Setting up the COOLPIX S800c Instructions for Wireless Setup and Connectivity to a Phone/Tablet SEPTEMBER 22, 2020 INTERMEDIATE Setting up the COOLPIX S800c Instructions for wireless setup and connectivity to a phone/tablet The Nikon COOLPIX S800c digital camera allows you to connect directly to the Internet to share images—all without the need for a computer! Whether you have a home wireless network set up, can only access public or fee-based Wi-Fi® hotspots, or want to transfer images from the S800c to an iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch®, or an Android™ tablet or smartphone—this COOLPIX can do it all, and more. The S800c even allows for the downloading of apps, from music to productivity, to photography to social networking and more. So not only can you take photos and upload them to photo sharing sites, but, you can post to Google +™ or Facebook directly from your camera. You can also download photography apps, for creative shooting and sharing. Set up the Camera out of the Box When you first turn on the S800c, the Android OS starts up (just like a computer’s operating system would do). It then asks you if you want to set up Wi-Fi and Gmail™. The most convenient time to perform this set up is at this time. If the network you are on is password protected, have the network name and password handy. If you want to wait before setting up this functionality—and use the COOLPIX S800c as a camera, straight out of the box, you can do that too. When you see the screen asking if you’d like to set up Wi-Fi and Gmail or skip a step, simply scroll down the screen to "Want to Set Up an Account?" and select Skip. The reason the camera asks you if you want to set up a Gmail account or log into one you already have, is because the Google Play™ Store app uses your Gmail account for logging in and downloading apps. To do so, simply follow the instructions for logging in or creating a new Gmail account. After you've used the camera to take photos or video and want to set up the Wi-Fi, follow these instructions (expanded instructions can be found in the camera Owners Reference manual (can be downloaded at http://nikonimglib.com/cdsc/s800c/). Set up Wi-Fi on the COOLPIX S800c: Follow these instructions: Circled is the Home button, which will bring you to the home screen when pressed. 1. Press the Home button on the camera. 2. Touch Settings. 3. Touch Wireless & Networks. 4. Touch Wi-Fi and check the box. 5. Touch Wi-Fi Settings. 6. The SSID or name of your Wi-Fi router will appear. Touch it to select it. 7. At this time, you will be asked for the security key or password. Enter it at this time. 8. Touch Connect. You are now connected to the Internet and can browse the web, check your email, view content on YouTube™ or any of the other pre-installed apps on the COOLPIX S800c. If you’ve also created a new Gmail account, or logged in, you can also send emails, or download apps on Google Play to the camera such as Facebook or Twitter. The camera will save the Wi-Fi settings, so whenever you are within reach of your home network, it will automatically connect for you. You can also use a portable Wi-Fi router to connect to the internet. Instructions are the same as connecting to your home network. Another option for internet connectivity is to use a public wireless LAN or hot spot. These may be available for free at restaurants or other local merchants; or for a connection fee at a hotel or other venues. The instructions are the same as connecting to your home network. You simply follow additional instructions on the display screen that the internet service provider requires after making the connection. Yet another way to connect to the internet is by connecting the COOLPIX S800c to an Android smartphone or tablet, or Apple® iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, by Wi-Fi tethering. To do so, you first need to download the Connect to S800c app onto your phone or tablet. It is available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch from iTunes® and on Google Play for Android smartphones and tablets. Note that you must choose one device to "tether" to the camera. Quick connections to multiple devices are not supported. Connect your S800c to a phone or tablet Follow these instructions: 1. After downloading the Connect to S800c app onto your phone or tablet, go into the device's Wi-Fi settings and make sure that Wi-Fi is turned on. 2. Select the Connect to This is the Simple setup screen on the S800c app on the COOLPIX S800c. iPhone/iPad/iPod touch/Android smartphone/tablet. 3. Select Simple Set Up. 4. On the S800c camera, select the Upload app from the home screen. 5. Select Simple Set Up. 6. Touch Start on both the camera and the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch/Android smartphone/tablet. 7. At this point, the camera will begin to search for the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch/Android smartphone/tablet, which will also be looking for the S800c to connect to. When both have found each other, they will each display a set of numbers. 8. If the numbers on the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch/Android smartphone/tablet and the S800c match, touch OK on the camera. You will see a notice that setup is complete. 9. Now select OK on your smart device. You will see a message saying setup is complete. When connecting to an Apple® iPhone or iPad, you may see the Activate Wi-Fi and select camera SSID message. Simply go into the device’s settings, find the Wi-Fi setting and select the Nikon S800c camera's SSID (the name starts with Nikon, so it will be easy to identify). Then go back to the Connect to S800c app and press OK. You will get a message to install a profile on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, press Install to allow the profile to be installed on the device (you will be asked to enter your password). Both the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch and camera will now display a message saying Setup OK. Now that you’ve paired your COOLPIX S800c to your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch/Android smartphone/tablet, you won’t have to perform this set-up procedure again. You might be wondering what you can do with the paired COOLPIX S800c and your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch/Android smartphone/tablet? The COOLPIX S800c is a 16-megapixel digital camera, with a 10x optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens. The camera that incorporates a range of cool features such as Selective Color, High Key, Fisheye effect; Nikon's Smart Portrait System; built-in GPS and Full HD 1080p video. You can upload your high quality images from the camera’s internal memory or SD memory card to your device for further posting on the Internet or email at any time—even when no Wi-Fi signal is available. Upload images from S800c to your smart device Follow these Circled here is the Upload app on the rear instructions: display of the COOLPIX S800c. 1. Launch the Upload app on the COOLPIX S800c camera. 2. Launch the Connect to S800c app on your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch/Android smartphone/tablet. 3. On the camera, touch Start Service. 4. On the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch/Android smartphone/tablet, touch Connect to Camera. For Android smartphone or tablet device users: If you’re using an Android smartphone or tablet, you should now see images from the camera appearing as thumbnails on your phone or tablet. For iPhone/iPad/iPod touch users: After you have launched the Upload app on the COOLPIX S800c and the Connect to Camera app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you may see the Activate Wi-Fi and select camera SSID message. Simply go into the Wi-Fi settings and select the Nikon COOLPIX S800c camera's SSID from the list of Wi-Fi networks (the name starts with Nikon, so it will be easy to identify). Then go back to the Connect to S800c app and press OK. 1. While you are connected to your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch/Android smartphone/tablet, a message will display on the camera saying Connected to Smart Device and the camera’s SSID number (a string of letters and numbers that begins with Nikon) along with a spinning wheel and a button labeled End Connection. Don’t worry about the spinning wheel, it just means that you are connected to the camera, and it will keep spinning as long as the connection is sustained. 2. Select the images you want to download onto your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch/Android smartphone/tablet by touching the thumbnail. This will put a checkmark on the thumbnail. You can also choose Select All. When you are done selecting images, click the download icon (it looks like a camera and arrow). As images download, a count will be displayed. A message will appear when the download is complete. When you are done, touch End Connection.
