The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation

GRANTS FOR 2017 LIST OF SELECTED APPROVED AND PAID GRANTS 2015 - 2017 GRANTS OVERVIEW

The Weinberg Foundation provides approximately $100 million in annual grants to nonprofits that provide direct services to low- income and vulnerable individuals and families, primarily in the United States and Israel. Grants are focused on meeting basic needs and enabling an individual to live as independently as possible. Within that focus, emphasis is placed on serving older adults and the Jewish community. In addition, the majority of the Foundation’s grants serve its priority communities: Maryland, Northeastern Pennsylvania, Hawaii, Greater Chicago, , San Francisco, and rural areas of the United States, as well as Israel. These areas are hometowns representing personal ties to the life and legacy of Harry Weinberg, as well as the Foundation’s trustees.

In Israel, the Foundation awards primarily capital grants, including building renovation and construction. Grants are intended to improve the lives of older adults; women, children, and youth at risk; children and adults with multiple disabilities, and the underemployed and unemployed who seek a career track.

In the following pages, the Foundation has identified selected grants that were approved and distributed in Israel throughout the past three years. In 2008, the Foundation launched the Alumni Scholars Program. This program includes an event featuring an expert speaking on the latest issues in Israel and the region. Mission Alumni also receive book mailings, an alumni directory, and invitations to reunion dinners. Nearly 600 Alumni now remain connected through this network, which has produced tangible benefits for the community at-large, including partnerships and initiatives rooted in Mission participants' shared experiences in Israel.
