edition, partnering with his brother Jeff again, facing The Bar, already recovered from his injuries. He returned on the Raw on November 25, being defeated by . On the December 16 Raw, he participated in a Gauntlet Match for an opportunity at the King Mysterio United States Championship, entering #4, but was eliminated by . In early 2020, Matt's departure from WWE was rumoured to be imminent, as his contract expired in March and there was no news of renewal. The cause was for creative, not economic reasons. On the February 20 Raw he was defeated by . In February he faced Randy Orton, incredulous for attacking Edge. Eventually, Randy would apply an RKO to Matt and give him a chair on the head. The following week, a barrier-free combat was planned on Raw between the two, but Matt did not receive discharge to fight. However, he went out again to frame Orton. This led to Orton's beating of Matt, hitting him several times with the chair on his head, having to be removed on a stretcher. On March 2, Hardy announced his WWE departure through his official YouTube channel, where Hardy said that although he is grateful to the people behind the scenes, he commented that he is also on different pages with WWE, as he feels he needs creative input and believes he still has more to give. [63] All Elite Wrestling (2020–present) On the March 18 edition of AEW Dynamite, Hardy made his debut under his broken personality when it was revealed that he was the fifth member (replacing the injured Nick Jackson) of The Elite in Blood and Guts. [64] On May 6 at Dynamite, Hardy fought in his first match with AEW, joining for a street fight against Le Sex Gods (Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara). Hardy and Omega lost when Jericho covered Omega. On May 13 at Dynamite, Hardy and Omega again teamed up to face Santana & Ortiz, this time winning after Hardy covered for Ortiz. [65] On May 20, Dynamite, Hardy fought in his first one-on-one B&a-step match at AEW, defeating Sammy Guevara by pinfall. [66] Hardy teamed up with The Elite against The Inner Circle in the first Stadium Stampede match in getting his victory. During the match, Santana and Ortiz immersed Hardy in the stadium pool, which acted as a version of Reincarnation Lake, while Hardy continued to repeat his various tricks throughout his career when he emerged. [67] Since then, he began referring to himself as the Multifarious Matt Hardy, which allowed him to take on any of his multiple tricks. Over the next few weeks, Hardy had his rivalry with Sammy Guevara. In Dynamite, Guevara broke down a chair shot and opened Hardy. Guevara defeated Hardy in a table fight. On September 5 at , Hardy and Guevara faced off in a Broken Rules Match. During combat, both fall against a table, but Hardy's head hits the ground. Hardy won the fight, but was sent to the hospital. [68] The following week, he announced that he would take some time off to recover. [69] Hardy's personal life and ex-girlfriend Amy Lita Dumas Matt is the eldest son of and Ruby Moore Hardy and the older brother of Jeff Hardy. [71] His mother died of brain cancer in 1986. [72] During his childhood, Hardy played baseball, a sport he continued to practice in college, but left during his senior year. [73] He was a football player, where he played linebacker or defensive end. [74] Hardy was a good student at Pines High School Union in North Carolina and was nominated for Award, a place for any university in the state. [75] Hardy attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he graduated in engineering; [76] but a year later he gave up his father's illness career. [77] He then attended Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, North Carolina, to graduate as an associate. [77] Matt is a good friend of Marty Garner, Shannon Moore and Gregory Helms. [79] She also had a six-year relationship with professional wrestler Lita. They met in January 1999, at an NWA Mid-Atlantic event, but did not leave until a few months later. [80] However, they broke up when Dumas began dating Matt's friend Adam Copeland, known as Edge in February 2005. [81] Despite staying apart, Matt has stated in several interviews that they remain good friends. [81] She also dated Ashley Massaro. [81] In February 2011, Hardy began dating Reby Sky. [82] Matt and Rebby married on October 5, 2013 at a ceremony held at their home in North Carolina. In November 2014 the couple announced that they were expecting their first child. Maxel Hardy was born on June 30, 2015. During the Total Nonstop Deletion (broadcast on December 16, 2016), Reby announced that she was pregnant for the second time which they themselves claimed will be a male in that special alongside their brother Jeff Hardy named them as the next generation of The Hardyz. Arrests, alleged and rehabilitation (2011) On August 20, according to the TMZ.com website, he announced on his page that Hardy had been arrested on August 20 in North Carolina for driving under alcohol effects. [83] Because of this, he was charged with reckless driving, citing him in court on 11 October. [84] Four days later, she had to be hospitalized as she fell down the stairs of her home. [85] On August 30, 2011, he uploaded to Youtube a video in which he said goodbye to his fans forever by saying: Goodbye world... My time here is almost complete... I only have a few more hours and minutes.... I love you all... No matter how they feel about me... I'll miss you all... September 23 1974 – August 31 2011, implying that he was going to commit suicide. [86] The video caught the attention of the police, went to his house to make sure he had not committed suicide. [87] Hours later he uploaded another video clarifying: All ... I'm more alive and well than ever ... the metamorphosis is complete ... Don't be scared, be excited ... August 31, 2011 is the beginning of my new Genesis ... referring to his retirement from . [88] On September 14, he was arrested for the second time in the month by North Carolina police for driving in a state of On September 19, he announced via YouTube that he would accept WWE's help, to submit to the Rehabilitation Program for former talent. [90] But a day later it was announced that a week ago, Matt was arrested again for the third time in the month but this time for drug possession. [91] On November 19, he was expelled from the rehabilitation program for failing a blood alcohol test. After failing, Hardy was arrested for violating the court order upon returning to North Carolina, facing a jail term on a million-dollar bail. Afterwards, he got out of jail on bail. [92] Matt as Broken. The Broken concept and litigation with Impact Wrestling (2016-2018) On May 17, 2016 in Impact Wrestling, Matt Hardy appeared disguised as Willow (a gimmick from his brother Jeff) only to attack his brother, revealing a new gimmick that would be revealed as Broken Matt Hardy. This consisted of a paranoid and bizarre character, who had a lock of gray hair and wore dark jackets and extravagant trench coats, whose obsessed mentality was initially directed against his brother Jeff (whom he goes to refer to as Nero, Jeff's middle name). On July 5 at Impact Wrestling, Matt defeated Jeff in a Final Deletion, a fighting style that would be part of Hardy's gimmick. From the rivalry between Matt and Jeff and the subsequent alliance between them, it is that the Broken Universe concept is released, which consisted of many particular terms and gimmicks given to Matt's environment. Due to the great success of the Broken Universe, Impact Wrestling managed to have a high level of popularity thanks to the Hardy brothers. After winning the TNA Couples Championships on March 3, 2016, he ended Matt and Jeff's contract with TNA and although negotiations were to renew, they both decided to leave the company. In order not to alter the plans within the company, the segment was created where Matt and Jeff announce the Expedition of Gold where they would depart in search of other championships in pairs in various wrestling promotions. With this, the vacant championships were declared. As part of the Expedition of Gold, Matt and Jeff won the ROH World Couples Championships among some titles elsewhere but due to the popularity of the Broken Universe, the new management of TNA Anthem Sports & Entertainment demanded that ROH not mention anything related to the concept while they were in that company. The problem was that Matt and Jeff had free creative control over the concept. Several legal battles would soon take place between Anthem and Hardy for control of the Broken Universe. This is increased by Rebecca Hardy's harsh criticism and references, Matt's wife, to Anthem through claiming about the Intellectual Authorship of the Broken Universe over Matt Hardy. In November 2017, Impact Wrestling changed its policy, allowing all wrestlers full control over their characters' intellectual property, but this decision would lose ownership over the Broken Universe, as under that term Hardy owns the concept. Due to Matt and Jeff's return to WWE and fan support, Vince McMahon's company decided to create a concept similar to the Broken Universe where Matt was nicknamed Woken, this so as not to struggle with the legal problems of the Broken concept. On January 31, 2018, the legal ruling was determined in favor of Hardy, who would own the Broken Universe, on the condition that it would only be so as long as it was used in the United States in various companies such as WWE and ROH. In December 2019 Matt Hardy stated that he wants to dedicate his remaining career to helping young wrestlers. [94] Broken Universe features As part of the Broken Universe, some characters such as Broken Matt Hardy: Name Given to Matt Hardy are involved. In WWE, he was renamed Woken Matt Hardy. Brother Nero: Name given to Jeff Hardy The Broken Hardys: Name given to the stable formed by Matt and Jeff. Vanguard 1: Name given to the drone Matt uses. Outside of this, there are others who were born as a result of the concept, such as: Queen Rebecca: Name given to Rebecca Hardy, Matt's wife. King Maxel: Name given to Maxel Hardy, eldest son of Matt and Rebecca. Lord : Name given to Wolfgang Hardy, youngest son of Matt and Rebecca. Mr. Benjamin: Name given to Matt's father-in-law and Rebecca's father. In addition, there are terms that originated with the Broken Universe: Delete / Obsolete: Terms used by Matt, Jeff and fans. Damascus: A term used by Matt to refer to a mystical force of force. This term began to be used since its entry into AEW. The Great War: A term used by Matt to refer to a tough rivalry. The Hardy Compound: Name given to Matt's home in Cameron, North Carolina. Dome of Deletion: Name given to Matt and Jeff's training site. Lake of Reincarnation: Name given to the lake that is located near Hardy's residence. Land of Obsolete Man: Name given to a terrain where there are several crosses (in the style of The Hardy Boyz). The Final Deletion: Name given to the fighting style where Matt participated. It is characterized by being located in Matt's residence, where there is an outdoor ring. The stipulation is a No Disqualification, No Holds Barred, No Count-out Match. In WWE, it was renamed The Ultimate Deletion. In the fight Hardy applied a Twist of Fate to Cesaro.
