Just in time for the summer. Here is a list of nearly 300 titles many of which I ‘ve listed and many which are old favourites destined to make list after list especially unit histories. The special book on the cover this month is the highly sought after and regarded ‘TASMANIA’S WAR RECORD 1914-1918’. (#215) It’s a book in remarkable condition having been published in 1921. It contains a full muster (nominal) roll (incl ranks on discharge) AND a full list of ‘district enlistments’, one of the very few histories to have this. Of the 12,907 men to have embarked from Tasmania 2,432 were KIA or DOW. Also a list of decorations (incl 11 VCs). John Burridge reprinted this book decades ago and for many years that was the only edition I ever saw. Now I have a pristine original! How good is that? After all these years I still get a buzz from finding rare titles and a bigger buzz from selling them into serious collections. There are many such books in my collection which I try to list as often as I can. Those of you who have visited the book room here in Perth are amazed at the variety of quality books we have. RESPONSE Table 20 in Budget Paper No.1 presents an estimate of net capital investment by function, on a Government Finance Statistics basis. The Government Finance Statistics reporting framework is a specialised accounting and financial reporting system designed to support economic analysis of the public sector and is consistent with international statistical standards. The net capital investment by function measures the change in the Australian Government's stock of non-financial assets, by function, due to transactions. As such, it measures the net effect of purchases, sales and consumption (for example, depreciation of fixed assets and use of inventory) of non-financial assets during an accounting period. Under the Government Finance Statistics framework, specialist military equipment is expensed on purchase and therefore not considered an asset for reporting purposes.
