Orson starred on Broadway for twenty years winning a Theater World Award and a Tony nomination in the process. He is a long time member of PRT where his show SAFE AT HOME won the LA Drama Critics Award for Best Solo Show last season. He was nominated for a SAG award for his role in . His new fi lm EQUALIZER II starring Denzel Wash- ington will be seen later this year. He ap- peared over 200 times on the TONIGHT Orson Bean* SHOW, was in all seven seasons of DR. QUINN MEDICINE WOMAN and the last three seasons of DESPERATE HOUSE- WIVES. He beat Charlie Sheen with a cane on . It appears to have done Charlie no good. He has the great good fortune to be married to his ALRIGHT THEN co-star Alley Mills.

Ms. Mills, a magna-cum-laude graduate of the fi rst class of women at Yale earned an M.A. at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Although best known for her six year run as Norma Arnold on , she has starred in a dozen other series and numerous TV fi lms. On the big screen she played the lead opposite John Candy in the movie GOING BERSERK. Her fi rst professional appearance was in a Joe Papp New York Shakespeare Festival production. She then Alley Mills* embarked on a national tour as Juliet in ROMEO AND JULIET. On the west coast she has worked at the Mark Taper Forum and the American Conservatory Theater among others. She is a 20 year member of PRT. Currently she is a regular cast member of the soap THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. She lives in Venice Beach with her beloved husband Orson Bean and two cats.

Pacifi c Resident Theatre Artistic Director Marilyn Fox shared with me a line from the great Irish drama THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD by JM Synge (Marilyn directed a celebrated production of the play at PRT in 1996 - coincidentally with Orson and Alley in the cast). It came to her after seeing a run through of ALRIGHT THEN, and she felt it took on particular resonance with respect to Orson and Alley’s story. When she told it to me, it rang a bell in my heart:

“It’s miracles, and that’s the truth. Me there toiling a long while, and walking a long while, not knowing at all there was the like of you drawing nearer, like the stars of God.”

Having spent a lot of time with Orson and Alley - fi rst developing and directing Orson’s solo show SAFE AT HOME: AN EVENING WITH ORSON BEAN and now this, their beautiful new piece - Synge’s line of dialogue seems like it was written about them; born decades apart, on different paths, living lives that featured more than their share of “toiling a long while and walking a long while”, they experience the miracle of fi nding each other right when they needed to most. And are healed.

I have been enriched by being a part of presenting the “miracle” of their story for the stage - and it’s made me grateful for the little miracles of my own life. I hope you enjoy the experience.
