New York, New York October 2003 MTA New York City Transit Fulton Street Transit Center DEIS APPENDIX H: CULTURAL RESOURCES H.1 INTRODUCTION New York City Transit (NYCT) is planning to construct the Fulton Street Transit Center (FSTC) in the vicinity of Fulton Street and Broadway, covering portions of Fulton Street, Dey Street, Church Street, William Street and Broadway, with direct impacts to Block 79, Lots 15, 16, 18, 19 and 21, New York City, New York (see Figures 1 and 2). The Proposed Action includes: • Construction of a new Entry Facility building at Block 79, Lots 15, 16, 18, 19 and 21, designed to connect subway passengers with other elements of the FSTC; • Construction of a pedestrian tunnel underneath Dey Street, the Dey Street Passageway, from the Entry Facility at Broadway and to the redeveloped World Trade Center (WTC) site and RW service at the Cortlandt Street station at Church and Dey Streets; • Improvements to the Fulton Street AC underground mezzanines and JMZ entrances and mezzanines, by widening the existing facilities; • Installation of stairways at the southwest and southeast corners of the intersection of Maiden Lane and Broadway, and installation of stairway, escalator and an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) elevator at the southwest corner of Dey Street and Broadway to improve street access; • Rehabilitation of the existing 23 and 45 stations at Fulton Street; and, • Creation of a new, paid RW - E and an unpaid E to the FSTC connections along Church Street at the Chambers Street and WTC - Cortlandt Street stations. -

42nd St Synopsis One of showbusiness's most classic and beloved tales, 42nd Street tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, a talented young performer with stars in her eyes who gets her big break on Broadway. Peggy arrives in New York City from her hometown of Allentown, Pennsylvania, armed with her tap shoes, her lucky yellow scarf and big dreams. Peggy’s talent catches the eye of legendary Broadway director Julian Marsh, who gives her a spot in the chorus of Pretty Lady, his newest show. Pretty Lady stars Dorothy Brock, the classic Broadway diva, who takes an instant dislike to the new girl in the cast. When Dorothy is injured during the show’s previews, Pretty Lady looks like it will have to close, unless a new girl talented enough to lead the show can be found — someone like Peggy Sawyer! Characters Age requirements are approximate, however the dance ensemble must look young. PEGGY SAWYER A young, starry-eyed, naïve, and humble chorus girl who assumes the Lead role in Pretty Lady when Dorothy breaks her ankle. She is the triple threat in the show - must sing, act, and dance (tap) very well. Alto-mezzo soprano: should belt and be able to easily transition to head voice. Vink Program on Applied Demographics Cornell University March 24, 2011 Program on Applied Demographics Web: http://pad.human.cornell.edu Email: [email protected] About Cornell Program on Applied Demographics The Program on Applied Demographics (PAD) brings skills in demographics, economics, statistics, data gathering and data analysis together to provide a variety of organizations with data, information and advice. PAD works closely with the New York State Department of Economic Development, the U.S. Census Bureau and other organizations to assist them in their activities. 2 Summary On March 24, 2011 the U.S. Census Bureau released Census 2010 redistricting data for New York State. This data gives detailed race information for the total population and voting age population down to the block level. Future products releases will give more insight in other demographic changes. This document details some first impressions of the demographic changes in New York State in the last decade. The major conclusions: New York State gained just over 400,000 people during the decade, a growth of 2.1%. During the 90’s the State population gained 5.5%, meaning we saw a slow-down in the growth of the total population. This growth fell far behind the growth of the total U.S. population of 9.7%. With the 2.1% growth New York ranked 47 amongst all the states. New York lost two seats in the House of Representatives. The growth in the states was not evenly among counties and NY’s ten economic districts. -
