Page 2 Dim Bulb Dec 2017 Presidents Column I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving celebrations. Christmas High Beemers will be here before we know it! M/C Club The month of November was a different month for me as far as going on motorcycle rides. I left for Illinois in my car and spent PO Box 3127 time with my family back home. Made it back just in time for the Sparks NV 89432 last of the corn harvest. On the return trip I went up to I-90 and visited Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Monuments. Seeing them in person, it is amazing what they have done by carving out President rocks. I was glad that I drove my car instead of riding the motor- Fred Barrie cycle because it rained the majority the time in Illinois and I drove through snow in the Wyoming area. Oh, did I mention it 775.745.1936 was 8 degrees one morning. Being I was in my car I did drive up [email protected] to visit Sturgis. Being that the majority of the buildings were black Vice President and orange I don’t know if I could have gotten into town riding on a BMW! Russ Ristine One ride I did do back in Nevada was out the new USA Parkway 775.742.5866 to Silver Springs, Fallon, Fernley, Pyramid Lake and back into [email protected] Reno. The temps were in the 50’s and made for an enjoyable Treasurer day of riding. Ernie Baragar The other ride I went on was our monthly breakfast ride. Doug lead the group to the Minden airport which has a café located 775.219.8881 next to the airport ramp. The return trip was up and back down [email protected] from Virginia City. It is a good thing we didn’t have a mileage contest for this breakfast ride. I understand that one of our rider’s HIghbeemers Website motorcycle used no gas on the return trip. Larie Trippet Our first order of hats and shirts arrived. If anyone else is inter- 775.690.4936 ested in purchasing any of these items please contact Larie Trip- Www.highbeemers.org pet. Newsletter Editor A reminder of two upcoming events, one is our annual brunch on Jim Morrow January 1st. It will be held at Mimi‘s at 10:30am. If the weather is acceptable there will also be a New Years Ride. The other event 775.501.0778 is our annual dinner at La Posada Real on January 28th 6 to 8 [email protected] PM. Reminders will be sent out regarding these two events. To finish our trip to the Northwest, we are heading up to Belling- ham, Washington, where we will watch the lighted boat parade in the harbor. Ride Safe, Fred Volume 27 Issue 12 The High Beemers M/C of Northern Nevada Chartered Club #337, BMWRA Charter #75 Page 3 Dim Bulb Dec 2017 The November 20th Breakfast Ride by Doug Laird November 20th ten of us met at the Starbuck’s (Mt. Rose Highway at Wedge Parkway) for the November Breakfast Ride. Over coffee, pilots in our group suggested that we ride to the Minden Airport and have breakfast at the Tail Dragger Café. It was a great choice as the food was fantastic. We were blessed with a warm day, temperatures in the six- ties, and although rain was predicted the forecast was wrong. Coming back to Reno we couldn’t resist a run up to Virginia City to enjoy those fun curves, both up to VC and then down to Reno. Hmmm, snow level was well below that in some ar- eas, we assure you! Here we are at the Janesville Chevron, chilly riding with ambi- ent at 32 de- grees! Heated clothes were most wel- come. About two miles up the road to Antelope Lake from here the road was ice and snow cov- ered—yee haw! Nothing like holding up 800+lbs of bike on a icy, sloped road, THEN turning it around—yes, yes, very excit- ing. Tim led us through Susanville up to Lake Almanor (shown here) which had mostly dry roads except for the spooky dark patches in the shaded canyons around giant sweepers—more excitement! Ah, probably good to consider desert rides from this date on …. Jim Morrow Volume 27 Issue 12 The High Beemers M/C of Northern Nevada Chartered Club #337, BMWRA Charter #75 Page 6 Dim Bulb Dec 2017 Impromptu Sunday Ride …. With the weather looking promising on Sunday Nov 12, Larie Trippet put out a blast email for rid- ers to enjoy the weather and RIDE! 11 bikes and 13 people showed up on that Sunday morning at Doughboys Donuts in south Re- no. After some coffee and a donut, Larie laid out his plan. Everyone was excited! From Doughboys we went up Hwy 341 to Virginia City and regrouped before descending down the truck route, Hwy 341. We turned left on Hwy 50 and proceeded to Yerington for a pit stop. Everyone was still smiling. On thru Smith and Wellington, thru Wilson Canyon to Hwy 395. We turned left to the Topaz Casi- no for lunch. Good food and good conversation was consumed. Larie’s favorite pass lay ahead….Monitor Pass. Still open despite some recent storms. The road was clear and the sun was shining!!! We regrouped in Markleeville. Although Larie’s original plan was to go up to Lake Tahoe, and down Mt Rose hwy, that turned out to be too ambitious. From Markleeville, we proceeded on Hwy 89 to Diamond Valley road, then on to Foothill, Genoa and Jack’s Valley Rd. Once in Carson City, we all pro- ceeded back to our homes, just as dusk was setting in. Participants in- cluded: Larie, Aa- ron, Jim M. with Sheri, Gary, Steve with Tracy, Steve S., Lynn, Dennis, Jim E., Steve C., Allen. Thanks to all for a great ride! September also found many club Sparks NV 89432 members returning from extended trips and others leaving on across the boarder trips. I am hopeful that these trips can be shared with the President members via the newsletter or a “show & tell” event. Fred Barrie The September Breakfast and Club rides each had a great turn out of 775.745.1936 riders. Both rides were taken under great weather conditions. A smoke respirator really wasn’t needed for these rides. Nick had to change lo- [email protected] cations for breakfast at the last minute due to the large turnout. But as Vice President always Nick had an Ace up his sleeve. The Club Ride also had great Russ Ristine weather (maybe a little windy). Riding through Sierra Valley and into 775.742.5866 the mountains was cool and the air was filled with the aroma of cut hay and sage. After passing Baxter, Gold Lake and Graeagle it was on to [email protected] Portola. There lunch was held at the Log Cabin. For now the Log Cabin Treasurer is open and it was ok, but it has been open and shut more times than Ernie Baragar the back door on the barn.

  • Excellent European Adventure
MC/EDELWEISS READER TOUR Naked8 Bikes + Readers7 each bike and suffer through some mind-numbing photo/video shoots too. After all, every few dreams you have a nightmare… Our adventure began in the once-divided city of Berlin, where we gathered from points around the globe and broke the ice with a tour of the historic BMW Motorrad factory at nearby Spandau, where two =1 of the bikes we were testing—the S1000R and RnineT—are brought to life. We were a diverse group: a custom home builder from Canada, Excellent a commodity trader from Chicago, an auto-industry insider from Thailand-by-way-of-Detroit, a Dallas doctor, and more. Some had ridden tens of thousands of miles all over the world; for others it was European their first time out of the country; one sheepishly admitted, after a particularly soggy stretch of autobahn, that he had never ridden in rain before! Most had some experience on naked bikes, and many owned Adventure naked bikes back home. All were passionate about motorcycles, and, just like every Edelweiss tour we’ve done, the group bonded quickly. “Everyone had such a good time,” Tom Bentley said, “laughing like we’ve been friends for 10 years right from the start. It would be a great experience even without the motorcycle riding.” Following the BMW factory visit, the first day’s ride was an easy, 150-mile warm-up through the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve to e hear it all the time around Dresden in the former East Germany—for everyone except the author, here: “You guys have the that is.
