  • Seminoles in the Nfl Draft
137 PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME All-time Florida State gridiron greats Walter Jones and Derrick Brooks are used to making history. The longtime NFL stars added an achievement that will without a doubt move to the top of their accolade-filled biographies when they were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame inAugust, 2014. Jones and Brooks became the first pair of first-ballot Hall of Famers from the same class who attended the same college in over 40 years. The pair’s journey together started 20 years ago. Just as Brooks was wrapping up his All-America career at Florida State in 1994, Jones was joining the Seminoles out of Holmes Community College (Miss.) for the 1995 season. DERRICK BROOKS Linebacker 1991-94 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame WALTER JONES Offensive Tackle 1995-96 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame 138 PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME They never played on the same team at Florida State, but Jones distinctly remembers how excited he was to follow in the footsteps of the star linebacker whom he called the face of the Seminoles’ program. Jones and Brooks were the best at what they did for over a decade in the NFL. Brooks went to 11 Pro Bowls and never missed a game in 14 seasons (all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), while Jones became the NFL’s premier left tackle, going to nine Pro Bowls over 12 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Both retired in 2008, and, six years later, Jones and Brooks were teammates for the first time as first-ballot Hall of Famers.

  • M&T Bank Stadium
M&T BANK STADIUM - BALTIMORE RAVENS When it came to choosing an exterior coating system for the home of the Baltimore Ravens football team in 1997, the Maryland Stadium Authority wanted a proven performer with a solid record of abrasion, moisture, chemical and corrosion resistance. After considering all the options, the owners handed the ball to Tnemec. “They really liked the aesthetics of Series 530 Omnithane, a moisture-cured urethane which provides a bright metallic finish when used as a topcoat,” recalled Tnemec coating consultant Todd Guntner. “That had a lot to do with Tnemec being chosen for the project.” Another factor in the selection of Tnemec over five of its competitors was the teamwork between Guntner and Darrell Buerky, a fellow Tnemec coating consultant in Kansas City, MO. Buerky had previous experience working with the Kansas City- based architectural firm that designed the stadium, HOK Sport, and was also knowledgeable about the use of Omnithane as a topcoat. Together, the two consultants successfully demonstrated the performance advantages of their two-coat system compared to the competitive products. The Tnemec coating system was used on all exterior exposed PROJECT INFORMATION steel including structural beams, columns and joists, which were subcontracted to four different fabricators. Following commercial blast cleaning in accordance with SSPC-SP 6/NACE No. 4, the Project Location steel received a shop-applied prime coat of Series 90-97 Tneme- Baltimore, Maryland Zinc, a zinc-rich polyurethane with excellent corrosion resistance that was also used at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Project Completion Date 1997 The Omnithane topcoat was then brush- and roller-applied by the field applicator.

Annual Report 2019–2020 Sport and the Body ‘‘ The heart crosses the finish line before the body. A greguería written by Alberto Ríos Arizona’s Poet Laureate, University Professor and Director of the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing at ASU, ‘‘and a fan of sport ’’ Sport and the Body Message from Kenneth L. Shropshire Where do I begin … When the 2019–2020 academic year started, I don’t think we had any idea how dramatically our lives would change in the months that lay ahead. Our theme year focus of Sport and the Body was leading us down our usual path of uncovering new insights and sharing what we learned with wider audiences, all with the hope of using sport to make the world a better place. As spring rolled around, we were making plans around the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, going about our normal daily routines, as we should. Designs were in motion for the relaunch of our Global Sport Matters multimedia website and we were finalizing details for the third annual Global Sport Summit, to be held in early April. We, like all of you, had to drastically shift our priorities when the COVID-19 pandemic impacted our world. In a strange twist of fate, we found ourselves uniquely positioned to respond to the crisis thanks to a number of factors working in our favor: Arizona State University Annual faculty and staff were already well versed on the Zoom video conferencing platform, which had been report implemented universitywide many months before; we had been preparing to launch several new online multimedia channels, which soon proved to be ideal 2019–2020 for reaching a global audience; and we had a diverse, tech-savvy, responsive staff eager to take on new challenges.
