Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins Sets Another Big Ten Record On Saturday, Ohio State sophomore quarterback Dwayne Haskins became the Big Ten single-season record holder for passing yards and passing touchdowns. On Monday, he added another conference mark. Haskins was named the Big Ten’s offensive player of the week for the sixth time, breaking the record of five previously set by Ohio State’s Troy Smith in 2006, the year he won the Heisman Trophy. Haskins, a Potomac (Md.) Bullis School product, picked up his latest weekly honor after throwing for 396 yards and six touchdowns in Ohio State’s 62-39 win over No. 4 Michigan. The Buckeyes improved to 11-1 overall and 8-1 in the Big Ten while securing a berth in the Big Ten championship game for the second year in a row. Against the Wolverines’ top-ranked defense, Haskins completed 20 of 31 passes without turning the ball over. Through the regular season, he has thrown for a school and conference record 4,081 yards and 42 touchdowns. Purdue’s Curtis Painter previously set the yardage mark at 3,985 in 2006 while the Boilermakers’ Drew Brees had set the touchdown record at 39 in 1998. Haskins needs just 64 yards to tie former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson’s total-offense mark at 4,272, which he set in 2010. Haskins and the Buckeyes are set to face Northwestern in the Big Ten championship on Saturday in Indianapolis. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. on FOX. Some Facts about the Heisman Trophy • Designed by sculptor Frank Eliscu in 1934, the Heisman Trivia Trophy is modeled after Ed Smith, Eliscu’s former high school classmate and star running back for the now defunct New York University football team. • Regarding the Heisman Memorial Trophy, Frank Eliscu said, "It is not my best work but it turned out to be something like the Statue of Liberty. I always thought it was wonderful that I'll be able to leave something like this behind." Eliscu continued working until he passed away from a heart attack in 1996. • The trophy is made of cast bronze, stands 13.5 inches (34.3 cm) tall and weighs 25 pounds (11.3 kg). • The first Heisman Trophy was awarded to Chicago’s Jay Berwanger in 1935. Initially, it was known then as the Down- town Athletic Club Award. Shropshire Where do I begin … When the 2019–2020 academic year started, I don’t think we had any idea how dramatically our lives would change in the months that lay ahead. Our theme year focus of Sport and the Body was leading us down our usual path of uncovering new insights and sharing what we learned with wider audiences, all with the hope of using sport to make the world a better place. As spring rolled around, we were making plans around the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, going about our normal daily routines, as we should. Designs were in motion for the relaunch of our Global Sport Matters multimedia website and we were finalizing details for the third annual Global Sport Summit, to be held in early April. We, like all of you, had to drastically shift our priorities when the COVID-19 pandemic impacted our world. In a strange twist of fate, we found ourselves uniquely positioned to respond to the crisis thanks to a number of factors working in our favor: Arizona State University Annual faculty and staff were already well versed on the Zoom video conferencing platform, which had been report implemented universitywide many months before; we had been preparing to launch several new online multimedia channels, which soon proved to be ideal 2019–2020 for reaching a global audience; and we had a diverse, tech-savvy, responsive staff eager to take on new challenges.

O’Halloran: I was also surprised since it seems like the Broncos were bidding against themselves for Flacco instead of waiting for him to get released. I highly doubt Elway believes Flacco is the key for the Broncos to be 2019 contenders. And Elway shouldn’t believe Flacco represents even a big piece toward returning to respectability. Over the last four years, Flacco is 24-27 as a starter with 64 touchdowns and 46 interceptions. He is a long way removed from his lights-out postseason in 2012 in which he led the Ravens to the Super Bowl. The Broncos need to add many more players to be playoff-good. Kiz: OK, I get it. Barrett Discusses Ohio State Quarterbacks, following the publication of Barrett’s perspective on Kenny Guiton, Braxton Miller and Cardale Jones, and most recently, Dwayne Haskins. Barrett and Martell spent just one year together after Martell enrolled at Ohio State as part of the talent-laden 2017 class, which also included J.K. Dobbins, Jeff Okudah and Chase Young. Martell took a redshirt during the 2017 season, while Barrett set Ohio State single-season records for touchdowns responsible for and passing scores (which would later be broken by Haskins). VARSITY O 2015 WINTER NEWS OHIO STATE FOOTBALL YEAR IN REVIEW Prior to suffering a season-ending injury in the regular season finale against Michigan Nov. 29, quarterback J.T. Barrett set a Big Ten record with 45 touchdowns en route to Big Ten Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year honors. He threw for 2,834 yards and rushed for another 938 for a school record 3,772 total offensive yards. In addition, defensive lineman Joey Bosa earned Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year laurels after leading the conference in sacks (13.5) and tackles-for-loss (20.0) to rank fourth and fifth nationally in those categories. A total of eight Buckeyes were named first or second team All-Big Ten selections. Joining Barrett and Bosa were cornerback Doran Grant, offensive guard Pat Elflein, defensive tackle Michael Bennett, tight end Jeff Heuerman, offensive tackle Taylor Decker and linebacker Joshua Perry.
