The Company’s forma- tion was an entrepreneurial move by the founders of Joannou & Paraskevaides Ltd., a successful construction company operating in Cyprus since 1941.The newly-formed international company grew steadily to become the dynamic organization it is today. After successfully completing its first overseas projects in North Africa in the 1960’s J&P rapidly expanded into the Gulf during the 1970’s. Over the next thirty years the Company broadened its operations throughout the world to become a global enterprise with a range of activities to meet the challenges of the industry. Today, J&P has a dynamic presence in the Middle East, Africa, the Asian Sub- continent and Europe. The core of the J&P Group’s operations is the Gulf Area and the GCC countries, with landmark projects in Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, with regional offices in Riyadh, Jeddah, Muscat, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha. During the mid-1980’s the company entered the Oil & Gas sector and has since built an impressive portfolio of successfully completed projects in Libya, Saudi Arabia and Cyprus in the upstream and downstream sectors, as well as in power generation. In the last few years Oil & Gas and Energy related works represent a significant part of J&P’s annual turnover. Anticipating industry trends, J&P broadened its scope of activities over the last decade to enter the new arena of project finance and BOT projects, with several concession contracts in Greece, Cyprus and Jordan. To mention but a few, these include, in Greece, the Rion Antirion Road Bridge over the Gulf of Corinth, one of the longest cable - stayed bridges in Europe; the Elefsina-Stav- ros-Spata Airport Express Motorway (Attiki Odos); the Olympia Odos Motorway; the Aegean Motorway. In Amman Jordan, the Queen Alia International Airport. In Cyprus, the Limassol Marina. The company is also looking to expand Geographically into evolving markets in Sub-Saharan Africa, the European Union, the Caspian Sea, the Common- wealth of Independent States and even further afield where its reputation for high quality work and a personable way of working are proving invaluable to a broad client base. 7 SINCE 1941 The Ingredients of Success The ingredients of success in any business venture are not easy to define in isolation. Business demands innovation and success in business is not possible without persis- tence and determination, without insight and intuition, without a sense of timing and pro- portion, without good public relations and without devotion to the business itself. Of these ingredients, by far the most important is the last one, the love and respect that one has towards a task, which by itself sparks off and creates all the other qualities that are es- sential for success. J&P was fortunate that it started off with a group of professionals who really loved the business of contracting and were driven by religious zeal to perform a task really well. Although established in the formidable years of the Great War, they tackled the adversi- ties and brought to the works undertaken a positive attitude which actually transformed each job into something greater by focusing on real performance rather than looks, in true accomplishments rather than appearances. These were the loyal pioneers who by constantly testing the edge and by daring to undertake any ventures in the building in- dustry have created for J&P an overall ongoing reputation of competence, effectiveness, maturity and fair minded toughness in competition. People within a company tend to pick up many of the characteristics of the management and it is no wonder that the new gen- eration of professionals within J&P are very much in the footsteps of the original pioneers, striving passionately for consistency of performance, growth within the organization and innovation in their work. Results speak better than words. J&P started with the best, learned from the best, ex- panded gradually and solidified its expertise all the time understanding more the impor- tance of training rather than hiring. Now it holds firmly one of the topmost positions on the list of international contractors which have been assessed for volume of construction work carried out in their overseas operations. But the better our results are, the greater is our cause for concern not to take solace in our success, not to become complacent and not to lose our competitive edge.     INFORMATION PAPER United Kingdom Overseas Territories - Toponymic Information United Kingdom Overseas Territories (UKOTs), also known as British Overseas Territories (BOTs), have constitutional and historical links with the United Kingdom, but do not form part of the United Kingdom itself. The Queen is the Head of State of all the UKOTs, and she is represented by a Governor or Commissioner (apart from the UK Sovereign Base Areas that are administered by MOD). Each Territory has its own Constitution, its own Government and its own local laws. The 14 territories are: Anguilla; Bermuda; British Antarctic Territory (BAT); British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT); British Virgin Islands; Cayman Islands; Falkland Islands; Gibraltar; Montserrat; Pitcairn, Henderson, Ducie and Oeno Islands; Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha; South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands; Turks and Caicos Islands; UK Sovereign Base Areas. PCGN recommend the term ‘British Overseas Territory Capital’ for the administrative centres of UKOTs. Production of mapping over the UKOTs does not take place systematically in the UK. Maps produced by the relevant territory, preferably by official bodies such as the local government or tourism authority, should be used for current geographical names. National government websites could also be used as an additional reference. Additionally, FCDO and MOD briefing maps may be used as a source for names in UKOTs. See the FCDO White Paper for more information about the UKOTs. ANGUILLA The territory, situated in the Caribbean, consists of the main island of Anguilla plus some smaller, mostly uninhabited islands. It is separated from the island of Saint Martin (split between Saint-Martin (France) and Sint Maarten (Netherlands)), 17km to the south, by the Anguilla Channel.
